  1. Yeah Jamie got some skills, I'm probably gonna check that album, I guess I could've saw it coming though since he's so big in the game right now with winning an Oscar and being on Kanye's big hits... If Jimmy Iovine looks at the charts this week, hopefully he gets Will out there to shoot "Tell Me Why" with Mary J.... Will and Kel should also get Jamie on their compilation album....
  2. Damn Eminem's fans really don't wanna see him retire 'cause what'd the rap game be without his wonderful pop rap gimmicks??!! :paperbag: I think "Lost and Found" had more word of mouth more than any of those albums that came out ahead of it, basically people told each other about the album and that's how it sold, it wasn't hype like everything above it, just imagine if black radio gave "Switch" a few spins, it made 106 & Park/TRL, and they put Will on the cover on XXL, the album'd be platinum right now, pop radio even wasn't giving "Party Starter" that much spins when it came out anyway so it probably wouldn't have been that big of a hit anyway even if Will went there and performed it a lot...
  3. Take all the artists above Will off of black radio, 106& Park, and TRL, and let's see if they'd go gold... :word:
  4. Christmas is the perfect time to release an album, Jamie Foxx sold 598,000, wtf?!!! :mygod:
  5. I counted about 25 hip-hop albums ahead of Will's on the top 200 but a lot of that was stuff that came out late last year, overall it was a nice comeback for Will this year, considering how the media blackballs him, I wouldn't have expected that no matter how dope I'd thought this album was gonna be....
  6. Blige's 'Breakthrough' Bows At No. 1 Mary J. Blige December 28, 2005, 11:15 AM ET Katie Hasty, N.Y. Despite slow overall sales throughout the holiday season, the week leading up to Christmas saw a retail burst led by a trio of R&B/hip-hop artists that shifted more than 1.75 million copies to lead The Billboard 200. With sales of 727,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, Mary J. Blige's "The Breakthrough" (Geffen) emerges as the No. 1 title on The Billboard 200, followed by Jamie Foxx's "Unpredictable" (J) and the late Notorious B.I.G.'s star-filled "Duets: The Final Chapter" (Bad Boy) to fill the chart's top three slots. At 33 million units, CD sales were up by a whopping 34% from the previous week and up 2% compared to the same week a year ago. At 602 million units, sales in 2005 lag behind 2004 by 10%. Featuring guest appearances by Jay-Z, Raphael Saadiq and featuring Bono, "The Breakthrough" is Blige's 11th title to appear on The Billboard 200 and marks her the third trip to the top. The set was preceded by the single "Be Without You," which is in the top 5 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and bows at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. A musician long before scoring as an actor, Foxx's return to music moved an impressive 598,000 to debut at No. 2. The "Ray" star began stirring the musical waters earlier this year as a featured performer on Kanye West's smash hit "Gold Digger." Foxx first cracked The Billboard 200 in 1994 with his debut album "Peep This" which peaked at No. 78. A boatload of guests -- including Eminem, Jay-Z, R. Kelly and Blige -- join the Notorious B.I.G. on "Duets" in the No. 3 position on the chart based on sales of 438,000 copies. The Bad Boy release comes nearly nine years after the rap icon's death. Eminem's "Curtain Call: The Hits (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) falls 1-4 this week despite a 33% increase to 430,000. "American Idol" star Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts" drops 2-5, though sales jumped 48% to 401,000. In its 37th week on the chart, Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi" (Island Def Jam) climbs 7-6 on a 52% sales increase to 290,000 units. The 20th volume in the "NOW That's What I Call Music!" hits compilation (BMG/Zomba/EMI/UME) dips 3-7 with 283,000 (+9%), while Kenny Chesney's "The Road and the radio" (BNA) slides 5-8 with 269,000 copies (+24%). Nickelback's "All the Right Reasons" dips 6-9 on 265,000 (+38%) and Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway" falls 8-10 on 230,000 (+27%) to round out the top tier.
  7. Great news, well deserved, she's such a great talent, all hail the queen!
  8. I'd say get "Code Red" and "He's The DJ..." 1st 'cause they're the best ones but the other JJFP albums are quite solid too, welcome to the board man, you'll enjoy it here!
