  1. Here's a few more of my favorite battle tracks, I work out to tracks like these: Run-Dmc "Sucka Mcs" UTFO "Roxanne Roxanne" Big Daddy Kane "Ain't No Half Steppin'" Eric B. and Rakim "I Ain't No Joke" LL Cool J "Mama Said Knock You Out" Dr. Dre and Snoop "F*** Wit Dre Day" KRS-ONE "Mcs Act Like They Don't Know" 2Pac "Hit 'Em Up" Nas " It Ain't Hard To Tell" Nas "Nas Is Like" JJFP "Numero Uno" Wyclef "80 Bars" Common "Doin' It" Fugees "How Many Mics?" Slick Rick "Lick The Balls" DMX "Get At Me Dog" Hieroglyphics "Oakland Blackouts" LL Cool J's "G.O.A.T." intro Will Smith "I'm Comin'"
  2. I think LL's "Jack The Ripper" is the greatest battle track ever made, "Back Where I Belong" and "Till The Break Of Dawn" are other battle tracks from LL that I love, he's the greatest battle mc no doubt, I love KRS-ONE's "The Bridge Is Over", Nas' Ether" and I think Will's "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper" and "I Wish I Made That" are great battle tracks too, he's sorta dissin' the whole industry though and not just a particular rapper but they're still great, Public Enemy's "My Uzi Weighs A Ton" has nasty punchlines too by Chuck D, "the rhyme animal". :dope:
  3. :iagree: That's the only reason why I bought it was for that song!
  4. Is that the title of his new single? :lolsign: He'll get Mase and Mobb Deep on the remix. Anyways I'm listening to De La Soul feat. Mike D and Ad Rock Of The Beastie Boys "Squat!"
  5. I saw an advertisement when I was just watching a baseball game on FOX and it shows that LL's gonna be on some new drama series coming this fall on FOX, just giving y'all the heads up on that. btw that KaySlay "Streetsweeper Vol. 2" mixtape shouldn't be that hard to find since it was released through Columbia Records, I think they even sell that at Kmart besides the major music retail places like Sam Goody, that's only one of the few good songs I like on there though, there's a lot of wack songs on there though, I liked "Vol. 1" better 'cause it had some of my favorite artists like Scarface, Busta Rhymes, Aaron Hall, Wyclef, Fat Joe, Nas, Foxy Brown, and Amerie, I didn't like the song where 50 Cent jacked "I Shot Ya" though and the Eminem freestyle was kinda corny.
  6. That's the consequence for a kid idolizing 50 Cent! :lolsign: Unfortunately though there's millions of him like that. :thatspdiddybad:
  7. It'd be surprising to see DMC release a solo album 'cause he wasn't really that involved on Run-Dmc's last album, maybe his voice is holding stronger now.
  8. http://music.yahoo.com/read/news/23032957 Hip-Hop Researcher Called in Rap Case "08/19/2005 2:30 PM, AP The violent rap lyrics that got their teenage author expelled from school are typical of a genre that emphasizes verbal jousting, not necessarily a prelude to violent action, an expert told a federal judge. Anthony Latour, 14, was expelled from the eighth grade in mid-May for the lyrics, which he wrote outside of school. The American Civil Liberties Union is trying to get him reinstated when classes begin Aug. 31 in the Riverside Beaver County School District. At a hearing Thursday, ACLU attorney Kim Watterson said Latour's words, although violent, had to be taken in context of "battle rap," a genre in which rappers try to outdo one another with "these flexing of lyrical muscles." To make her case, she called Bakari Kitwana, an author of three books on hip-hop culture. Chief U.S. District Judge Donetta Ambrose seemed appreciative. "Probably of anyone in this room, I am the least familiar with hip-hop culture," said Ambrose. The judge gave no indication on when she would rule in the case. Kitwana said rap vocabulary is misunderstood by people unfamiliar with hip-hop. Battle rap "can get pretty nasty in terms of the language," he said, but the words don't lead to violence. "It's absolutely a verbal challenge," he said. One line in Latour's song says: "So watch what you say about me, I'm everywhere son, And the word of mouth is that I'm carrying guns." School officials learned of LaTour's writings in March and contacted police. That led to criminal charges of making terroristic threats and harassment, which haven't been resolved. Latour was expelled following a May school board hearing. Anthony Sanchez, an attorney representing the district, said the district was forced to act and that Latour could have made his case at the expulsion hearing. He had not spoken at that time. Sanchez said one girl's mother said her daughter had a "mental breakdown" because of harassment and Latour's raps. The girl has since left the district. Watterson contended no one referred to in the songs felt threatened. She and others were identified in court using only pseudonyms. The school district serves about 2,000 students in three townships in northern Beaver County, about 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. Kitwana called Latour's songs "amateurish" and "standard fare" but encouraged him to continue his efforts. "It's clear to me that he's listening to the music," Kitwana said, noting that Latour's song "The Massacre" seemed to have been written around the time the album of the same name was released by rapper 50 Cent"
  9. KRS-ONE "It Ain't The Same", Happy Birthday Blastmaster KRS! :dope:
  10. That's the epitome of dumbed down rhymes right there! :nhawong:
  11. Talib Kweli and John Legend "Around My Way"
  12. Chuck D posted something in his new terrordome about wanting to start a campaign to get Rev. Run and DMC back together again on a tour, who could blame him for thinkin' that, hip-hop needs Run-DMC again, I wouldn't mind seeing JJFP touring with them myself: "RUN-DMC are hitting us up from 2 angles. REV RUN can't do no wrong and Mind On The Road is an example, DMC 'Machine Gun'is from his upcoming album. Now I’m trying to figure why couldn't somebody like DJ Hurricane fill in for Jmj? Every show would be a dedication, and the show must go on I would think. If the Wailers can go on without BOB, the WHO without MOON, Ent whistle even EWF w/o Maurice..well yall know the rest. Think about Hurricane, a member of the Hollis Crew, The Afros, Beastie Boy DJ, Davy Dmc, c’mon send me some email..lets get a campaign...PE will even open up for that....hit me." Chuck D posts his email there too: Mistachuck@rapstation.com
  13. Labels usually release greatest hits albums when you leave them or get dropped from them like AJ said, greatest hits albums are good though when you're introduced to an artist, that's how I started listening to LL, 2Pac, MC Hammer, and JJFP.
  14. "The Truth" was on KaySlay's "Streetsweeper Vol. 2" mixtape album that came out early last year, it's a hot song, a lot of peeps that bought that mixtape liked that song the most on there. btw, was this a new episode or a re-run? Did she inteview him?
  15. Will Smith ain't broke he's making $20 million a film and KRS-ONE is a millionaire 'cause he tours and makes about $5-10 dollars an album sellin' 90,000 albums on an independent label, no entertainer is broke, most of us fans are making minimum wage working 40 hours a week, we're broke, lol. Hey now even Kanye West released 4 singles on his last album and still didn't outsell 50 Cent who released the same amount on "Get Rich Or Die Tryin'", he only sold 2 million and he's a new artist, he should be selling more, Will's ol' school, going platinum is a miracle for him to make 'cause nobody from the '80s in rap does that anymore, I doubt that many people are gonna buy the Rev. Run and DMC solo albums even if Russell Simmons promotes them, Will was the last ol' school to get a platinum plaque on 'Willenium', Dr. Dre's "2001" had success then too but nobody's done it since, not even LL unless he means his worldwide sales when he talks about going platinum 11 times in a row, lol. Keep in mind too that some members of the media gave "Lost and Found" bad reviews too as you could see by the unadulterated hatemeter, lol, I think the Source only gave "Lost and Found" 3 mics too, which is a disgrace since it's Will's best solo album.
  16. I remember reading somebody posting on another board about seeing DMC perform on Live 8, I asked him for details and he never replied back, lol. Speaking of Run-Dmc, I saw Rev. Run's video "Mind On The Road" premiered on 106 & Park on Monday, Russell Simmons was there to help premiere it, I think they should release it as a double album like Outkast did with their solo discs.
  17. Great idea Tim, I'm gonna play some of those games, this gives me more reasons to come to the board! :dope:
  18. Well Frenetic, that's what I was sayin', on Will's next album he should just have Jazzy Jeff produce for him, no more tracks with Trackmasters or Freshmen! Will doesn't have to produce, he's known as a legendary storyteller through his lyricism, Rakim and KRS-ONE have produced some of their biggest classics though as well as being legendary lyricists, that's why they're the only ones I could consider ranking above Will, since they produced tracks like 'South Bronx' and 'I Know You Got Soul'. btw, Bad production doesn't mean the lyrics are bad, people just seem to listen to songs just for production and don't pay attention to lyricism these days, that's why people rank Jay-Z above Nas 'cause he gets more big name producers than Nas does but Nas is a better lyricist, Will had some slick lyrics in "Will 2K" and "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" even though they ain't his best tracks, mostly 'cause of poor production bringin' it down, it was sorta like 8/10 for his lyrics and 4/10 for production on those songs. Kanye's an average lyricist most of the time, he isn't no Rakim or even Aceyalone when it comes to lyrics. Take for example my rating of "Diamonds", I give the song 9/10 for production but a 5/10 for lyrics 'cause Kanye seemed to go off-topic in the verses, on the remix he was 9/10 with his lyrics, he sounded more focused there, the beat's ill though, I can't front, I'd be an idiot not to say that, the only way for Kanye to be a legend is if more rappers follow in his lead and bring positive lyrics to the game, I gotta give him props for effort to do so and giving props to Slick Rick and Will Smith but he isn't the greatest lyricist, he could be one of the greatest producers though, btw you can't diss the production on "Willenium" since Jazzy was involved on most of the tracks, "So Fresh", "Potnas", and "The Rain" are some of the best produced tracks I've ever heard.
  19. Well some of Will's beats suck too only 'cause they're not all produced by Jazzy Jeff, he doesn't need anyone else he should just have the LEGENDARY Jazzy Jeff: the GREATEST producer of all-time produce it all for him! Will makes it up though by spitting great lyrics. Kanye's a great producer but he isn't Jazzy Jeff or Dr. Dre, don't get confused, and there are a lot of mcs that could outspit him right now at this moment, but then again not many on mainstream since hip-hop skills doesn't sell much now. He might've been producing back in '97 but nobody heard of him then, 50 Cent was rapping then too but he wasn't known either as the underground king yet. I'd rather see the kids influenced by Kanye West in the next generation but right now I see more influenced by 50 Cent, there's as much sex, drugs, and violence out now as there was before "Jesus Walks" came out, which means hip-hop might die out 30 years from now, if people forget about the history and say 50 Cent is the pioneer of rap. :nhawong: One positive thing I could say about Kanye even though he isn't the best in my eyes is that he's keepin' hip-hop culture alive on a mainstream level, not many rappers are, he most likely appeals to a mature fanbase and not many teeny boppers who like G Unit.
  20. It seems like mostly everybody that posts over on the okayplayer board is a Kanye West fan but when they had a voting for the 25 greatest hip-hop albums of all-time, only like 2 people mentioned Kanye West's "College Dropout", I was the only one to mention "Code Red" and "He's The DJ...", but their ain't as many Will Smith fans posting there like there are Kanye West fans, even his fans are realistic about that album, there's only a handful of peeps that you could consider a legend and Nas is sorta questionable himself to me and he's been in the game for 10 years, he's one of my favorites too, but when I think of legend I think of Run-Dmc, Kurtis Blow, Sugar Hill Gang, Slick Rick, JJFP, Rakim, LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, 2Pac, Public Enemy, NWA, and KRS-ONE 'cause basically every great rapper comin' along follows what they've done and no matter what they do now their legacy is set already, they transcended the game and a step above everybody else, and as far as mc'ing and producing Kanye might be ranked with Dr. Dre as a phenominal producer and an average lyricist, honestly though hip-hop is gonna have to be like 50-60 years old before we could really see who's made the most influence, like KRS once said: "50 years down the line you could start this/'cause then we'll be the ol' school artists", let's slow down the legend talk and just enjoy the music.
  21. I found this article, I was wondering if anyone heard about DMC releasing singles, I didn't even know that his album was scheduled to come out, I thought Rev. Run's was coming out 1st. "Prime Multimedia To Release First Two Singles in July FALL RIVER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 7, 2005--RomenMpire Records, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Prime Multimedia Inc., is pleased to announce that it will be releasing the first two singles off of DMC's much anticipated solo album this month. In July, DMC will release two singles ("Machine Gun" and "Watchtower") from his much-anticipated solo album Checks, Thugs and Rock 'n Roll on RomenMpire Records/Rags 2 Riches Records to be distributed domestically by WEA later this year. The album features: Sarah McLachlan, Run, Doug E. Fresh, Gary Dourdan of CSI (!?), Romeo Antonio, Kid Rock, Fieldy (Korn), DJ Lethal, Ms. Jade, Sonny Black and Napoleon (Outlawz). The forthcoming album pays homage to the musical influences of DMC's youth, offering a tribute to the likes of Bob Dylan, Harry Chapin and Jimi Hendrix. DMC performed his first single "Machine Gun" from his forthcoming solo album as well as a smashing remake of Dylan's classic "Watchtower" at Live 8 in Canada. DMC was joined by Aerosmith's Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton and the Car's Elliot Easton and Josh Todd of Buckcherry to perform "Walk this Way," the seminal rock anthem credited with breaking down the cultural barriers between rock and hip-hop and paving the way for artists such as Kid Rock, Korn, Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park. 22. Like I was saying last night in that other post it's already havin' more success than "Freakin' It" had even without the video. :lolsign:
