  1. Well at least I got 1 of the 4 right, I thought "Push It" came out in '86.... I don't really like "Goin' Back To Cali" that much either, I don't think "Parents Just Don't Understand" is one of my favorite JJFP songs either, it's much better than FP's recent singles though...
  2. "Kanye's At It Again: 'If I Don't Win Album Of The Year I'm Gonna Have A Problem' Grammy nominations won't be announced till Thursday, but he's starting his campaign early. by Corey Moss Kanye West (Photo: Chrissy L. Nguyen / MTV News) SANTA MONICA, California — So what if the Grammy nominations haven't been announced? Kanye West is enraged anyway. On Monday, when West performed a special high school concert (see "College Dropout Kanye Tells High School Students Not To Follow In His Footsteps"), the rapper spouted to MTV News backstage about predictions he'd heard that his Late Registration LP would be a likely contender for Album of the Year — but wouldn't win because of West's tendency to run his mouth (particularly his comment that "George Bush doesn't care about black people"). "If I don't win Album of the Year, I'm gonna really have a problem with that," said West. "I can never talk myself out of [winning], you know why? Because I put in the work. I don't care if I jumped up and down right now on the couch like Tom Cruise. I don't care what I do, I don't care how much I stunt — you can never take away from the amount of work I put into it. So I don't wanna hear all of that politically correct stuff. You put the camera in front of me, I'm gonna tell you like this. I worked hard to get here. I put my love, I put my heart, I put my money [into Late Registration]. I'm $600,000 in the hole right now on that album and you tell me about being politically incorrect? "People love these songs," he continued. "You talk to somebody whose grandmother just died and listens to 'Roses,' and you tell me about being politically incorrect. I'm talking about history. I never got five mics [top rating] in The Source, I never got five stars from Vibe. They said it's not a classic. So 'Jesus Walks' is not a classic? 'Roses' is not a classic? 'Gold Digger' wasn't song of the year? 'Oh, but Kanye, you can't say that.' Why? Who are you? I don't know you." West mocked artists who "love everybody except themselves," calling it "cliché media training." He also made it clear he's not planning to shut up anytime soon. "I said I was the face of the Grammys last year. I'm 10 times that [this year]," West said. "Get your cameras ready. Two things: Do not let me get up on that stage and do not let me get up on that stage. Either way, we going crazy!" The Grammy nominees will be announced on Thursday, and the ceremony is scheduled for February 8 in Los Angeles. Kanye's Grammy Warning "If I don't win Album of the Year, I'm gonna really have a problem with that," he said. Last fall, West attacked the American Music Awards backstage at the event after losing Best New Artist to Gretchen Wilson. That tantrum made West a focus at the Grammys in February, where he was the leading nominee (with 10) and won three awards, including Best Rap Album for The College Dropout and Best Rap Song for "Jesus Walks" (see "Kanye Steals The Show, But Ray Dominates Grammy Winners' Circle"). In Sunday's Los Angeles Times, critic Robert Hilburn wrote that the Recording Academy, which organizes the Grammys and is considered by some to be late in recognizing new artists, could reclaim credibility this year by giving West the Album of the Year. There was no mention of West's rants. Also on Monday, West revealed the next single from Late Registration will be "Touch the Sky," which in some ways is a response to his critics. " 'Touch the Sky' is what my life is about, it's what this year's been about," he said. "To anyone that feels like something is so far away, [the song is] just the concept of actually being able to leap above the environment that you're in. All the naysayers and the haters and people say, 'You'll never make it that far, you'll never make it out of this town, we'll call you,' and all those things, and finally you get the opportunity to touch the sky. That's what this year's about, so no matter what they give to me or try to take from me, there's nothing you can take from me. We've already touched the sky. "With or without any accolades, whatever it is, the fact that people listen to this music and it's connected with people, the fact that you see fans crying in the audience — you can't tell me anything after that because there's so many places and establishments where people are out of touch," he continued. "When someone hears your song and cries, then you're in touch and that's what matters. At that point, you feel like you've touched the sky." This report is provided by MTV News"
  3. It was most likely Public Enemy's "Don't Believe The Hype", Run-DMC's "Run's House", Eric B. and Rakim's "Follow The Leader", and LL Cool J's "Going Back To Cali" if I had to guess, '88 was the greatest year in rap history so that's what makes JJFP's win significant!