  9. Yeah a lot of his beats sound the same like most commercial rappers, he needs to hire new producers but he got some flow, I wouldn't call him one of the best, but he's aight.... btw, I got this Vibe issue from a couple years ago with Luda being the cover story and he mentioned: "Ludacris believes that his art shouldn't be censored, and if ho sounds best in the rhyme, ho it will be. "Rap is all about emotion, and certain cuss words have a certain emotional effect,", he says. "Some words fit in the mix better than others. When I'm laying down a track, I see myself as another instrument, and I'm trying to come up with words that will lock into the beat."
  10. Well if it's gonna be Will's album, he better be on it!, when you reply back AJ make sure you tell them that!!!.... :willvspaparazzi: :lolsign:
  11. Yeah I remember a few years ago that the pop albums of the year used to sell 10 million copies, the music industry's really going down, remember that Beanie Siegal's album outsold Will's in the 1st week and he finished at #189, it proves that Will won the marathon and is still the king of Philly hip-hop, even with all the free publicity of being in jail couldn't help Beanie, BET actually focused on his trial more than Will's album I remember, lol
  12. Well with Will saying in that he got at least a few more laps left in him for music now and Jeff's always talking about how they wanna do another album with Will, it's obvious that we're gonna get a JJFP album sooner or later, I have a feeling it's gonna happen next year.... :yeah:
  13. Basically everyone ahead of him had a better promotion, a lot of people don't buy albums off of critical acclaim, Kanye had high ratings but let's be real if "Gold Digger" didn't blow up Kanye would've sold much less after his album came out, singles keep the hype for long term sales. "Switch" wasn't really that big when "Lost and Found" dropped either, but he was out there promoting it and everyone wanted to know what was what he had for Eminem when the album came out but the hype died quickly since black radio, TRL, and 106 & Park didn't play "Switch", only pop radio and I Tunes did, and especially once Will stopped performing, basically it was just word of mouth that sold "Lost and Found". Little Brother was probably one of the top critical acclaim artists this year but they didn' t have any hits, hit singles sell records not critical acclaim, that's why 50 Cent sold so much, hardly anybody likes the album, they just like the singles, even a lot below Will had better promotion, they all had more than one hit single, it took Common 3 singles to barely outsell Will, Will only had "Switch", "Lost and Found" was probably one of the least promoted albums this year, if it had 50 Cent promotion getting 5 singles played at once on both pop and black radio he'd been #1 easily and 50 Cent wouldn't sell anything if he had Will's promotion, no hit singles wouldn't sell anything for 50, once he stops having hits his career'll be over 'cause his albums don't have critical acclaim....For "Lost and Found" to go gold was a miracle, Rev. Run wish he could say that but even with his reality show on MTV all the time he couldn't put up those numbers, btw you notice all the rap albums on that list, that shows you that hip-hop is now hip-pop, lol....
  14. Hopefully this turns into a Black Starr type project and even better with Jazzy on the wheels it could turn into something like a Run-Dmc project!!!! :mygod:
  15. Yeah T-Bone got a great flow, he was featured on a couple of tracks on KRS-ONE's "Spirtual Minded" that was released a few years ago...
  16. There needs to be a "Lost and Found" remix with Kel Spencer on it, btw are these new artists on these songs or are they other famous artists? Obviously if FP's gonna be involved in the compilation he'll probably on some tracks no doubt, hopefully Jazzy produces some of the tracks too....
  17. My shadow dream is to be a famous mc like FP and have girls that don't speak english screaming my name :lolsign:
  18. The JJFP greatest hits obviously did better than the Will Smith greatest hits 'cause it was released around the "Big Willie Style" hype while the Will Smith greatest hits was released around the "Born To Reign" funeral, lol... Now as far as this JJFP album, if gangsta rap keeps dominating, I don't see it doing that much better than "Lost and Found" 'cause I think a lot of them original fans moved on, that's like saying Public Enemy would go double platinum again automatically if they went back to Def Jam, you need to constantly bring in new fans constantly.....
