  1. Come on y'all, let's be realistic, Will ain't gonna outsell 50 cent no matter what he releases, people don't respect ol' school rappers anymore, they spit on LL and say Biggie's a better mc than he ever was, nobody pays attention to the knowledge KRS-ONE drops, they say Jay-Z' a better mc than Big Daddy Kane, and they think Eminem's the greatest lyricist to touch the mic, etc., there's no respect for the hip-hop pioneers, the whole industry's messed up, f*** Billboard and the ignorant fools that get brainwashed by it, real hip-hop will live forever beyond what they say or do, these teeny boppers think hip-hop is nothin' deeper than guns and crack and anybody that has somethin' positive to say is called corny, I'm just happy that Will's still recording, I could care less what he sells, even if he decides to just release mixtapes independently with Jazzy Jeff, he don't need money from these major labels, he's rich as hell already 'cause he's had more success than these wack rappers put together, he don't need Kay Slay either 'cause Jazzy got his back, "Lost and Found" will be a classic and it doesn't need a platinum plaque to confirm it as one, like KRS said "there's life after platinum" 'cause the real fans know what's up, I wouldn't have minded if he decided to release "I Wish I Made That" instead of "Switch" and only sold 100,000 'cause sending out a message is stronger than having a hit!
  2. Speaking of Nas, whatever happened to that "UBR" video where he was gonna pay homage to the 18th Letter? I was hoping that would've hit #1 so the kids could learn who Rakim is, Columbia musta dropped the ball on that idea. :hmm:
  3. Nas "Heaven", tracks like this is why I feel "God's Son" is a classic album, you don't hear many rappers spit knowledge like this!
  4. Thanks for the feedback fuq, if I record this song I'd sample LL's voice as the hook, that was a quote from "Rock The Bells"(You're a wannabe when will you learn?/wannabe like cool j gotta wait ya turn!)
  5. Did that Jazzy Jeff remix to "I Wish I Made That/Swagga" ever get released yet? That'd create a hell of a buzz if they put that on a mixtape, they should put some of the unreleased songs from "Lost and Found" on a mixtape too, especially the ones produced by Jazzy Jeff, Kanye West, and Timbaland, I'd love to hear those! :1-say-yes: Well Will spending so much time making movies and taking care of his family takes away from him doing mixtapes, I wish that he'd take a lot more time off from movies and just focus on his music.
  6. :yeahthat: Frenetic hit it on the nail there but "Big Willie Style" also had a big time gap between singles, "Men In Black" came out in the summer of '97, "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" came out in the winter of '97, "Just The Two Of Us" came out in the summer of '98, and "Miami" came out in the winter of '98 but that was before the downloading era, if this album was released 8 years ago it'd be double platinum by now here in the US, nobody really sells that much now, back then you had 2Pac, Biggie, and Will sellin' close to 10 million, Fugees sold around 7 million, and a bunch of other multi-platinum albums, this year the highest selling album is 50 Cent's at 4 million, I don't count Eminem's album since it came out last year, but that'd be only the 5th highest album back in '96, '97, or '98, right now everything other than G Unit and Eminem is gold or worse.
  7. What's up y'all, here's a song I wrote a few weeks ago: ”Wannabe” Written By Big Ted Chorus: You're a wannabe, when will you learn(LL Cool J)*Scratched Verse One: Yeah critics have their minds into talk I can hear them already sayin' that I lost Before the 1st game began you put rumors of me moving soft See as a creator, a new lesson is in the bowl like broth Now or later this game will come around a new path to walk I like to do my moves silent You always mention how you're so violent But then you turn around to expire a bit While I burn the ground through writing a hit I'm underground but I'm still not limited I keep an eye out for what you're doin' Even though I don't go around mimmicking it I take times out to look at the scripture to win You look at my pad and could never picture this Written by your average human being I put in words of truth not a made up image This isn't a comic book And I plot to look On the opposite spot for the goods You won't see me havin' Nikes on my foot But I see you owning plenty, how could you be 'hood? Walkin' down the street at night sportin' them'll get you shook I'm smarter than you when it comes to that look I'm fashionless so I'll manage to win I'm hip-hop without wearing name brand clothing You say that you're gangsta but then you can't even stomach a horror flick at the mall You talkin' like you have it all You copy all your rappin' from 2Pac and Biggie Smalls No different than the rest of them I'm truly one of the few creative heads left You think I'm takin' a dismissal When I let you go on the air about pistols But now I'm back again and now this is the issue I'll challenge you to a duel But you won't show, why don't you go home? And let a real mc spark the microphone You just started rhymin', but I've been doing this since I was 15 years old I don't get how you could get signed Doin' these soft tissue rhymes The girl that you're wit is one of those sluts that'll give it easily to any guy So you'll be contracting HIV that'll end your life You think you're so slick that all your problems will slide Makin' up your fantasy rhymes I keep my tales on the reality side As an mc you fail 'cause you freeze durin' crunch time One of those wannabes I used to eat durin' lunch time That I used to battle in high school using supreme punch lines You thought that I was just jokin but now you could see the tough style It wasn't a front, I don't have to say I got a gun To win and I don't have to have a blunt When I'm already high off of having fun I don't have to say things I don't mean I don't have to have bling-bling even when I have luxury It's not an essential As long as I'm still plottin' like a rebel To knock out the devil Then I think I got on a higher level Like my man Kris Parker You didn't think I could jam this harder I'm more clutch with my slams than Vince Carter Controllin' end zones like Cris Carter I don't have to live a “hard knock life” like Sean Carter And I don't plan on puttin' down my microphone just 'cause I'm smarter It's the end for your hard headed role Someone's comin' to take your part, you gotta go,when you only act like you're a street rapper[Repeat Chorus] Verse Two: Real gangstas don't boast They'll just blaze ya full of gun smoke I see you son, braggin' about smokin' dro But what happens when you get throat cancer, how will you flow? See I could sound like the others on the radio And make a million and hump any girl I want on the road But what good would that be for our boys and girls to grow? They'll imitate that, then another generation's crashed So I'd rather pave a path I see the intellectual thoughts that KRS-ONE and Chuck D have expressed Their music is like a class full of knowledge and I wanna help build on that You wonder why I write so many songs so fast? I think about life and how I could improve spiritually beyond cash At the same time earn enough so I don't have to beg Like you do 'cause what you say, the promises you break The false move you do, for a clump of cake I listen to what all you politicans say And I have some subjects for you to discuss on your debate Why don't you stop criticizing entertainment 'Cause I see you're also in the limelight entertaining I don't feel enlightened over what you're saying That's why I study the bible, 'cause that's the only way I'll make it [Repeat Chorus] Verse Three: In my life it's a constant battle between tryin' to be rich and righteous Sometimes like Nas I want money to be my bitch But then I want to bring to life what I'm expressin' 'Cause we all go through the cycle To makin' moves earnin' piles of doe Then havin' most of it sniffed up our nose So much money to go around The children are dyin' while me and this dime and going down Who wasn't around me when my moments were down See I'm now like the rest of them Wannabe ranked among the best of them Now she wants to sex me up in the Benz Is that the life that I really want to live? Is it worth to wannabe like them? To get burned out and people'll be askin' “Where is he now?” Hell no, I'm staying underground forever When I'm gone you'll see that what I write down is like a letter I'm leavin' it beyond so the youngeons could find how if could be better The counterfeits who went platinum during my lifetime will get questioned When I live and died the words of my poems Throughout eternity the world will be bumping my spirit Longer 'cause I ain't doing this for lust I play the game the truest for love See I didn't plan to just lay around all day wasting time to just f*** sluts I did my work and went home and chilled reading scriptures Then came up to complete the mission through deep words See go ahead and be a wannabe for 5 years and get kicked to the curb Sooner or later it'll be my turn In my afterlife I'll return Y'all wannabes are gonna get hurt [Repeat Chorus Till End]
  8. FP needs to jump on some mixtapes in the meantime before "Party Starter" comes out, it's gonna come out eventually 'cause Will said they shot the video already, but being on mixtapes might help peeps keep interest in buying "Lost and Found", he should do some songs with Kel Spencer too so peeps could get interest in Kel Spencer too.
  9. I was talking about recent history, there might've been somebody that went platinum or double platinum off of one single, but in no way in hell you could go 11 times platinum on one single, that ain't possible, maybe "Thriller" might've sold that much with just "Thriller", then went on to sell 30 million when more singles were released, I think Vanilla Ice probably released a few singles off that album.
  10. 11. Pete Rock and CL Smooth "Lots Of Lovin'", this song never gets old! :kool:
  12. Like y'all say FP's not a one-dimensional mc, he could make great songs about any topic it seems, whether it's serious or fun, and that's what seperates him from other mcs, that's why ol' school and new school mcs respect him and he also reaches people who normally don't listen to hip-hop, only great mcs could do that, his music has that universal appeal, he brings something for everyone to enjoy, not many do that as effective as he does, as long as he keeps doing his thing, I'll be happy with that.
  13. http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/news/05-07/01.shtml#run Run-D.M.C. Reissues Due in September David Nadelle reports: The music industry have been overly kind to many artists by re-releasing/packaging albums that arguably should have languished eternally in rest-stop cassette bargain bins. Everyone should rejoice when a "lost classic" gets unearthed and released, or when a essential album reissue adds a bunch of mixes, demos and unreleased gems, or when the Fall's entire Peel Session output gets a 6xCD box treatment (well, maybe only hardcore Fall fans will triumph that one). However, it's tough to stomach the unnecessary and ridiculous. Is it only time before consumers will be able to snap up the "platinum edition" of "Songs Inspired by the Dream Sequences from 'Sweet Valley High'" or the entire remastered Frozen Ghost catalogue, with bonus radio edits, A&R exec commentary, a fold-out board game, collectable hologram pogs, a sports bra, and housed in a deluxe box featuring a "real cascading waterfall" (it could happen!)? Bah, who needs it? Finally, and appropriate for such a far-reaching and barrier breaking band, parts of Run-D.M.C.'s brash back catalogue will start to get the once-over it deserves. Billboard reports that the corporate triptych of Arista, Profile, and Legacy will be issuing expanded CD versions of King of Rock, Raising Hell and Tougher Than Leather on September 5. All new versions will feature rare and unreleased tracks. Additionally, praise and plaudits will be provided by Public Enemy's Chuck D, who has penned the liner notes which, incidentally, can already be viewed on PE's official website. As far as extras go, the refurbished CD of King of Rock (1985) will include the original version of the Beastie Boys-covered "Slow and Low", an unreleased long version of "Jam-Master Jammin'", the B-side "Together Forever", and a Live Aid version of "King of Rock". 1986's mainstream breakthrough Raising Hell adds an a cappella version of "My Adidas", the original "Walk This Way" demo, "Lord of Lyrics", and two radio spots, a "Raising Hell" tour promo and a commercial for "Live at the Apollo". Lastly, Tougher Than Leather (1988) will be enhanced with some goodies on it's CD as well, including an instrumental version of "Beats to the Rhyme", a demo of "How'd Ya Do it Dee", the unreleased track "Crack", the hometown yule tidings of "Christmas in Hollis", and an April 1987 commercial for Penthouse magazine. And finally, reality TV hounds and fanatics alike will be thrilled to know that the D.M.C.'s Reverend Run is making his way to MTV quite soon with his show "Run's House". You be illin'? * Run-D.M.C. 14. What you said is right, but do you think that majority of the people would give a damn about the messages even if the singles got released? I'm sure it would be forgotten once some other artist brings out a raunchy video with high sexual content. That's how sad the music industry is today. ← :word: That's true unfortunately, Nas' single "Just Another Moment" with Quan fell off the charts really fast, it's not a guarantee that they would be big hits like everyone says they are gonna be, even Kanye's single ain't doing well, only dumbed down singles sell now on the most part, the people that buy "Lost and Found" will appreciate the work longer than those who buy the disposable music that'll be forgotten fast.
  15. Well if he sells around 700,000 with just "Switch", that's more than what LL and Nas sold and probably what Common will have with multiple hit singles off their albums , and that's impressive, not as impressive as going multi-platinum, but impressive enough, but as long as there's a JJFP tour and he does more albums then I'll be content with this.
  16. If "Parter Starter" doesn't come out soon, Interscope'll be dropping the ball on the opportunity to go at least platinum and most importantly the masses won't be able to hear the great messages of "Party Starter" and "Tell Me Why", which would be even more dissapointing 'cause this album needs to get the recognition that a classic album should get, if it was gonna be like this, Will might as well stayed on Columbia, I have confidance it'll come out soon though, now if it doesn't come out by September, then things might not look good.
  17. I heard they're supposed to be performing in Philly sometime this week with KRS-ONE, Melle Mel, and Rob Base, hosted by Monie Love and MC Lyte, it's supposed to be a hip-hop legends show, somebody posted something about this in another hip-hop forum about checking ticketmaster in if interested, that's a heads up for anyone that lives on the east coast, if I had the time and money I'd go!
  18. Well r&b and hip-hop artists collab so much and the music sounds similiar so I wouldn't say it's that much of a difference to compare some r&b artists to hip-hop artists sometimes, it's not that far off as comparing country to rap.
  19. Hell yeah, I love Naughty By Nature, they're one of the greatest groups of all time, they are iicons from 'Jersey that deserve more due, I think their last album "iicons" is one of the best albums of this decade so far, it's a shame they only released one single from that one 'cause it deserved to go platinum, it had so many great songs on it, "Swing Swang" would've been a bigger club banger that summer than that song with 3LW which was a good song still, I think "Family Tree" should've also been released, that's one of the deepest songs I ever heard.
  20. LL Cool J "Can't Think" "The whole world evolves around sex and cash The black man's motto, kiss my ass!", powerful message there
  21. I think if you go on any board you'd get that answer it's not biased, Mase is nowhere near Will's level, he's one of the wackest rappers of all-time, he has as many good songs as Will does classic albums, Will's a legend in hip-hop, not Mase, I never heard in my life anyone say that Mase is a legend.
  22. You make some good points there fuq, people are always gonna be offended by what people do or say no matter what else you do, people constantly criticize R. Kelly and Michael Jackson too for their few faults and ignore their many accomplishments in the music industry, there were many good moments about the BET awards too but people shine their light on the negativity, Chuck D's one of the smartest people in hip-hop and is a good role model for the youth but he ain't perfect either and not everybody likes him, people could be offended from him cursing in his raps sometimes just like they would be offended for Will and Jada cursing on BET but I'd rather have a 10-year old listen to Public Enemy than I would have them listen to Ja Rule, nobody's perfect though BET did screw up though if you think about it, how would you feel about having your younger cousin or brother or sister watching women giving lapdances and Will and Jada cursing in the commercial but they also screw up by playing mostly videos with no subject matter to them about pimps and hoes and they don't play Public Enemy or KRS-ONE videos and maybe once a month you'll see them play Will's videos, BET needs better content if it's aimed for kids but so does a lot of other channels, even Will addressed that on "I Wish I Made That" that people don't consider him black 'cause he ain't rapping about shooting and robbing banks, I mean I'm old enough to know that it's all fun and entertainment but sometimes kids could take things literally.
  23. If people feel offended by that they shouldn't watch BET and shouldn't let their kids watch BET if they have strong beliefs against swearing, nobody forces them to watch it if they don't want to, it was just a skit though, but even Chuck D said something in his latest terrordome about how the BET awards shouldn't have had Destiny's Child giving lapdances 'cause it's supposed to be a family show, but there's worse things in music videos than anything at that show and Destiny's Child makes positive music so it's hard to see Mistachuck's logic there 'cause even some people get offended by Public Enemy's music, I mean it wasn't like a gangsta rap video, maybe it's 'cause some black people get mad though that they're being potrayed in a negative aspect, there should be a petition against them gangsta rappers more than the BET network. btw, here's what Chuck D said about the BET Awards: "Now, Magic Johnson getting a lap dance? What does this mean? Must've been a cruel ass joke or something, eh? Again I've said the second B.E.T got white corporate ownership, out the window went any accountability and responsibility to the black community. B.E.T was cross body blocked at the head and knees by VIACOM in 2000 by taking off Tavis Smiley and Teen Summit almost simultaneously. Uncle Bob Johnson who sold it in lieu of an NBA Basketball franchise in Charlotte gets a Beyonce styled booty lap dance on national TV with her father in the front row, excuse me while I cough up blood here. Damn, does ratings and money mean we lower standards below the tacky line. Makes me sound cantankerous, but I'm telling you this is making that capitol scene in Birth Of A Nation fit in perfect to what I saw. A bunch of hypocritical triple talkers I'd say. A teen idol named Omarion is on the show, why? To make you understood that there's a younger demographic. Then where does the strip club act fit in and to who? And is it appropriate for the CEO to show he's down too...? ...sheeeee White folks who now have this mutated existence window itself through the tube probably consider this a march of money making monkeys. We can no longer say we don't care about what people think. These whippings of ass distraction have a place, but again in very dark adult circles. Man, as I say it doesn't do me good baseball bat bashing B.E.T. But you have little choice but to hate on something that just don't love you."
  24. You get the feeling that Will did those "Freakin' It" and "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" type songs to compete with the other rappers on the charts at the time since it was the bling-bling era, he shouldn't worry about competing with 50 Cent and them chart rappers, he should do more tracks that're on his mind and if he does any fun tracks it should be like "Girls Ain't Nothin' But Trouble" type song where he's poking fun on a dillema and that'd get him the most respect among his peers.
  25. Hi-Tek's a great producer and he brought out the best of Talib Kweli on "Train Of Thought", that's one of the best albums ever made in hip-hop, I'm looking forward to seeing them work together again! :dj:
