  1. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shock G's retirement announcement, posted at Thug Life Army: i'm retiring from all forms of studio work and song writing. My reasons for retiring are: 1. I get no satisfaction or fullfillment from it anymore. It doesn't make me happy. On the contrary, it depresses me. Normally I'm not depressed, it's only surrounding the studio. I'm happy when I'm away from the studio. 2. Can't make a living at it. 90% of the studio work I've done in the last 6 years has all been either for free or for peanuts, and hasn't generated any income since. 3. It drives me to do drugs, cause I HATE BEING IN THE STUDIO. To much pressure & expectation for me to make/save/spark someone elses career or project. 4. I quit the studio. **** the studio. 5. I can't win in the studio, It's pointless, it's a "catch 22" for me, watch: If what I do sucks, it tarnishes the legacy, hurts the family, and even lowers the price, and also leaves the artists & involved-companies unhappy; But if what I do shines, it generates more studio work for the future, and furthur traps me in the music business, a business I have no intention of slaving to the rest of my life. I gave it 20 years. I'm done. 6. Every man has the right to the pursuit of happiness and should first try a job that he might gain happiness & fullfillment from. This doesn't make me happy anymore, it makes me miserable and a drug addict. 7. I'm done widdit. Whew! YES, it already feels great already just to say it!!! I most likely will try my hand at some of these: > writing (Afeni assures me this is my true calling everytime she see's me. Maybe she's right?) > acting > stage performing, meaning accepting tours or positions in other bands doing keys & background vocals. (IF it's real and if the moneys good. No amatuer or free stuff anymore.) > regular jobs in service (like clubs, hotels, TV show bands or staff, resturants, who knows?) > ..and of course still do digital tours cause it PAYS and people don't expect me & Mon (grown men) to work for free, like all the studio requests. I'm 42 and have wants/needs/bills/responsibilities. So there it is, spread the word, I quit. I don't make beats, I don't do vocals, I don't write vocals, NONE OF IT. Those of you who are friends, will be happy for me. Happy that I shook something that was making me miserable. Those of you who had plans to "use" or manipulate me at the expense of my own health & happiness, will be upset about this. All I can say to those would be, you're free to do whatever you wish, and so am I. I choose to QUIT. there it is. Thanx everybody, spread the word shock _________________ Damn I'm actually upset about this retirement, Shock G's one of the coolest rappers in the industry that helped 2Pac become famous, he'll be missed.
  2. Eminem a legend? :haha: His career is based on nothing but gimmicks, just 2 solid albums, he fell off badly after "Marshall Mathers LP", he never did anything so ground breaking, he bit his lyrical style off of ol' school rappers and he wasn't the 1st white rapper, Beastie Boys were the 1st white rappers, not him. Jay-Z did a lot of biting too in his career but he has respect for the history of hip-hop so he could qualify as a legend since he has one more classic album than most rappers do, he's benefitting from a lot of wack mcs out now and hip-hop being more commercial than it was when JJFP came out. Fugees, Naughty By Nature, and Outkast'll be known as a legendary hip-hop groups, they've set the standard in the last 10 years. Common, DMX, and Nas are the best mcs in the last 10 years of consistancy so they'll be legends. Kanye West only has one album so far that was overrated and if his new one is as weak as "Diamonds...", he won't ever be a legend either. Bow Wow has potential to be a legend more than any of these young mcs out now, he's a positive mc that's coming of age, it's gonna be interesting to hear what he has to say on his next upcoming albums, he could be the future, he's mentored by JD who's gonna be known as another legend from this era. I think a lot of unknown mcs that are on the underground scene will be known as legends one day, especially the ones that are associated with legends like Kel Spencer who's down with FP, Paris who's down with Public Enemy, OC and Supastition that're down with KRS and Big Daddy Kane, since a lot of the commercial stuff now will be forgettable years ahead, "Country Grammar" and "Marshall Mathers LP" will be albums that'll fade from memory and albums like "'93 Til Infinity" will be known as classics from this era, looking back many decades from now.
  3. It's about time that he's retired if it's true, he's ran out of ideas to talk about which proves that he's the most overrated mc ever, 'cause mcs like FP, KRS-ONE, and LL always come up with different concepts all the time even after all these years, maybe now they'll get more due when Em moves to the side, hopefully 50 Cent is next.
  4. I think Memphis Bleek is an average mc most of the time, he hasn't really done anything to stand out but he doesn't sound horrible, he's the borderline between great mcs and wack mcs, Jay-Z needs to sign better mcs though if he wants to keep his label flowing well if he doesn't put out anymore albums, it'll be interesting to see what Foxy Brown does on her album.
  5. I actually thought about this rhyme when I was listening to "Big Poppa"by Biggie, my style's a lil' bit more mature now, I do like that rhyme though, your rhyme's pretty cool too.
  6. This is my 1st ever song, I was trying to impress a girl in my high school, lol: "Playa-4-Life" Big Ted's 1st Rap Song Written During April 2000 Intro: Yo, yo, this joint goes out to y'all fly ladies Who are checking me out Big Ted's in the house Check it out y'all Verse One: Yo, baby boo What up with you I can see that ya want me too 'Cause you just screamed ooh Yo, check it, if you want, we could rendez-vous To my crib about one or two You know that Big Ted wants to bust a move Don't worry yo, I ain't gonna hurt you It's your choice But I can hear it in your voice You wanna ride on me like a cadillac or a royals-royce 'Cause Big Ted is turning you on No doubt, word is bond Shorty let's just get it on I ain't letting a dumb busta screw your dream That's why you need Big T-to the-E-to the D 'Cause this homie ain't a dream When it comes to the honeyz I'm never mean Yo, I'm the real deal like Evander Holyfield With my lyrical appeal No doubt, I'm keepin' it real This love won't be cheesy 'Cause this love will flow real easily Since Big Ted's a big time playa shorty Chorus: Yo, yo, I'm a playa-4-life I'm a playa-4-life Boo when we make love it'll last all night To all the playa-haters, I'll make y'all sick 'Cause I'll lyrically hurt ya quick As I'm droppin' another #1 hit Verse Two: I noticed at the club, I blew ya mind 'Cause you now think of me all the time You're telling me that u wanna wine and dine After I spitted this joint, you never heard anything that's hot like mine Big Ted has that hot lyrical design That ain't gonna stop until the end of time No other rapper will get the shine Shorty, let me take ya for a ride You see I'm styling right by ya side I'm turning you on, 'cause you're smiling When you see me rhyming Yo, there ain't any need to deny Give Big Ted a try I can see that look in ya eye Yo, like Blackstreet says: you want a fix I can hit it quick 'Cause you look dark and tasty like Twix Don't getit twisted, if you wanna roll We can take this slow And meet me after da show Teddy'll be in control 'Cause this is how the game flows Yo, we can do it in front of the whole crowd Or take it to the back of my truck with this beat real loud I know you'd like that Yo, maybe we could do more than chat Don't get it twisted, this could be more than tonight If you could keep it tight You don't have to worry aight Big Ted ain't the one to leave behind We don't need to fight Maybe you'll be my wife One day if you could hold down this playa-4-life Maybe when this rap tour is through I'll come holla back at you You're a fly honey that has class I ain't only trying to smash Yo, let's spend sometime And maybe I'll make you mine When y'all shorties are with Big Ted, I won't make ya pitty 'Cause my game's never s****y Just give Big Ted a try Destiny doesn't lie 'Cause we might be togetha 'till the end of time But for this moment...[chorus 3x]
  7. Nas feat. Maxwell "No One Else In The Room"
  8. Ol' school JJFP fan that beat me twice in freestyle battles on the forum.
  9. well i don't believe Tell Me Why was recorded for B2R like some people say. Will said about 3.5 years ago. 3.5 years ago will was probably already preparing for the release of B2R (it released a lil over 3 years ago). of course, when Will wrote the song it could've been durin the B2R era, but i don't think he quite recorded it then. of course Will's even said how he's always in the studio recording, so he could be recording the hit record for his next album right now as we speak! :lolsign: well, actually now that i look at the facts, Jam Master Jay died on October 30, 2002, a little less than 3 years ago. he probably had the idea for the song and some of it written out back then, but the track obviously wasn't finalized. who knows, Will might've been exaggerating when he said 3.5 years ago.. maybe he meant 2.5 but whatever, lets get back on topic i'll definitely keep my eyes and ears out for PS making the video... that would be sweet and by the way whoever said the reason B2R didnt sell that much was because it only had one single, is not completely true. there were a lot of factors including promotion, single choice, and just it wasn't as good as L&F all around. ← That'd be nice if a lot of the unreleased tracks got released through mixtapes, B2R wasn't promoted right but a lot of classic albums don't sell much and Nelly's album was much weaker than B2R and it sold a lot, so quality usually doesn't sell, 'Big Willie Style' wasn't Will's greater than his JJFP stuff just 'cause it sold more.
  10. Yeah there's so many mcs/producers that deserve the attention that Kanye West gets but it'd be interesting to hear what a track with FP would sound like, I think I'd live if that never happened, I'd rather see him do a song with DJ Premiere and LL Cool J, that's a song I'd remember for the rest of my life! :dj:
  11. The bottom line is not too many people are gonna say 10-15 years from now, "Hey that Nickelodeon show that Nick Cannon did back in the day was classic and his 1st rap album was too!", but they say that now about the early JJFP albums and "The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air", in fact people probably still'll be talking about JJFP and Will's acting career many years ahead 'cause what Will does is standing the test of time. That's the problem a lot of today's younger rappers have, their stuff might be hits at the moment and get a lot of airplay now, but years ahead nobody's gonna talk about what Nick Cannon, Bow Wow, Romeo, Nelly, Cassidy, Nitty, Juelz Santana, etc. are doing now many years ahead 'cause not too many hip-hop heads take what they're doing that serious now, and even their fanbase will grow out of their music, but what JJFP, Slick Rick, LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Run-Dmc, Rakim, etc.'ve done when they 1st came out at such young ages is standing the test of time and that makes them the hip-hop legends they are, they're could never be another golden era of hip-hop unless the music stands the test of time, and in order to be a legendary actor the films you do have to also stand the test of time.
  12. "Tell Me Why" couldn't have been made in the "Born To Reign" era, Jam Master Jay was still alive then, a lot of songs are made ahead of time by a lot of artists, he probably has songs for the next album recorded already too.
  13. That's a very difficult task to accomplish, probably even by Will Smith. :hmm: ← Will's sold 546, 360 copies off of arguably the weakest track on the album so don't doubt him going multi platinum when he releases stronger songs from the album, it usually takes more than one single to go gold in the 1st place so don't doubt Will!
  14. Here's this week's sales: 43 SMITH*WILL LOST & FOUND 20,363 -11 23,008 546,360 Only 453,640 more until platinum!
  15. Great news, it's finally coming then! :jazzy:
  16. I think it'd fallen even worse if he didn't perform at Live 8, the sales are down to 20,363, not too bad of a drop 'cause even Mariah and Black Eyed Peas sales slowed down a lil' bit too and they performed also at Live 8, most albums are down, congrats to R.Kelly nearly certified gold the 1st week! That'll probably be the 1st platinum album for a solo male r&b singer since Usher's last year: TWRank--Artist--Title--TWSales--%CHG--LWSales--RTDSales 1 KELLY*R. 17. That'd be a dream come true if the PE video gets released soon around the same time "Party Starter" comes out! :kool:
  18. Here's a bio of Paris, he's the one who produced the whole album: http://www.music.us/biography/artist/28939/paris.html I might check out some of his stuff, he sounds like dope hip-hop artist. I heard about the album being leaked already, I didn't hear it yet, but it seems like those that heard it are feelin' it and sayin' that it's the best PE album in years.
  19. Peep the new single from PE feat. Paris, Dead Prez, and Kam "Can't Hold Us Back", it's the last song on the page, click on listen: http://www.undergroundhiphop.com/search/se...&keywords=Paris
  20. Yeah I heard about MJ's son Jeffrey a few days ago on ESPN, it's gonna be a lot of pressure for him to be successful at basketball and live up to his dad's legacy, a lot of sons of great players don't even make the league, I don't think Ewing's son'll make the NBA unless he has a great senior year at Duke.
  21. It's the "G.O.A.T." with "The Chosen One"
  22. http://www.upabove.com/press_kev_idowhatido.html Kev Brown I Do What I Do CD UPA1016-2 2xLP UPA1016-1 Street Date: 9.20.2005 ................................................. Hailing from Landover, MD, Kev Brown has ascended the ranks of the underground to solidify himself as one of hip-hop’s most prolific and universally respected talents. While producing for a range of artists that include De La Soul, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Jewel, it wasn’t until his remix work “The Brown Album,” the highlight of what became a billion homemade remixes of Jay-Z’s “The Black Album,” that Kev Brown captured the attention of the entire hip-hop community. Paying homage to the true school while honing his own jazz-infused sound, Kev Brown has garnished a reputation as the “torch-bearer of the golden era.” Heavily influenced by renowned beatsmiths such as Pete Rock, Jay Dee, and DJ Premier, he continues to receive worldwide acclaim for his distinctive brand of grimy soul. And while Kev’s buttery-smooth production and laid-back vocals shine throughout the album, the project also features a host of guests spots from Critically Acclaimed, Cy Young, Grap Luva, Oddisee, Phonte (of Little Brother), Kenn Starr, Kronkite, Wayna, and Eric Roberson. After numerous collaborations and a host of buzzworthy 12-inches, Kev Brown now steps forward with his debut solo album aptly-titled “I Do What I Do.” This forthcoming project guarantees to have the entire hip-hop world taking notice. 1.