  19. This is dope news, I'm gonna look forward to it, doing stuff like this'll definately help FP's street cred in hip-hop, it's about time he works on projects like this! :yeah: btw, he must be reading all our recent posts about how we want him to be more involved with music, lol
  20. If "Party Starter" got released in the middle of July at the latest when "Switch" was at its peak I think it would've been huge, I think it'd probably would've been Will's biggest hit since "Summertime", they'd be playing that at every club, barbeque, rides, etc, "Switch" was hot but I thought it was just the start of even bigger things but people lost interest in "Lost and Found" already so we'll never know how huge it could've been.... Now I think "The Rain" could've had the success of "Just The Two Of Us", that was a universal theme, it'd really boosted "Willenium" sales unlike "Freakin' It", everyone'd feel it no matter where they're from, too bad we can't go back in time though.... Hopefully one day Will could get on some label that releaases singles at a faster pace so that way even if he don't have a lot of time to promote the album, at least the singles'll be out there already, the 3rd single could've been already released by the time he started shooting "Pursuit..." if Interscope'd give Will as much attention as 50 Cent...
  21. Well when it comes to production Will could have the greatest DJ/producer Jazzy Jeff handle that, having more beats like "So Fresh" and "Twinkle Twinkle" would really boost popularity, but I think Will should collab on other rappers' albums, that'd really keep his name out there, go on Snoop's album, Kanye's album, LL's album, Nas' album, 50's album, Luda's album, Public Enemy's album, etc, maybe having a song or 2 on his movie soundtracks wouldn't hurt either, lol....
  22. I'm making a new year's resolution to be more open minded to today's rappers..... :kekeke:
  23. I think 50's more hype than anything though, he needed every bit of it, seriously if Will had that type of hype for "Lost and Found" it would've sold 10 million and blew everyone away by far, if 50 had crap promotion like Will I bet he wouldn't even have been in the top 200, a lot of people bought "Lost and Found" off of word of mouth like a great album would be but 50 wouldn't have that word of mouth, it was just that he was on TV so much people felt obligated to buy it but next year they probably won't even listen to it anymore....
  24. Why didn't "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper" and "Homebase" fans buy "Code Red" then? A lot of them went to gangsta rap around that time, didn't they?.... A lot of people bought "Big Willie Style" and "Willenium" off of hype from Will's movies, but even a lot of them became Eminem and Dr. Dre fans and abandoned Will unfortunately, even through all that we could say that his movie career's killing him now, but it seemed to really help him then, it's the direction of the rap game that has hurt Will the most, if there were more positive rappers out there, "Lost and Found" would've done a lil' better, doing movies once in a while wouldn't be bad to continue to keep his career alive but when it's time for music, Will needs to use that time for music, not film between promotion. I don't know if Columbia would've gave Will a record deal if it wasn't for his success in movies, maybe if Jazzy was a big movie star they wouldn't shelve his album either, lol, movies opened the door for Will to come back, Will's always gonna have an audience 'cause of movies since it made him a household name. Record labels'd sign him over Rakim anyday 'cause of his movie career, without it we probably wouldn't even thinkin' about another JJFP album coming out on the scene, there'd probably be only independent albums at this point like my man KRS if Will never made it big in movies, KRS used to go platinum 15 years ago but major record labels won't sign an artist for what they did 15 years ago unfortunately, it's a buisiness and they wanna see recent results, if that were the case Vanilla Ice'd be making a comeback album for millions again, lol... Plus knowing that "Lost and Found" actually did better than "Born To Reign" and "Code Red" gives hope that we might be getting a JJFP album as the 10th album for Will, it'd be only fitting, I don't know if Interscope would allow them to call it a "Jazzy Jeff+Fresh Prince" album especially since Jazzy hasn't been popular lately, it might be called "Will Smith Featuring Jeff Townes" album or they put produced by Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince on the back of the album cover like "Willenium", they could call it whatever they want, it's all good for me as long as it's good music, lol....
  25. Well if record labels gave the great albums more promotion then those at the top wouldn't do so well, this is the highest selling albums of the year unfortunately though, it's a sad state of the music industry when the top 2 artists are 50 Cent and Eminem, I wouldn't even consider them music artists... :paperbag:
