Big Will screwed out of Hip Hop awards!
bigted replied to dkny2kx's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
I think VH1 got more street cred than BET does, they play Flava Flav's reality show, they put "Switch" in heavy rotation, they honored KRS-ONE, Sugar Hill Gang, and Public Enemy last year and they're honoring Big Daddy Kane and Salt-N-Pepa where BET bans them from even appearing on there, btw Jazzy Jeff is gonna be there I think, what's up with Will not being there? Maybe they're gonna have to wait for a year where he doesn't film to honor him, lol. -
Will is a hip-hop artist that just happens to be one of the most popular rappers ever, so you could say he's a rap king, maybe if 50, Luda, and Em cancel each other out in the voting Will might have a chance to win!
-
Yeah Michael Jackson's the king of pop but his music sure ain't bubblegum, he's just the most popular artist of all time, anything popular is consider pop and well most of it sucks now, that's nice to know that Will's still relevant in the mainstream after all these years.

Big Will screwed out of Hip Hop awards!

VH1 gave a lot of props to JJFP last year on the documentary they did on hip-hop, I'm happy to see LL get honored, I think they should honor JJFP before they honor Biggie though! -

Yeah Em's the start of the recent demise of hip-hop that's what he's famous for, while on the other hand Public Enemy is one of the few artists that're keepin' it alive like they've always have even if MTV ignores them recently but the streets got their back while the streets ignored Eminem since he sold out, hip-hop is not about MTV it's about the streets and even when hip-hop loses popularity as long as it's in the streets it'll continue on, he ain't s*** without MTV, you take away his sales and awards and you'll see he has no talent but Will's a dope artist whether he's selling 13 million or 130,000, even if Will doesn't top the box office he's clearly a legendary actor too and doesn't need an Oscar to solidify that either, he's the greatest entertainer of this generation, Will played himself in "Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air" but it wasn't like he was rapping in every episode like Em was rapping in half of "8 Mile", what a stretch?! And since Em won an Oscar before Will that proves that the media has no taste for talent, I'll say that song "Lose Yourself" is better than anything on the last 2 Em albums combined but it didn't deserve an Oscar! There was a lot of dope rap soundtrack songs that're better than "Lose Yourself" that deserved to win Oscars, Will has done a lot of great movies too that had nothing to do with rapping that deserved Oscars 'cause he's a great actor and he was nominated against Denzel and Russel Crowe so I think that's worth more merit than Eminem winning an Oscar for a song that got voted on TRL! I'll also say that PE's last 2 albums are better than Em's whole catalog with another dope album coming out on October 4th, Chuck D and Flava Flav could battle 50 and Em today and beat 'em, none of Em's albums come close to the powerful "Fear Of A Black Planet" and "It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back", f*** MTV and Eminem, in the words of PE "Don't Believe The Hype"! :stickpoke: -
Well I ain't watchin' TRL for a 30-second clip but I'll vote for it still! :stickpoke:
-
They put Luda and Memp. Bleek on there? They really know how to ruin his legacy! :therain: btw I read that revie these ain't even 2Pac's poems, it's more like peeps just throwin' their own stuff on there and try making money off of 2Pac's name, I ain't buying it, I'll buy some of the Pac albums that I don't have yet instead.
-
It's a popularity contest, Em sold 5 million albums, I'm actually surprised that they would consider nominating Will 'cause the album ain't even platinum, it must be a slow year in music altogether, usually you have to sell millions to be nominated in a pop category, I figure they'd nominate Kanye instead 'cause he's selling more so even if Will doesn't win, at least he beat out Kanye already, he'll probably complain about not being nominated enough again, lol, I'm only gonna watch the show if he's there, if he ain't there I'll probably be watchin' an NBA game instead! :pony:

THE PARTY STARTS ON TRL WEDNESDAY
bigted replied to JumpinJack AJ's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
Yeah we should just type type "Party Starter" in if it ain't on the list that way they'll be aware to put it there ASAP! -
That's awesome you got to see Jazzy Jeff perform live! :1-say-yes:
-
It's nice to hear Will get nominated, actually I'd rather have him not being nominated at all than being nominated in a pop category, he's hip-hop not pop, 50 Cent'll probably win though like Jim mentioned 'cause it's a popularity contest, pop means popularity, there's nobody more pop than 50 Cent right now! :stickpoke:

NFL Telethon Nets $5M for Katrina Relief NEW YORK - A fund-raising telethon that featured more than 30 current and former NFL players raised $5 million for the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund in about 6 1/2 hours. Monday night's telethon was part of the NFL's "Hurricane Relief Weekend" and coincided with a special "Monday Night Football" doubleheader on ABC and ESPN. Players such as John Elway, Donovan McNabb, Art Shell and Frank Gifford took turns, 12 at a time, spending between 75 minutes to 2 hours answering telephones and taking donations. "We appreciate the tremendous response of our fans and everything that our teams and players are doing to support the relief effort," NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue said. "We are going to stay at it because all of America is going to have to stay at it." NFL teams and relief organizations have raised approximately $4 million from fans at stadiums for Hurricane Katrina relief, the league said, bringing the total generated by the NFL to $21 million. The doubleheader of the New Orleans Saints against the New York Giants and the Washington Redskins versus the Dallas Cowboys was seen in an average of 14.7 million households between 9-11 p.m.

Hey chill homie, I don't think all of us might follow college football so we might not know about Lance playing at Indiana University, I don't follow it myself, thanks for clearing that up though! btw, is there a way for us to get mixtapes of the stuff that Kel Spencer and his brothers work on?! They need to promote themselves more, not even a lot of us know what they're up to.

What's up y'all, I noticed this new featured when I logged into to the forum this morning, could somebody explain what it is and how it works?
-
Like KRS-ONE mentions in "MCs Act Like They Don't Know" even white kids refer to themselves as n----s :hmm: : "What come around go around I figure Now we got white kids callin' themselves n----s When the tables turn and the crosses burn Remember you must learn"

Rock the House or The Magnificent?
bigted replied to PeaceAngel's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
I still need to get "Rock The House" to complete my JJFP collection myself! :davidblaine: -
Yeah they came down on J-Lo hard for that, maybe 'cause she has a clean Hollywood image, I mean if Will started saying the n word, the media might flip on him for that too, I don't personally use the word even though I'm black, on the most part though I think a lot of peeps in hip-hop don't use the n word as a negative thing, it's just another way of saying homie to them, like what up my n, I'm the realest n in the game, I ride with my ns, etc, I prefer to say brother or homie though, it sounds smarter.
-
I'm gonna order it from hieroglyphics.com soon, I like what I heard from the download that was posted here a couple weeks ago! :1-say-yes: btw, speaking of amazon, I just checked some reviews and noticed that only 4 people reviewed this album so far, I'm shocked that all JJFP albums have less than 20 reviews, I was shocked to see that BDP's "Criminal Minded" has only 20 reviews, and yet we see "Marshall Mathers LP" with 1000 reviews.
-
Fat Joe's puerto rican, I think Big Pun was too, they use the n word a lot probably 'cause they hang around a lot of black people.

The beep doesn't really do nothing to ruin the song, actually it's probably loud to signify the tension of the song, if it was silence it just wouldn't feel the same, basically it would be the same thing if it was unedited and he was yelling the f word, everybody knows he said the f word anyway though in the song, it ain't a mystery, that's why I think it's kinda pointless to edit songs anyway especially if there's only like one or two curses in the entire song 'cause we all sorta know all the curses they're saying in the songs like it was unedited still, I could see maybe if he was cursing in every line of the song that's inappropriate like songs that have over 100 curses in it and it sounds like" ___ this ____ suck my ___ ___ i'll ___ this ____ ___ you", when it's an edited Eminem song. But if you only curse one time like what the ___? you know what I said right? :lolsign:

R&B songwriters C. Haggins/I.Barias mention JJFP!
bigted replied to bigted's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
You made a lot of great points in there smooth b about battlin', yes today's mcs are lacking in battles and that includes Eminem at least now, his creativity is gone now, stop living off the past like I said earlier Em is washed up now so him winning a battle in 1998 does him no good now, Vanilla Ice won battles in the 80s but what good does it do him now? What's so creative sayin' "f*** you" and calling people fags most of the time anyway? 10 year olds could be more original than that. That's being biased, that'd be like Will slacking off for the last 15 years and we say "oh he was a great battle rapper in 1988 so that makes him dope now", I could see if Em was retired now and never made "Eminem Show" and "Encore" you could consider him a rapper with skills but he's hit rock bottom, Ja Rule was right though when he dissed Em's mama it's not like it's not true, lol, as long as you come in the battle with facts it's all good, you're supposed to bring truth in a battle, it wasn't a stetch to say that, Em calls his mama a crack whore too so he shouldn't expect anyone else to be nice to his mama, lol, Jay-Z' punchlines against Nas were average but he makes quite a few good songs though, I think Nas is the best battle rapper in recent years, his punchlines are witty, the best battle rappers from all-time are from the ol' school era but most of them aren't in the game now except for FP, LL, KRS, De La Soul, Beastie Boys, and Public Enemy, who are the most consistant, but a lot of the other ol' school mcs that faded away never embarassed themselves the way Em has and made better albums than Em's 1st two and they originated the way mcs rhyme today so they deserve most credit, there are a lot of dope underground cats that've been in the game longer than Em and deserve more recognition in the media but they got a lot of street cred, I wouldn't consider 2Pac was a good battle rapper either "Hit 'Em Up" is like his most annoying song, he lied about sleepin' with Faith so he had no right to say that, but he had other great qualties to make up for his lack of battle skills, he was a great songwriter and rapped with a lot of emotion, I'm not being biased against Em and biased towards Will, he just doesn't interest me that's all, what can I say his songs are trash, I'm just speakin' it how it is, I like a lot of rappers in hip-hop besides Will too, most of Em fans' don't know about KRS and PE the way a lot of JJFP fans do, their knowledge of hip-hop starts and ends with Em, a lot of them just like Em 'cause he's white, if he were black he wouldn't sell so much but it's a big deal when a white rapper has skills 'cause there ain't many, just like it was a big deal when Pun came out 'cause there weren't any puerto rican rappers before, I'd say Pun got more street cred than Em though, black mcs ain't nothin' new, it's like Em's fans don't know anything about ol' school, I think it's a nuff said on my part, peace. Here's what other people on the PE board think about Em: http://www.publicenemy.com/pb/viewtopic.ph...der=asc&start=0 -

Well if Em feels tired of his fame he should just simply retire and do other things to enjoy his life, why hang on when your heart ain't in it? I could have sympathy for him as a person but as an artist I have no sympathy for him whatsoever to go out to buy his albums 'cause he's one of the rappers that has ruined the rap game when he makes music with no substance, I think 2Pac had personal issues too but he always remained a great artist. -
Yeah I hope that I'll have an album out by 2010, I'm gonna have Tim help me with my website, that'll be 10 years since I started rapping back in 2000 I should be able to pick a good 20 songs out of 500 that I'll have written by then! :lolsign: Either that or I'll be a songwriter behind the scenes, who knows what'll happen then, hopefully it's for the better though.
