Mase only had one clean album last year that was just average, there are more powerful mcs like Rakim and Run-DMC that made clean albums that rank among all time greats that you could've mentioned instead of Mase 'cause they're in the hip-hop hall of fame with JJFP. Mase is more like a minor league mc as far as his rhyme skills are concerned!

:yeahthat: I honestly don't think Bow Wow'll be a legend either but he is the best young cat on the hip-hop scene and I'm say he'd have the best chance to be one, slightly better than Memphis Bleek, Fabolous, Juelz Santana, and a few others that make forgettable music which doesn't say much about where hip-hop is heading and the intelligence of the youth too, if you look at the rhymes that LL, FP, Rakim, and KRS made when they were in the teens/early 20s compared to rappers out now that are now in that age bracket, it's mindblowing, it seems like cats in high school can't even write their names now, let alone a rhyme, lol, I think peeps like me and fuq are gonna have to come on the scene, lol, the veteran mcs that came out 10+ years ago are still the best ones, they're our living legends! The stuff that Jazzy produces Jill Scott is far superior to what Kanye does with Alicia Keys, Alicia Keys is a better producer than Kanye. Speaking of Alicia Keys, where are the new talented females at in hip-hop? I think Jean Graye is the best female mc in a while but I wonder if she'll ever get fame. JD brought in talented artists like Jagged Edge and Usher the same way Teddy Riley brought in talented artists like Keith Sweat and Guy in the new jack swing era, JD said in an interview he was influenced from that New Jack Swing Era and he's keepin' that essence alive so damn right he's a legend, although I personally prefer Guy over Jagged Edge and Keith Sweat is the man but Usher's a great dancer, we all have different tastes, there are some legends that we won't listen to much but we could still recognize that they're legends.

I think Will should do more storytellin' fun tracks again too as well as serious tracks, he's great at doing all of that, we need cats like Will and Slick Rick to keep it fun as much as we need Common and KRS-ONE to keep it serious, hip-hop needs balance again! :dj:

Yeah Dr. Dre is a legend from "The Chronic" and "Straight Outta Compton" but his recent work has proven he has fallen off for having other people produce songs with him and other people writing songs for him so he is not the greatest producer ever like people say he is basically what I'm saying. MC Hammer is a legend 'cause he opened more doors in hip-hop than Kanye West has ever did for bringing positive rhymes on the commercial scene, he would outperform him easily in show too and you know it so don't front, Black Eyed Peas get a lot of hate but they make more postive music than G Unit does, they're the best group on the commercial scene since the Fugees, they help people remember the Fugees, "Where Is The Love" is better than "Jesus Walks" too, and they got James Brown "The Godfather Of Soul" on their album where most rappers only sample him, I think James Brown having love for the Black Eyed Peas is more relevant than people dissing Black Eyed Peas, they're just jealous, Talib Kweli and Q-Tip are down with them too since they're on the Black Eyed Pea album, De La Soul gave them props in the last Vibe issue too. I don't get how people could say Will and MC Hammer are sellouts and say Eminem and Jay-Z are legends, I mean isn't "My Name Is" and "H to the Izzo" as commercial as "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" and "U Can't Touch This"? Either they're all legends or none of them are whether you like them or not 'cause that's contradictory to favor one over the other! People call LL soft for making love songs like "I Need Love" but didn't Common make "The Light"? Songs about love are something we all could relate to but that gangbanging s*** gets played out after a while, that's why I cannot say that NWA is a better group than Tribe Called Quest. A lot of cats were influenced off of Jazzy Jeff's producing style, including Dr. Dre and Kanye West, "Summertime" came out before "The Chronic" and "College Dropout" didn't it? btw, Michael Jackson doesn't write of all his songs either so that means he's wack? :wtf: There are many ways to be a legend, not just songwriting, you could be a great freestyler, you could be a great performer, you could make great videos, and still be a positive influence on music. If DMX died in '99, he'd be considered a legend just like Pac and Biggie, dead rappers get a legendary bias, we don't know what would happen if they were living, they'd be underrated like DMX is!

It's not that big of an issue if a 15-year old doesn't write all of his rhymes, not many even rap when they're 15 anyway, Bow Wow has skills 'cause he wouldn't have been discovered at 5 years old if he didn't, he hasn't done anything yet so far groundbreaking but give him time. 50 Cent ghostwrote most of Game's album supposedly and I think KRS-ONE and Big Pun used to write a lot of Fat Joe's rhymes and now Dr. Dre not writing his rhymes at 40 years old is embarassing, he's only a legend for producing and there's a rumor that he has people ghostproduce the stuff for him too so he's a fake!

Exclusive New Tatyana Ali & Kel Spencer Track!
bigted replied to Hero1's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
So is the Kel Spencer mixtape coming out yet? Any new details, I see they added a bio for him on his website but I don't see anything about what day the mixtape will be released, I'd like to hear some of those other mixtapes he was involved on. -
There's nothing wrong with Kanye West, I never said that he was wack but the problem today with commercial rap is that there's so many wack albums out that if somebody drops a solid release people are quick to jump on it and call it a classic 'cause it does blow competition away when there's not much out there, it shouldn't be called a legendary album, there were rappers 10-15 ago that put out solid albums but there was so much great stuff out that they got overlooked, but if they dropped 'em now they'd be called classic, there ain't gonna be too many legends from this era I don't think, people are still talking about "Parents Just Don't Understand", "Children's Story", "South Bronx", and "Rock The Bells" nearly 20 years after they were released, rappers might sell more now but I don't think their music'll stand the test of time like that, it's better to have 20,000 people buy your music and remember it for the rest of their lives than to have 20 million buy your music and forget it a few years later. btw, DMX has earned legend status in my opinion too 'cause when he came out he brought hardcore lyricism to the game in the bling-bling era by dropping 2 classic albums in one year, nobody ever did that before, he could rip a lot of mcs to shreds, I'm looking forward to his new album, he deserves more respect than what he gets at this point 'cause he's right up there with Nas, Jay-Z, and Common since he stands out with an original style.
-
I look at skills, longevity, and originality as big factor for being a legend more than popularity 'cause if we were to say being popular's the big factor, Ja Rule would be a legend, lol. Kanye needs to put more time in to be a legend 'cause I don't think he's the most skillful mc out now, Common and Mos Def would rip him to shreds and he doesn't rank up there with DJ Premiere or Jazzy Jeff when it comes to making dope beats either, he is bringing more consciousness to hip-hop though and respect is given but to call him a legend right now would be silly 'cause I would not rank "College Dropout" up there with "Paid In Full" or even "The Master" for that matter.
-
"Jesus Walks" is an average song about God too, there are a lot of dope gospel rappers out there, Kanye didn't originate songs about God either. I didn't say that Bow Wow song would make him a legend either but if you're saying "Jesus Walks" makes Kanye a pioneer you must be trippin', MC Hammer was one of the 1st to make songs about God popular, remember "Pray" and "Do Not Pass Me By"? 2Pac also made powerful songs like "Keep Ya Head Up" and "Me Against The World". I don't get how people could say MC Hammer's soft for making songs about God and turn around and call Kanye West a genious, it must be 'cause Kanye curses and MC Hammer doesn't, MC Hammer is more original than him though and people are ignorant. KRS-ONE also makes songs about God too including a gospel rap album so don't tell me Kanye's a legend for that!

You have to insult 50 in every one of your posts about hip-hop, ain't it? ← Nah man you must have me confused with AJ! :lolsign: Bow Wow was freestyling when he was 5 years old and Snoop Dogg liked it so much that he got a record deal, how many rappers could say that? He was rapping a lot of kid s*** before though when he 1st came out so I really didn't like him that much but that was kinda cool to see a 13-year old rapping, lol, more entertaining than seeing a million thug rappers, when I heard "My Baby" though, I see that his style's more mature now, that actually had me buy that "Unleashed" album, that's a pretty solid effort for any rapper now, I bet he could even compete with Kanye in a freestyle battle, some of his songs are commercial but even Jay-Z does commercial songs, he's bound to drop a classic soon, mark my word on that one, it even took Jay-Z until he was 26 to drop one remember, in fact I'd buy Bow Wow's new album faster than I would buy Kanye's new one if I had to choose but I'm broke so I won't buy either, lol. This song "To My Mama" he made about his mama is deeper than what most rappers today talk about: "[bow Wow - talking] (Amerie) Haha, yeah, this song right here is dedicated to that one special woman in my life, right (Thank you for loving me) My mother (And thank you for holding me down) Theresa (I know that you care for me) Renee (Cause you always been around) Sing it (Thank you for loving me) Ma this song right here is for you (Wanna thank you for holding me down) Haha, all the love you showed me (I know that you care for me) I'm a give it right back to you, let's go (Cause you've always been around) [Chorus - Amerie] (Bow Wow) - 2X All of the things you do (yeah) I can never repay you (uh huh) I can't imagine life without you (My mama, my road dog) [Verse 1 - Bow Wow] Anything you need from me, mom you know that it's yours You're the only woman in my life that I adore I remember back in the days when we couldn't get much TV's wasn't comin and the floor was tore up Now you juggle three jobs just to take care of me Yo baby boy, Bow Weezy Late night shifts, daytime to the AM Comin home late, there was my best friend My soulmate, yes my big brother The one who tucked me in, put me under the covers When I had nightmares, you came right away Read me bedtime stories and chased them away My beautiful black queen, my everything The one that keeps this heart pumpin everyday I'm a young man now, but my plan is to show you that I really understand Mom, I love you [Chorus] - 2X (without the "yeah" and "uh huh" from Bow Wow) [Verse 2 - Bow Wow] Look at you now, you sittin up on top of the world Got a X5 and a Benz just to swerve Got ya dream house now, sittin on big land Big money, big jewels, big game plan You told me one day I would make it this far Have God in my life and I'm gonna be the star I did it, well, look where we at Don't have to worry 'bout past due bills and all that Don't have to worry 'bout them bill collectors all on your back Don't worry, if you ain't got it, I got your back Don't even worry 'bout you workin 3 jobs real late Don't have to worry when you have no food to put on the plate Back then, I didn't understand but I do now I look back and I reminisce on how it all went down Went from bad to good, from frowns to smiles Mom I really love you, understand now I love you [Chorus] - 2X (without the "yeah" and "uh huh" from Bow Wow) [break - Amerie] (Bow Wow) Thank you for loving me (say what now) Thank you for holding me down (say what now) I know that you care for me (sing that) Cause you've always been around (kick it back and) Thank you for loving me (say what now) Thank you for holding me down (say what now) All that you care for me (say what) Cause you've always been around (drop the beat back) [bow Wow] (Amerie) Yo (yeah, ah) This song right here is dedicated to my mother (and ohh) And all the mothers out there (oh oh ooh) Every mother (yeah) All the single mothers out there workin hard (oh oh yeah) Just keep ya head up (oh) And we gonna do it like this for all the mothers now (oh oh oh ooh) All the mothers rock, rock, rock on, uh (ooh) All the mothers rock, rock, rock on, uh (ooh) If you with me, rock, rock, rock on, uh (ooh) Uh, a ha, uh (just keep ya, just keep ya) Just keep ya head up (just keep ya) Uh, a ha, uh rock on (just keep ya head up) Uh uhu uh rock on, uh (just keep ya head up) All my single mothers, rock on (yeah) All my mothers c'mon, uh (yeah, yeah) [Chorus] - 2X (without Bow Wow's "my mama, my road dog" the second time) [Amerie - singing over Chorus and solo until fade] All the things you do That's why I love you That's why I need you That's why I need you, yeah Tll the things you do I can never replace ya I can't imagine my life without the one I love AHH .. NOO Yeah, yeah, yeah WOO, ew, ew Yeah, yeah Oh, oh, oh, oh, no I love you mama Said I love you mama Yeah, yeah.."

It's debatable that Jay-Z made 3 classics, most people only say "Reasonable Doubt", the rest of them they think are good except for "Volume 3" and "Dynasty" those were wack, he started mad biting off of Biggie after he passed, it's cool to pay homage to your homie but leave it to a minimum, "Reasonable Doubt" was his most original work he's done, he ain't as consistant as Rakim, KRS, LL, FP, or Slick Rick, but he's been in the game for a decade so he musta done something right, "Illmatic" will be remembered more than "Reasonable Doubt" by most people too, all of Nas' albums have potential to be called classics especially "It Was Written" and "Stillmatic", except "Nastradomous" which had better songs than Volume 3 to me, so he's the best mc in the last decade, but again credit given to Jigga for still at least being out there, I ain't a big Jigga fan so I can't call him the greatest, I respect your opinion though. JD is a legendary producer and a big songwriter, he's worked with big names in all genres of music, he's like the new school version of Teddy Riley, Kanye West don't have s*** on either of them, he barely writes his own let alone other peoples and is just an above average producer. "Jesus Walks" is good but as legendary as "The Message"? Bow Wow is more developed at this point than Memphis Bleek or Fabolous are, Jigga should've signed him, lol, most kid rappers fade away by the time they grow up but it looks like Bow Wow will have longevity, he was a better mc at 13 than 50 Cent is now too, I can't be mad at him 'cause I didn't even make it yet and I'm 20!

Nice to see they recognize Will on there, he definately has kept his youth, I wish I could ever look that good.

I been wantin to say this for a while
bigted replied to Jetdash's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
I think that "Born To Reign" track was aimed towards mcs like Em 'cause he seems to be another lost mc. -
Digital Underground is mad underrated, I wish Shock G nothin' but peace in his life, he's a legend.
-
A big Michael Jordan fan and the future big mc in hip-hop that's "From The Penn".

Eminem wasn't the best white rapper, the Beastie Boys are 'cause they're original, they're one of the most creative groups ever period right up there with Public Enemy, Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, and Run-DMC, Em's just another 2Pac wannabe, but he'll probably end up being more famous than 2Pac sadly when it's all said and done, it's just like Elvis getting more fame than James Brown when he bit a lot from James Brown, it does suck that he's gonna continue producing, he should give that up too and let Jazzy Jeff, DJ Premiere, Pete Rock, and Teddy Riley get the shine they deserve again. It's kinda funny that his last album's named "Encore" 'cause Jay-Z' last single was "Encore", but at least Jay-Z' last album was more solid compared to Em, if "Ass Like That" is his last single, it's a hard fall for him, "People dissin' Will sat on a wall/people dissin' Will had a great fall!" :lolsign:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shock G's retirement announcement, posted at Thug Life Army: i'm retiring from all forms of studio work and song writing. My reasons for retiring are: 1. I get no satisfaction or fullfillment from it anymore. It doesn't make me happy. On the contrary, it depresses me. Normally I'm not depressed, it's only surrounding the studio. I'm happy when I'm away from the studio. 2. Can't make a living at it. 90% of the studio work I've done in the last 6 years has all been either for free or for peanuts, and hasn't generated any income since. 3. It drives me to do drugs, cause I HATE BEING IN THE STUDIO. To much pressure & expectation for me to make/save/spark someone elses career or project. 4. I quit the studio. **** the studio. 5. I can't win in the studio, It's pointless, it's a "catch 22" for me, watch: If what I do sucks, it tarnishes the legacy, hurts the family, and even lowers the price, and also leaves the artists & involved-companies unhappy; But if what I do shines, it generates more studio work for the future, and furthur traps me in the music business, a business I have no intention of slaving to the rest of my life. I gave it 20 years. I'm done. 6. Every man has the right to the pursuit of happiness and should first try a job that he might gain happiness & fullfillment from. This doesn't make me happy anymore, it makes me miserable and a drug addict. 7. I'm done widdit. Whew! YES, it already feels great already just to say it!!! I most likely will try my hand at some of these: > writing (Afeni assures me this is my true calling everytime she see's me. Maybe she's right?) > acting > stage performing, meaning accepting tours or positions in other bands doing keys & background vocals. (IF it's real and if the moneys good. No amatuer or free stuff anymore.) > regular jobs in service (like clubs, hotels, TV show bands or staff, resturants, who knows?) > ..and of course still do digital tours cause it PAYS and people don't expect me & Mon (grown men) to work for free, like all the studio requests. I'm 42 and have wants/needs/bills/responsibilities. So there it is, spread the word, I quit. I don't make beats, I don't do vocals, I don't write vocals, NONE OF IT. Those of you who are friends, will be happy for me. Happy that I shook something that was making me miserable. Those of you who had plans to "use" or manipulate me at the expense of my own health & happiness, will be upset about this. All I can say to those would be, you're free to do whatever you wish, and so am I. I choose to QUIT. there it is. Thanx everybody, spread the word shock _________________ Damn I'm actually upset about this retirement, Shock G's one of the coolest rappers in the industry that helped 2Pac become famous, he'll be missed.

Eminem a legend? :haha: His career is based on nothing but gimmicks, just 2 solid albums, he fell off badly after "Marshall Mathers LP", he never did anything so ground breaking, he bit his lyrical style off of ol' school rappers and he wasn't the 1st white rapper, Beastie Boys were the 1st white rappers, not him. Jay-Z did a lot of biting too in his career but he has respect for the history of hip-hop so he could qualify as a legend since he has one more classic album than most rappers do, he's benefitting from a lot of wack mcs out now and hip-hop being more commercial than it was when JJFP came out. Fugees, Naughty By Nature, and Outkast'll be known as a legendary hip-hop groups, they've set the standard in the last 10 years. Common, DMX, and Nas are the best mcs in the last 10 years of consistancy so they'll be legends. Kanye West only has one album so far that was overrated and if his new one is as weak as "Diamonds...", he won't ever be a legend either. Bow Wow has potential to be a legend more than any of these young mcs out now, he's a positive mc that's coming of age, it's gonna be interesting to hear what he has to say on his next upcoming albums, he could be the future, he's mentored by JD who's gonna be known as another legend from this era. I think a lot of unknown mcs that are on the underground scene will be known as legends one day, especially the ones that are associated with legends like Kel Spencer who's down with FP, Paris who's down with Public Enemy, OC and Supastition that're down with KRS and Big Daddy Kane, since a lot of the commercial stuff now will be forgettable years ahead, "Country Grammar" and "Marshall Mathers LP" will be albums that'll fade from memory and albums like "'93 Til Infinity" will be known as classics from this era, looking back many decades from now.
-
It's about time that he's retired if it's true, he's ran out of ideas to talk about which proves that he's the most overrated mc ever, 'cause mcs like FP, KRS-ONE, and LL always come up with different concepts all the time even after all these years, maybe now they'll get more due when Em moves to the side, hopefully 50 Cent is next.
-
I think Memphis Bleek is an average mc most of the time, he hasn't really done anything to stand out but he doesn't sound horrible, he's the borderline between great mcs and wack mcs, Jay-Z needs to sign better mcs though if he wants to keep his label flowing well if he doesn't put out anymore albums, it'll be interesting to see what Foxy Brown does on her album.
-
I actually thought about this rhyme when I was listening to "Big Poppa"by Biggie, my style's a lil' bit more mature now, I do like that rhyme though, your rhyme's pretty cool too.

Ol' school JJFP fan that beat me twice in freestyle battles on the forum.
