  1. "Code Red" is no doubt a classic album, I was just sayin' when the media usually talk about JJFP's career they won't say that "Code Red"'s their best album, they'd most likely mention "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper" and "Homebase" 'cause they were the albums that they were most known for and featured their timeless hits "Summertime", "Brand New Funk", and "Parents Just Don't Understand", for that reason "Code Red" is an underrated classic just like "Willenium" 'cause they weren't the highest sellin' albums at the time and they didn't get any awards, a lot of classic albums get overlooked by many great artists if they ain't the highest sellin' artist and that's ignorant, they should talk about content, not sales, a lot underground albums get overlooked too, "Code Red" is right up there with "The Chronic" and any of the high sellin' albums that time, it's surprisin' that it only sold 200,000 with 5 singles, that's what makes it even more amazing that "Lost and Found" sold 600,000 with only "Switch", it's hard to compare albums 'cause Will's had so many classics but "He's The DJ..." is in a league of its own since it shows all of JJFP's original style, they gotta do another album together, just them, no featured rappers or producers in order to top that one.
  2. On a related note, here's somebody on amazon showin' love to JJFP's "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper" and "Homebase" on his all-time album list, this guy got good taste on the mostpart I'd say! :1-say-yes: : http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/listm...8735170-5881508
  3. Well back in the days gangsta rap actually had a message to it but now it's just ignorance and there's no variety anymore, I think that's what that guy's referring to, everybody's rapping about cars, hoes, and guns now on the most part except for a few, back then it was cool whether you were making a party rap album, a conscious rap album, or a gangsta rap album but now if you make a party rap album or a conscious rap album you're called soft 'cause everybody's supposed to be a hard gangsta, to me gangsta rap is wack now 'cause they ain't really putting no messages in it anymore.
  4. I'd say '96 was the 1st year I started listening to hip-hop, I was 11-years old at the time, I used to listen to only r&b before that, the 1st ever album I got was LL Cool J's "All World" on cassette and my favorite songs that year were Nas' "If I Ruled The World" with Lauryn Hill and Fugees "Ready Or Not", I starting watching "Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air" back in '95 and didn't know Will was a rapper until "Just Crusin'" came out in '97 and I got the "Men In Black" soundtrack. :lolsign:
  5. Well that's 'cause it's mixtapes, you could jack beats on mixtapes without paying for them 'cause they don't have credits, just the tracklisting like ol' school albums do, but if you're releasing an album u gotta pay the record company for permission to use that beat and put it in the credits, it's been like that since all the older artists started complaining about rappers stealing their beats without permission in the late '80s/early '90s, it's stupid but it's good in a way for those who originally made those beats to get credit.
  6. Happy B-Day Jim! :jazzy: :1-say-yes:
  7. They might've pushed "Rebirth Of A Nation" back because of sample clearance, that's what some peeps over on Public Enemy's board were saying, remember it took a while for the "Spiderman Theme" to be cleared too for "Here He Comes"? Publishing laws are a bitch, that's why we can't play our songs that have copyrighted beats in our podcasts. :lolsign:
  8. A lot of awesome songs on this list! :kool:
  9. They probably only released it again 'cause it sold a lot when it came out, including 1.7 million in the 1st week, but selling 600,000 in 4 months won't be enough for them to re-release "Lost and Found" with bonus features.
  10. :lolsign: :lolsign: :lolsign: That was the funniest thread ever!!!! And wow, I've never seen BigTed so mad. ← I don't appreciate being called a fag just 'cause I like Will, I won't call you a fag and I'd respect your tastes if you could respect my tastes by not calling me a fag 'cause of who I listen to, like Will says if you ain't got nothin' nice to say, don't say nothin'.
  11. Hey I posted my "Lost and Found" review there! :kool: http://blog.jazzyjefffreshprince.com/?p=7
  12. "Code Red" couldn't possibly be the greatest hip-hop album of all time even if "From Da South" was released as the 1st single instead of "Boom! Shake The Room", I don't get how Will could say "Boom! Shake The Room" was his worse song, I mean "Switch" is even worse, that track was the worst on the album which tells you how strong this album is, but it's better than a few other songs on "Lost and Found" too, and a lot of the singles Will has released in recent years, I still think "He's The DJ..." is the greatest for Will 'cause that's what people will remember him by, "Code Red" only sold 200,000 copies, it didn't impact that much, "The Chronic" was dominating then.
  13. "Code Red" wasn't really that popular so I don't think many pop rap fans would really roll with it too much, it's more appealing to the hip-hop fanbase, "He's The DJ..." reaches credability with everybody, pop fans and hip-hop fans, whether you were listening to New Kids On The Block or Public Enemy, you were feelin' "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper", that album reached all fans.
  14. I think the Knicks'll give the Nets some comp in the Atlantic division 'cause they got Larry Brown at head coach so I bet more players'll wanna sign there now this offseason.
  15. "Code Red" is a classic for all those reasons in the early '90s, that should be ranked up there with "Illmatic", "Chronic", and "Return Of Da Boom Bap" but I think "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper" is the best one, there's no doubt that JJFP deserved the 1st rap grammy, that album's solid from beginning 'til end, classic FP storytellin', Ready Rock C beatboxing, and Jazzy on the wheels, this album blew JJFP's career up, it gets no better than that, classic hip-hop, it might need to be remastered now but so does "It Takes A Nation Of Millions..." and "Raising Hell" which were other landmark albums from that era.
  16. I see there's another post there dissin' KRS-ONE too, it seems like a lot of them like commercial rap, it doesn't even seem like an underground forum anymore, it seems like there's only 10 year olds posting corny stuff like they got no life, I just like going to the site for news on underground mcs.
  17. Hey I got ur back, I post there once in a while, there's been a lot of idiots there lately!
  18. Queen Latifah feat. Treach, Heavy D, and KRS-ONE "Rough...", I finally got "Black Reign" today, classic album! :1-say-yes:
  19. We should make suggestions for peeps to buy other JJFP/Will albums too, a lot of haters don't even give any Will's albums a listen when they write him off just 'cause they think "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" and "Switch" are corny, I'd like to see "Code Red" go platinum during my lifetime too! :lolsign:
  20. Well his movies are more popular than his music now, it's like if you ain't high on the charts the media don't talk about you, if "Lost and Found" was in the top 10 right now I bet they would've talked about "Party Starter" longer last night, that's why most of the public might not talk about Will as an mc and they talk about 50 Cent all day, but if they don't even talk about him, they sure the hell won't acknowledge any other ol' school rapper out there still 'cause he's the most popular one from that era except for LL but "Lost and Found" has basically outsold "The Definition" already, well at least Will gets acknowledged for somethin' and I think his popularity in music would be even less now if it wasn't for his movie career since he wouldn't be on the "Today Show" or "Access Hollywood", it seems like movie fanbases are more loyal than music fanbases too, I mean if 'Wild Wild West' could be #1, why couldn't "Born To Reign" have gone to #1? The quality in his music I'd say is as strong as the quality in his movies, but since the movies are more popular than the music people automatically say his movies are better than his music which is just as ignorant as saying Ja Rule is better than KRS-ONE since he sells more than him and Eminem is a rap god since he's the highest selling now, there's a lot of crap movies that go #1 too and a lot of good movies that flop, I ain't talkin' about Will's though, I wish one of his movies would flop though just so they could focus more on his music like they do with LL since most of movies flop, lol, I think LL's acting skills are underappreciated but I guess you can't win them all.
  21. It might take another year or so for it to go platinum at this rate, it's gonna be hard for sales to triple even if "Party Starter" becomes a huge hit but at least it could stay on the charts, maybe if it's on the charts a year from now, it'll be platinum.
