  1. Interscope has turned into another Columbia for Will!!! :stars:
  2. wake up and get your head out of your butt, the album isn't going platinum Well when "Tell Me Why" blows up you'll see, well even it don't come out, it still has a better chance at going platinum in my lifetime than "Code Red" does, lol.... Nas' "Street's Disciple" recently got certified platinum after a year of release, LL's "The Definition" is probably around like 800,000 by now too, it'll probably be certified platinum once his next album comes out, I could say maybe by the summer of 2006 "Lost and Found" could be certified platinum even if nothing comes out, word of mouth sells.... btw, Turntable I found on the okayplayer board out how much Beastie Boys sold so far for their greatest hits, I didn't see Ja Rule's in the top 200 though: 157 BEASTIE BOYS SOLID GOLD HITS 22,788 62 14,061 112,902 So Frenetic you got any idea how much Rev. Run and Public Enemy sold so far? I hope they did at least 50,000, "Lost and Found" sales are like "Thriller" sales compared to them :paperbag:
  3. Max is right, Will needs to take this in his own hands now and release it through Overbrook.... :pony:
  4. Wtf I liked "Belly", it ain't the greatest movie but there was far worser films done by rappers than that one, Nas did aight in there, I think LL's "Deep Blue Sea" got a lot of high reviews, it's one of LL's most credible films, I don't think "Legend Of Bagger Vance" is one of Will's best movies but it's much better than "Wild Wild West", I don't think "Wild Wild West" flopped that badly though either, it still hit #1 in the boxoffice when it came out....
  5. Well I think "Lost and Found" could still go platinum, word of mouth'll carry it there, we gotta just keep on spreading the word, that's all, especially now on forums with them talking about top albums of the year, mention "Lost and Found", go to amazon and post reviews for it if you haven't already, it might go platinum in a year or two, lol, "Tell Me Why"ll take it there faster though, maybe another 3 months if Interscope is smart enough... btw, I think Bow Wow's hype ended, he got no hits now at the moment, nobody'll buy it for it to go platinum now, it's probably JD buying the albums, lol...
  6. Yeah people like to diss Will's stuff, he's the punching bag for the average pop rap fan of today under 30 years old, they could hate on Will all they want but the 1st rap album they ever got was probably "Big Willie Style", lol, but usually everybody that heard of Grandmaster Flash and Furious Five likes them, I actually think not many kids today even hear of them but I guess the ones that do wouldn't like it anyway, I can't picture a 50 Cent fan listening to Run-Dmc or vice versa, a lot of older fans think today's rap is crap....
  7. Bow Wow's looking pretty stupid for callin' Will a gimmick, he still ain't platinum despite all the gimmick songs he released....
  8. "Born To Reign" deserved to do good enough for him to not get dropped from Columbia, that's why we had to wait longer for "Lost and Found", Will had to shop around for a label to release it on, now I think "Willenium" should've been the highest selling album of late '99/2000, it really was the best album hip-hop at the time, I think it deserved to outsell Eminem, Nelly, and Dr. Dre, 5 years later I'm saying the same thing except I think he should be outselling Eminem , Mike Jones, and 50 Cent, instead of Eminem, Nelly, and Dre....
  9. Yeah I'd say there's about 7 good tracks on there, I'd replace "Maybe" with "Born To Reign" though personally as a good song, people hate on "Nod Ya Head" but I personally like that one better that the original "MIB" song, that song grew old on me but I still like "Nod Ya Head", I wouldn't say it's "Summertime" great but it was a good song(nothin' would be on here of course), there's like 6-8 fillers on there though that other albums didn't really have, you actually gotta skip like every other track when you play this album, I mean you cut it down to like 6-8 track album and it would've been much better, he shoulda did it like Rev. Run or waiting another year before dropping this album :kekeke: It'd been much better just to release "Black Suits Comin'" on "MIB II" soundtrack and then drop "Born To Reign" late 2002/early 2003 when he actually had more time to work on it and find a way to get Tra-Knox to not be on all the songs...
  10. Well it's that kid's opinion, I mean they probably would say that my opinion's wack too 'cause I think Kool Moe Dee kicks Jay-Z' ass in lyricism, to me the most credible albums are the ones he considered wack but a lot of kids hate ol' school rap.... I could understand if he likes Eminem's albums more than Will's 'cause Eminem fans don't like Will anyway and Will fans don't like Eminem, lol, but for him to think that Nelly's album is better than Will's is something I don't get, I mean if he loved pop rap songs like "Hot In Herre", he should love "Miami", if he hates ol' school so much he would've put one of JJFP's albums to make a bigger insult, I thought Jay-Z fans like Mos Def too, his pattern of hating is inconsistant, lol, I'm surprised he didn't put KRS-ONE 'cause Nelly fans don't like KRS-ONE, lol I was looking at some of his reviews for albums and he gave Alicia Keys' first album one star so he don't really have no credability or soul for good music: I was checking out his review for SugarHillGang's album, this is what the average kid thinks about ol' school rap probably, it's sad: Rap's Newer Dayz Are Way Better. I admit,if it wasn't for this group, there would be no rap,but it is so hard to put this group in the same category as Project Pat.I never really listened to rap until there was gangsta rap.I thought all that funk rap, such as Kid'n'Play,Kool Moe Dee,and this group, was pure comedy. This CD is lame, dull, boring, stupid, and worst of all,WACK.Not one song on here is worth bragging about, maybe Rappers Delight since it brought rap to the mainstream, but that still doesn't mean that it is any good. The lyrics are dull, the beats,oh my bad,the breakbeats are dull, and everything about this CD is beyond stupid.I only really listen to this CD,or any other funk rap CD if I want a good laugh. This is the kind of rap that you should avoid. Here are some rap CDs that are WAY better: "Nellyville" by Nelly "Layin' Da Smack Down" by Project Pat "The Blueprint" by Jay-Z "God's Favorite" by N.O.R.E. These CDs,unlike this one that I'am reviewing, are way better and have everything that the Sugarhill Gang,or any other funk rap group, lacks, such as great lyrics, fantastic beats, and all the other good stuff that funk rap seems to avoid.I hope this review was helpful to you and will let you make a better choice. And remember, lets keep it gangsta.
  11. Well Kelly Clarkson's videos get a lot of airplay, if she wasn't on MTV and VH1 so much she wouldn't sell either, VH1 actually played "Switch" more than MTV or BET did and I don't think that many people check VH1 for hip-hop, they check for people like Kelly Clarkson more, "Switch" needed to be on 106 & Park and TRL... In a perfect world Common and Will would've had 5 singles come out at the same time and brought quality hip-hop to outsell all the gimmicks ahead of them...
  12. 'Cause it's overpromoted and kids buy it, when they get older they won't even like that album anymore, it's just like when Britney Spears is in the news so much, kids're programmed to like whoever's name they hear on TV or radio all the time since they don't know any better, it's disposable pop. Will's not out there like that right now and he put quality into his music, if he milked that "something for Eminem" thing like 50 Cent did with his beef with Game record sales would go up but I think a lot of us might lose respect for Will for using beef to sell records, 50 Cent does it wrong though, he don't make good songs to hurt competition, he just runs his mouth and releases his trash pop singles, we don't wanna see Will go that low just to sell records and talk smack about Eminem in all of his interviews, he just said something in his song "Mr. Nice Guy" and left it at that, if Eminem was a real mc he would've answered back in a song but he knows that Will'd destroy him 'cause he knows that "Lost and Found' is better than anything he's done lately, he knows that talking smack about Will this time wouldn't be smart for him since his image is hurt already anyway, he probably feels a lil' ashamed that all of his fans are teenyboppers and his original fans think his albums are trash, I hope he distance himself from 50 sooner or later or just bows out.... Everyday there's a new article about 50 Cent, he always says or does something controversial, and of course his songs are played everywhere, you can't avoid him, he's the Britney Spears of pop rap.... Will got too much class to be popular right now, nobody wants to hear a clean rapper with positive messages, if he become self-centered and trashy, then he'll be popular, the media spends more time promoting gimmicks more than anything, Common could've outsold 50 if he got promoted the right way too but the controversial image sells more than the good music, for Will to sell anything is a miracle....
  13. :word: I think "Tell Me Why"'d help Mary J.'s album stay on top for a while as well and get people to pay attention to "Lost and Found" again at the same time, this should be a no-brainer but I wonder if Interscope is that smart though.... :willvspaparazzi:
  14. "Big Willie Style"-It was the perfect time for Will to make a comeback, his movies made him a household and a whole stream of fans were checking for this album, everything Will released was a huge hit, he could do no wrong at this time "Willenium"-A lil' bit more ol' school style that a lot of the younger fans who bought "Big Willie Style" weren't feelin' when they checked out this album 'cause they don't like ol' school hip-hop, plus when they found out that Will was dissin' rappers who curse they weren't feelin' that 'cause their new favorite rapper was Eminem that turned them off from Will ever since Eminem said "f*** Will Smith", the stupid teens got brainwashed into Em's gimmick, plus the downloading era had to do with it, "Freakin' It" put the nail in the coffin, maybe ol' school JJFP fans would've supported though if "So Fresh" was released instead, they resisted it 'cause they thought it was another new school commercial rap album like "Big Willie Style" based from the singles released "Born To Reign"-Will's worst album, but hey if 50 Cent, Eminem, Nelly and most rappers today like Mike Jones could sell millions with filler albums, it could've gone platinum at least if he released "How Da Beat Goes" and "Block Party" which were his best songs on an album with filler "Lost and Found"-"Switch" was a huge hit but I hardly saw the video on TV, this album sold from word of mouth basically, a lot of people actually bought this for the album not the singles, if the right singles like "Tell Me Why" and "Lost and Found" was released it would've done much better since a lot of people who bought the album like those songs and I know a lot of people would like those songs too who've resisted Will 'cause they'd see that Will is more than just a club rapper, there's a lot of downloading still, everyone's sales are down -Now the reason why people think Will's a better actor than a rapper is 'cause of the singles that record labels have chosen to release that make it look like he just does club songs, while people see him do serious roles in films, but if they bought his albums they'd see that he does serious songs too so in reality people're ignorant of Will as an mc 'cause of what Columbia has done and Interscope is doing right now, some people know, but the mainstream thought of Will being a better actor than rapper lives on based on the singles released, now if "Tell Me Why" never comes out, Will should release everything himself from now on, he needs to take more control of his career 'cause record labels are ruining his image. Hating on Will is a huge factor, let's be real, lol, kids hate him 'cause he ain't hard enough, a lot of ol' school fans think he sold out on his JJFP style and is just trying to do what other pop rappers do just to make money, these people resisted "Willenium" and "Lost and Found" though probably, they probably have 'Big Willie Style' in their collection, kids introduced to Will from 'Men In Black' and ol' school JJFP fans probably wanted to see what Will had in store and they saw it was too new school for them, as much as kids hate on 'Big Willie Style', that album got them into hip-hop, and older fans jumped off the bandwagon at the wrong time 'cause they missed out on the JJFP produced 'Willenium' with that ol' school flava they would've loved, double platinum was good but if the ol' school JJFP fans supported it more, it could've sold 5 million easily, "Lost and Found" could be doing bigger numbers than 50 Cent right now too, fans sold out on Will .... Maybe the best thing for Will to do to win over his ol' school fans again is just go back and do storytellin' songs again, ol' school fans hate on him 'cause they think he's sounding too current even though he was still spittin' dope rhymes, they put themselves in a box and don't wanna open up to today's flava, that's why LL's last album didn't do "Mama Said Knock You Out/Mr. Smith" numbers either 'cause LL was coming too current, ol' school LL fans want another "Mama Said Knock You Out/Mr. Smith", and for Will the ol' school JJFP fans want another "Homebase/He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper".....
  15. This person thinks Eminem, Jay-Z, and Nelly are real mcs and thinks Kurtis Blow, Kool Moe Dee, and Will Smith are wack??!! :stars:
  16. Well black radio plays all 50 Cent's pop rap songs, it's not like "Candy Shop" sounds harder than "Switch", black radio is more like black pop radio now, I really don't hear that many hard beats and rhymes on there anymore, "Parter Starter" would've probably been the hardest song for black radio this year but yet they refused to play it 'cause it's "Will Smith" and it was too hard for pop radio, even if Will released those songs you mentioned black radio would still refuse to play it 'cause it's him but they'll play everything by 50 Cent no matter how soft it is, it's favoritism, Will needs to go to the radio stations and kick some ass!!!! For a lot of people to buy "Lost and Found", the video and song for "Switch" needed to be in major rotation everywhere for months, come on now it was a top 10 hit in the country for months but yet MTV, BET, and black radio didn't put it in major rotation??!!!!! I should've been able to turn on Hot 97 and hear "Switch", turn on 106 & Park and see "Switch", turn on TRL and see "Switch", plus it'd be playing in between all day on those channels... If you told me that it was top 10 hit for months I wouldn't believe you 'cause it didn't do the impact a top 10 single usually does, that should've carried it to platinum, if he had another one it would've carried it to double platinum but success is limited since certain media is resistant to him, "Lost and Found" could've only sold 200,000 with that kinda crap promotion, but word of mouth carried it strong since a lot of people actually liked the album more than the single ... If media was resistant to Eminem or 50, they wouldn't sell so much, especially with garbage albums but that shows you that capitalism sells, they're winning 'cause they run the radio so they could afford to put out albums with filler and still sell crazy, the reason why Em sold so much for his greatest hits is 'cause he has a new video on TRL and his single's everywhere, Ja Rule didn't shoot a video or release a single for it so he won't sell that much for his.... Will did a lot of performances, he really didn't need to do any more, this album could've been platinum easily if the media didn't blackball him so much.... Those who don't listen to pop radio or have internet wouldn't know that Will had a single out but if it was played on black radio they'd be aware, I'm sure they would've liked it if they liked that "Candy Shop" crap.... Come on now is "Laffy Taffy" really harder than "Switch", lol?!!
  17. :stars: I'm curious to know who that person thinks is a rap legend if he disses all of them, all those mcs on that list are legends....
  18. Yeah Jamie got some skills, I'm probably gonna check that album, I guess I could've saw it coming though since he's so big in the game right now with winning an Oscar and being on Kanye's big hits... If Jimmy Iovine looks at the charts this week, hopefully he gets Will out there to shoot "Tell Me Why" with Mary J.... Will and Kel should also get Jamie on their compilation album....
  19. Damn Eminem's fans really don't wanna see him retire 'cause what'd the rap game be without his wonderful pop rap gimmicks??!! :paperbag: I think "Lost and Found" had more word of mouth more than any of those albums that came out ahead of it, basically people told each other about the album and that's how it sold, it wasn't hype like everything above it, just imagine if black radio gave "Switch" a few spins, it made 106 & Park/TRL, and they put Will on the cover on XXL, the album'd be platinum right now, pop radio even wasn't giving "Party Starter" that much spins when it came out anyway so it probably wouldn't have been that big of a hit anyway even if Will went there and performed it a lot...
  20. Take all the artists above Will off of black radio, 106& Park, and TRL, and let's see if they'd go gold... :word:
  21. Christmas is the perfect time to release an album, Jamie Foxx sold 598,000, wtf?!!! :mygod:
  22. I counted about 25 hip-hop albums ahead of Will's on the top 200 but a lot of that was stuff that came out late last year, overall it was a nice comeback for Will this year, considering how the media blackballs him, I wouldn't have expected that no matter how dope I'd thought this album was gonna be....
  23. Blige's 'Breakthrough' Bows At No. 1 Mary J. Blige December 28, 2005, 11:15 AM ET Katie Hasty, N.Y. Despite slow overall sales throughout the holiday season, the week leading up to Christmas saw a retail burst led by a trio of R&B/hip-hop artists that shifted more than 1.75 million copies to lead The Billboard 200. With sales of 727,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, Mary J. Blige's "The Breakthrough" (Geffen) emerges as the No. 1 title on The Billboard 200, followed by Jamie Foxx's "Unpredictable" (J) and the late Notorious B.I.G.'s star-filled "Duets: The Final Chapter" (Bad Boy) to fill the chart's top three slots. At 33 million units, CD sales were up by a whopping 34% from the previous week and up 2% compared to the same week a year ago. At 602 million units, sales in 2005 lag behind 2004 by 10%. Featuring guest appearances by Jay-Z, Raphael Saadiq and featuring Bono, "The Breakthrough" is Blige's 11th title to appear on The Billboard 200 and marks her the third trip to the top. The set was preceded by the single "Be Without You," which is in the top 5 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and bows at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. A musician long before scoring as an actor, Foxx's return to music moved an impressive 598,000 to debut at No. 2. The "Ray" star began stirring the musical waters earlier this year as a featured performer on Kanye West's smash hit "Gold Digger." Foxx first cracked The Billboard 200 in 1994 with his debut album "Peep This" which peaked at No. 78. A boatload of guests -- including Eminem, Jay-Z, R. Kelly and Blige -- join the Notorious B.I.G. on "Duets" in the No. 3 position on the chart based on sales of 438,000 copies. The Bad Boy release comes nearly nine years after the rap icon's death. Eminem's "Curtain Call: The Hits (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) falls 1-4 this week despite a 33% increase to 430,000. "American Idol" star Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts" drops 2-5, though sales jumped 48% to 401,000. In its 37th week on the chart, Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi" (Island Def Jam) climbs 7-6 on a 52% sales increase to 290,000 units. The 20th volume in the "NOW That's What I Call Music!" hits compilation (BMG/Zomba/EMI/UME) dips 3-7 with 283,000 (+9%), while Kenny Chesney's "The Road and the radio" (BNA) slides 5-8 with 269,000 copies (+24%). Nickelback's "All the Right Reasons" dips 6-9 on 265,000 (+38%) and Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway" falls 8-10 on 230,000 (+27%) to round out the top tier.
  24. Great news, well deserved, she's such a great talent, all hail the queen!
  25. I'd say get "Code Red" and "He's The DJ..." 1st 'cause they're the best ones but the other JJFP albums are quite solid too, welcome to the board man, you'll enjoy it here!