  4. Yeah well if Lil' Kim says that she don't use ghostwriters anymore then maybe she don't but I think she said that Biggie used to help her on her 1st album but it was probably just on a couple of songs, I don't really like her content regardless to who writes them but that's just my opinion, I agree that Cassidy is a better mc than Kanye, he just needs content, he got a nice flow, Kanye can't flow...
  5. http://www.sohh.com/articles/article.php/8017 Wednesday - December 14, 2005 by Rebecca A. Murphy Hip-Hop clothing line LRG has enlisted Swizz Beatz and DJ Jazzy Jeff, among others, for a New York City photo shoot today (December 14) to promote the upcoming Spring '06 line. "The Color of the Season: 1st Annual Jive Turkey Jump Off" exclusive photo shoot campaign and party will also feature Kanye West protégé GLC, comedian Charlie Murphy and Hip-Hop photographer Johnny Nunez. The event will be filmed by video directors Coodie and Chike, and feature music provided by New York's DJ Elle and Sirius Satellite Radio. The campaign will be shot by high-profile photographer Kareem Black, known for his work in magazines such as GQ, Flaunt, and The Fader.
  6. Kanye's probably the closest thing to an mc for the radio listeners since the likes of Lil' Kim and 50 Cent dominate airwaves, I didn't wanna go on that rant like that, he's aight, but to put him in the same sentence as Pac is disgusting and disrespecful that's all I gotta say about that, especially since he uses criticising Bush as a crutch to sell records and get awards or else he'll cry out racist for that too, lol. There's no way he could measure up to the likes of Guru, Mad Skillz, Hieroglyphics, AZ, MF Doom, De La Soul, etc, stop listening to that emptv crap so much and open your mind for hip-hop before you call Kanye the greatest mc since Pac....
  7. If Lil' Kim don't use ghostwriters, what about this then? This is a legit article, not what somebody made up in a forum, you can't find any articles saying that Queen Latifah had ghostwriters: http://www.sohh.com/articles/article.php/7022 I guess even those like LL, Jay-Z, Will, Kanye, and Run-Dmc might get help from time to time but basically everything Lil' Kim has done has been ghostwritten, for The Source to give her new album 5 mics like Nas' "Illmatic" is a complete disgrace to hip-hop...
  8. "Lost and Found" did get some moderate respect, but I guess the only way Will's gonna sell millions again if he turns into an egotistical/foul mouth rapper like everyone in the rap game seems to be now who appeal to their fans who're also foul mouthed and egotistical, lol.
  9. Will has plenty of time to record right now, he needs to quit partying with losers like TO and 50 and get in the studio with Jeff and start recording this album! :pony:
  10. What about Wyclef? I like the messages in his lyrics even though it ain't always hip-hop, very versatile to say the least, a real artist in this industry of fakes...
  11. FP, Chuck D, Heavy D, LL, Queen Latifah, Treach, and Kel Spencer if he actually puts something out, lol
  12. "Fresh Prince was hot, the movies killed him...", maybe if "Code Red" sold 3 million maybe he wouldn't have so many blockbuster movies today... :paperbag:
  13. kanye's the best since pac?!!!!!!!  :jusmindyabizness: you must not listen to much hip-hop to say that, RhymeFest wrote his biggest hit, kanye ain't an mc either, he don't deserve to get any grammy nominations, just 'cause he's better than 50 doesn't mean he's the best of all time, big deal, i think everybody on this board is better than 50, a real mc don't complain about not winning awards...
  14. JJFP are bubblegum pioneers??!!!! :stars:
  15. What Eminem has done the last 5 years ain't mc'ing, he's an emptv rapper... Ice Cube's one of the most aggressive mcs ever but hopefully working with Lil' Jon don't turn him into a pop rap gimmick... Big Pun's aight, there's plenty I'd name before him, his lyrics are aight but his flow is the most impressive about him... btw, Lerkot what happened to your best MC poll you were doing?
  16. Bull**** Queen Latifah writes her lyrics, that's like those who say Will doesn't write his lyrics, she could rip mostly any mc in the game in a battle, male or female, she's one of the GOATs, she needs to stop doing movies and reclaim her throne as the queen of the rap game. LL Cool J wrote some rhymes for Run-DMC back in the days I believe on their 1st album, only a couple songs though, they wrote basically all their big hits... Biggie wrote Lil' Kim's lyrics when she came out and she still uses ghostwriters, no subject matter whatsoever, one of the worst ever, Will might as well do a song with 50 Cent if he's gonna do a track with her, Will probably wrote Lil' Kim's verse on "Da Butta", lol... Now am I the only one who considers KRS-ONE a great lyricist? His lyrics have stood the test of time, 13 albums deep and still going strong...
  17. You don't hear about people booing JJFP off the stage the way they boo wack performers like Eminem and 50 Cent...
  18. Will knows deep down that a lot of the fans are "lost" to forget about his music career, he wouldn't say that 'cause that'd alienate fans to not wanna see his films, at least people appreciate him for something after 20 years while many of his peers have been forgotten by today's generation, most people know Will as an actor these days but they probably won't know who Slick Rick is either, I'm talking about the generation under 30 especially. I remember back to high school and ask them if they heard "Born To Reign" they'd tell me that they didn't hear it but they did go to "MIBII" for instance, go to the movie theatre and ask peeps you sit wit watchin' his flick about his music and they won't know nothin' or think that "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" was his only song he did. A lot of them over 30 might remember Will as an mc but they don't listen to rap anymore, they'll see his movies though... Back to the point, as bad as we hate Columbia at least they allowed him to release "Just The Two Of Us" which is one of Will's most meaningful songs so if Interscope don't release "Tell Me Why" that'd be foul 'cause that song really meant a lot to him!
  19. F*** Owens, he ruined the Eagles season! :bat: Will Smith is a linebacker on the Saints now, that's what he's doing now that he ain't shooting any films or albums, he was playing last night so he couldn't attend! :kekeke:
  20. This is what KRS said about why he dissed Nelly: http://www.sohh.com/articles/article.php/3573 Anyways, you can't blame Will, Interscope, or Columbia for the reason why his movie career has overshadowed his rap career and has started the image of him being an actor who occasionally raps, more people choose to go to his movies than buy his albums, blame them if you want to, lol, it actually helped "Big Willie Style" out to have such high sales and resurrect his dead career after "Code Red" flopped badly, he'd be out of the spotlight altogether if "Bad Boys"/"Independence Day" flopped, but those fans from "Big Willie Style" abandoned him too, the ol' school JJFP fans abandon him too, Will doesn't have a loyal fanbase in rapping, they're on the Eminem/50 Cent bandwagon now but they do go to his movies and say he should quit rapping. I mean come on now if Will's worst 'Wild Wild West' film could hit #1, why couldn't Will's worst album "Born To Reign" go platinum at least, is that too much to ask? If Will had a time machine he'd probably go back and not do that movie and maybe release "Willenium" earlier than when he did and spent time to battle Eminem right then and there, coulda shoulda woulda, can't go back in time. Will does listen to the fans, millions of them want him to do another movie, while only a few like us want him to do more albums, he's trying to give the people what they want, if his albums kept doing high numbers and his movies flopped then maybe he'd do less films and more tours, simple as that, he wouldn't have directors begging for him to do films like he does now, he'll be offered less roles, only way for Will to quit acting is if people don't go to his films anymore. If his movies flopped he would be known as a rapper who does movies on the side like LL and if LL starts have #1 movies like Will does people won't look at him as a rapper anymore either...
  21. Hey Jim man Will could've released an album in '03 but it'd have to be on an independent label 'cause he didn't have no major label offer him a deal for his new album since Columbia dropped him, remember? You're complaining about how bad sales are now but how'd feel if Will'd only sell 60,000 at most if he released "Lost and Found" on Koch? LL could release albums anytime he wants 'cause he has a contract that don't expire on Def Jam but Will gets short term deals and he has to shop around for a label, he's getting older by the minute so finding a label'll be the hardest thing to do after awhile. You gotta think about it he faces criticism each time he raps since he doesn't rap that gangsta stuff, he might not be happy doing it after awhile, he don't receive that type of critcism for doing movies, he justs wants to be appreciated for what he's doing, it ain't about money, that's all. How'd feel if constantly people criticise you for what you do, would it be fun to come to work everyday and have to fight with people constantly? Think about it, label execs, rap critics, fans, etc. have all taken shots at Will every time he gets on the mic with his positive lyrics, so that might not be fun to constantly face criticism, his rap peers seem to respect him so I don't really seing anybody dissin' him from that perspective. Basically only Eminem might diss Will and he ain't going after Will now 'cause he knows that Will's friends with Snoop and 50 so I think that beef's dead, nobody takes Bow Wow seriously, so if Will starts attacking other rappers he's gonna look selfish like 50 Cent and Em by just starting controversy to sell records. Even if he dissed Eminem on that album relased on Koch it still wouldn't matter for sales, it'd be like when KRS dissed Nelly when he was on Koch, radio doesn't play him anyway so they didn't play the Nelly diss and kept playing Nelly all the time so KRS was blackballed out of the contest, the same thing would happen to Will, Eminem would still sell millions while Will'd only be selling a few thousand but hey as long as Will drops every year, you'd be happy with him selling a few thousand right? Yeah the people who talk about how Rakim could basically beat any rapper out now 'cause of what he did 10-15 years ago, not about what he's doing recently since he ain't doing anything, and they say that LL and Will are washed up when they release albums, it's like from their theory they could've stopped 10 years ago and maybe they'd be getting more props than what they've gotten recently, maybe hanging on too long might hurt them?!!! Will used to face criticism for being too soft, now he's gonna start facing criticism for being too old, lol. That's why Jay-Z might be retiring now while he's on top I guess, if he releases albums 10 years from now people'll might call him washed up like LL...
  22. LL has signed a deal to do 9 movies, he acts too btw but people don't care for his movies like they do for his albums so he finds his way back to music a lil' faster, I wish that one of Will's movies would flop so he could release albums every 2 years instead of 3 like he does now, and LL's actually only on his 11th album. "All World" is his greatest hits album, if we count JJFP's greatest hits Will's done 10, how many others who came out arond when they did have done as many as them? Is Rakim, Dr. Dre, MC Hammer, Slick Rick, Queen Latifah, Run-DMC, Monie Love, MC Lyte, Salt-N-Pepa, Big Daddy Kane, and Ice Cube on their 10th album too? Hell No, you gotta put things in perspective, Will's only one of few who haven't slowed down yet. Public Enemy released their 10th album recently, I think that counts their greatest hits album, KRS has done about 13 which might also count his greatest hits, they're in their 40s too...
  23. How about some love for the ladies? I think Queen Latifah, Lauryn Hill, Monie Love, Salt-N-Pepa and MC Lyte rank among the best lyricists, I think Jean Grae is off to a good start even though she ain't well known yet, we need more of them who got class and skill instead of all these tramps like Trina and Lil' Kim who make trashy porno raps...
  24. Nas ain't wit Jay-Z now, I think all they did was perform together at a couple of shows, I'm not quite sure if Nas'll go to Def Jam, he still got one or two more albums on his Columbia deal, maybe a greatest hits album and The Lost Tapes 2'll end the deal for him to go somewhere else, we'll see what happens. I don't care where Nas goes as long as he keeps droppin' albums for me to buy, I care about artists not labels... I heard 50 was dissin' Nas on Funkmaster Flex a couple weeks ago and was sayin' that he'd be Jay-Z' slave if he goes to Def Jam and sayin' that Nas is soft for squashing beef with somebody who slept with his baby's mama, maybe he thinks that Jay might be setting Nas up... I don't know why Jay is having 50 on Freeway's album though, that sounds wack!
  25. The thing is if Will and Em went on an all out battle, that'd really boosted "Lost and Found" sales, he might be at triple platinum right now, like somebody said on here most of those who bought "Lost and Found" when it came out was from the "Mr. Nice Guy" hype, if Will released that as a single when the album dropped it'd hit platinum the 1st month, battling really helps careers out, look at how much it kept LL and Nas relevant over the years, Will could've ended Em's career 'cause "Lost and Found" is more aggressive than anything Em's done in 5 years...
