  1. Well it finally looks like "Switch" has milked dry, bring on "Party Starter"! I got the soundscan chart from okayplayer.com, Master P even outsold Will this week and his album has gotten lil' promotion, LL Cool J should sue him for ruining "I Need Love" by calling it "I Need Dubs", it's dissapointing to see people still buying 50 Cent and Mike Jones more than Will Smith, even Common's sales are slipping, the bright side for Will is certified gold we could start the countdown to platinum now 'cause going gold has been accomplished: TWRank--Artist--Title--TWSales--%CHG--LWSales--RTDSales 1 COLDPLAY X&Y 186,427 -42 322,990 1,248,383 2 CAREY*MARIAH EMANCIPATION OF 2. Well if Jazzy Jeff is there, Will is gonna perform, Jazzy Jeff wasn't there last night so they didn't perform at the BET Awards.
  3. :word: They're showing Jazzy Jeff some love over there, I wish I could go, it sucks though that Jazzy Jeff couldn't make it to the BET awards last night to perform with Will.
  4. Performances Steal BET Awards Spotlight By RYAN PEARSON Associated Press Writer LOS ANGELES - Stevie Wonder showed off his dance moves, Will Smith arrived in a horse-drawn carriage and The Fugees got together again. Extravagant performances and on-stage antics largely stole the spotlight from the winners at Tuesday night's BET Awards - if the winners showed up at all, that is. Among the eight no-shows was top honoree Kanye West, who earned trophies for male hip-hop artist and video of the year for his "Jesus Walks." West's discovery, piano man John Legend, picked up his trophy for new artist and performed "Ordinary People" and "My Cherie Amour" with Wonder, who later danced while singing his new single, "So What The Fuss." Soul diva Alicia Keys hoisted her award for female R&B artist toward the audience and declared: "This is for all my people who are really trying to dream big dreams." Others who did show included soon-to-disband Destiny's Child, named best group, and 19-year-old Atlanta singer Ciara, the leading nominee who won for her dance collaboration with Missy Elliott on "1, 2 Step." The show kicked off with a surprise reunion of The Fugees, who haven't recorded an album together since 1996's "The Score" and haven't even been on speaking terms in recent years. "If you want another Fugee album, let me see your hands in the air right now," Wyclef Jean said after climbing into the crowd. The group performed "Ready Or Not" and put a reggae twist on "Fu-Gee-La." Lauryn Hill, who had largely dropped out of public view since her 2002 live album, sounded weak at first, saying at one point, "We got a little overzealous in rehearsal." Her voice returned in time for a rendition of "Killing Me Softly With His Song." Backstage, third member Pras said the group was in the studio and hoped to release an album next year. The Fugees split after "egos got real big," he said, adding that there were "a lot of wounds ... getting healed right now." Hosts Mr. and Mrs. Smith - that's Will and Jada Pinkett - arrived on-stage at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre in a horse-drawn carriage with spinning custom rims. Jamie Foxx won the award for best actor, and though he wasn't on stage he had recorded an audio message to presenter Tom Cruise, saying: "I'm jumping up and down on the couch right now in my room." Denzel Washington's wife Pauletta accepted an award honoring the couple's charitable endeavors, and Keys presented R&B and gospel legend Gladys Knight with a lifetime achievement trophy. "Every record that you bought and every concert ticket that you paid for has allowed me to be in this spot today," said Knight, who wore a pink jacket with feathery flourishes on the sleeves. Knight then performed three songs including the tune that got her and the Pips their first Grammy, "Neither One Of Us (Wants To Be The First To Say Goodbye)." Winners of the fifth annual awards show were decided by a panel of executives from entertainment companies, record labels and the media, except the viewers' choice award in which fans voted online for their favorite video.

  6. I really didn't get to see much of the NBA Draft last nite either 'cause of the BET Awards, I was dissapointed that the Bulls had no picks, here's the breakdown of the draft: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2005/ne...tory?id=2096471 "Utah 7-footer becomes Bucks' stopper Associated Press NEW YORK -- It sure was a g'day for Andrew Bogut. And not a bad night for the NCAA champions from North Carolina. 2005 NBA Draft Day Trades • Utah traded its first-round (No. 6 and No. 27) draft picks and a provisional 2006 first-round draft pick to Portland for the Trail Blazers first-round (No. 3) draft pick. Utah selected G Deron Williams No. 3. Portland selected G Martell Webster No. 6 and F Linas Kleiza No. 27. • Cleveland traded F Jiri Welsch to Milwaukee for a 2006 second-round draft pick. • Denver traded the rights to G Jarrett Jack (No. 22) to Portland for the rights to F Linas Kleiza (No. 27) and F Ricky Sanchez (No. 35). • Seattle traded the rights to F Lawrence Roberts (No. 55) to Memphis for a 2006 second-round pick, a 2007 second-round pick and cash considerations. • New York traded F-C Kurt Thomas and the rights to G Dijon Thompson (No. 54) to Phoenix for G-F Quentin Richardson and the rights to G Nate Robinson (No. 21). • Orlando traded the rights to C Martynas Andriuskevicius (No. 44) to Cleveland for a 2006 second-round draft pick. Bogut, a 7-foot center from Australia, was chosen No. 1 Tuesday night in the NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks, becoming the first player in five years with U.S. college experience to be drafted No. 1 overall. Four players from North Carolina were chosen among the first 14 picks on a night when the usual avalanche of trades was only a trickle by the time the first round ended. The 20-year-old Bogut, who played two seasons at Utah and was the college player of the year, straightened his tie, adjusted his suit jacket and took a deep breath in the moments before commissioner David Stern summoned him to the podium onstage at Madison Square Garden. When his name was called, Bogut raised a clenched right fist. Utah became the first school to have players picked first in both the NBA and NFL drafts in the same year. Quarterback Alex Smith was drafted No. 1 by the San Francisco 49ers in April. Milwaukee had been debating whether to take Bogut or North Carolina small forward Marvin Williams with the franchise's first overall No. 1 pick since 1994, when the Bucks selected Glenn Robinson. In the end, the lure of a versatile, athletic 7-footer with Olympic experience was too much to pass up. "I was confident, but I wasn't 100 percent," Bogut said. "Now that I'm here, it's a great honor." The Atlanta Hawks chose Williams second, and the 19-year-old player flashed a bright smile at Stern while shaking the commissioner's hand. The 6-foot-9 small forward was a sixth man for the Tar Heels. Illinois junior point guard Deron Williams went third to the Jazz, who sent three first-round picks -- Nos. 6 and 27 in this year's draft, plus a 2006 first-round pick -- to the Trail Blazers earlier Tuesday. Williams went No. 2 overall despite not starting for UNC. In other proposed trades, New York was to send center Kurt Thomas and the No. 54 overall pick to Phoenix for shooting guard Quentin Richardson and point guard Nate Robinson of Washington, who was selected 21st. The Knicks also selected 30th, giving them three first-round picks. New Orleans selected fourth and also chose a playmaker, picking Wake Forest sophomore guard Chris Paul, and the Charlotte Bobcats took North Carolina junior point guard Raymond Felton at No. 5. It marked the first time since 1999 that three point guards were picked among the top 10. High school senior Martell Webster of Seattle Prep went No. 6 to Portland, making him the first prep player taken in a draft notable for its historical significance. It likely marked the final time high school players would be eligible to jump directly to the pros -- the route chosen by Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, LeBron James, Jermaine O'Neal and others. Under terms of the new six-year collective bargaining agreement to take effect in July, high school players will have to wait one year after their class graduates to become draft eligible. The new agreement also reduces the length of guaranteed contracts for first-round picks from three years to two, with teams holding options for additional years. Even with the reduced length of his first deal, Bogut will become a millionaire the moment he signs with the Bucks. "It's one of the best days of my life, and my family's," Bogut said. "I am going to be a workhorse." Connecticut sophomore forward Charlie Villanueva was chosen seventh by the Toronto Raptors, and the Knicks addressed their need for a big man by taking Arizona center Channing Frye -- the first college senior selected -- with the No. 8 pick. Arizona State junior Ike Diogu went ninth to Golden State, and 7-foot high school senior Andrew Bynum of St. Joseph's High School in Metuchen, N.J., went 10th to the Los Angeles Lakers. "Wow, man, I get to play with Kobe Bryant and get coached by Phil Jackson!" said Bynum, who was seated in the stands at Madison Square Garden rather than in the so-called green room near the main stage where most top prospects waited to hear their names called. "I'm looking forward to palm trees and Jack Nicholson." Orlando selected center Fran Vasquez of the Spanish club Unicaja Malaga at No. 11, and the Los Angeles Clippers chose 18-year-old forward Yaroslav Korolev of the Russian club CSKA Moscow at No. 12. North Carolina forward Sean May went No. 13 to Charlotte, and Tar Heels guard Rashad McCants went No. 14 to Minnesota with the final pick among lottery teams. It was the first time since 1999, when Duke did it, that four players from one school were selected in the first round. Antoine Wright of Texas A&M went 15th to the New Jersey Nets, who were in need of a power forward but instead chose a swingman who can back up Richard Jefferson at small forward and Vince Carter at shooting guard. Toronto selected Oklahoma State forward Joey Graham with the 16th pick, adding another big man to play alongside franchise cornerstone Chris Bosh. An aptly named Gerald Green fell into the Celtics lap. New Mexico forward Danny Granger went 17th to Indiana, and Gerald Green -- projected in most mock drafts to be the first high schooler taken -- went to Boston at No. 18. "We were shocked, to be honest, that he was at 18," Boston coach Doc Rivers said. "It was a no-brainer once we saw he was there." Syracuse senior Hakim Warrick was chosen 19th by Memphis, Denver selected N.C. State guard Julius Hodge at No. 20 to fill a hole at shooting guard, then picked Georgia Tech point guard Jarrett Jack two spots later. Jack was dealt to Portland for the 27th and 35th picks. "It's a total surprise to me -- even when the trade rumors started when I was walking backstage, and I was still in total shock," Jack said. I just got word of it, and I'm happy with it." The NBA champion San Antonio Spurs selected French forward Ian Mahinmi at No. 28. He was one of seven international players to be chosen in the first round. Players from Slovenia, Serbia-Montenegro, Turkey, Belgium, France and Croatia were a large contingent of foreign players chosen in the second round. "Basketball is a global game, just like soccer is a global game," Bogut said. "You see the Manu Ginobilis and Yao Mings of the world. We can play the game in every country." Six high school seniors were taken in the second round. Lithuanian center Martynas Andriuskevicius, projected by many as a first-round pick, lasted until midway through the second round when Orlando selected him 44th overall. The Detroit Pistons made the final pick more than 4 hours after Bogut was chosen, selecting guard Alex Acker of Pepperdine."
  7. It's nice to see Will give props to Common and Mos Def for putting it down even though they don't make it on 106 & Park, it shows that he recognizes talented artists even when they ain't that popular, I wish he'd give more props to underground rappers too that're working hard to keep the essence of hip-hop alive of being role models for the people that listen to them 'cause when Will speaks, people listen.
  8. Yeah the NBA draft's on tonight, I'm probably gonna "switch" back and forth between BET and ESPN all night so I could cheer on the Bulls and JJFP/Jada!
  9. I'm not worrying about the sales and neither is Will, let's just enjoy the performances and everything'll take care of itself, with JJFP being the greatest performers in hip-hop history people'll buy the albums, wait and see! :jazzy:

  11. wtf 50 Cent and Mike Jones still in the top 20? Well hopefully after the BET and Live 8 performances, he'll surpass them.
  12. I agree with fuq, it gets kinda annoying to hear the media say that Will's a "squeaky clean rapper" 'cause he ain't the only rapper out there not cursing in his rhymes, people don't call Rakim a "squeaky clean rapper" but the albums he did with Eric B. including the one of the greatest albums ever "Paid In Full" had no PA stickers on them either, but they don't say that about Rakim probably 'cause he ain't as popular as Will, I think it's just jealousy by the media, I hope Will performs "I Wish I Made That" tonight, that'd be quite a statement right there! :chuks:
  13. Thanks for the pics, oh damn he is going grey though, lol.
  14. We could chat when a wack rapper comes on to perform too! :lolsign:
  15. :yeahthat: Schnazz droppin' some knowledge there! Hey y'all I think the lyrics to "I Wish I Made That" is relevant to this post: "Yo, ain’t no better man for this hype track Just the veteran taking the mic back David Letterman even said he like that track man Even though he ain’t a rap fan Black radio, they won’t play though Ever since “Summertime” they ain’t liked none of mine Even though the fans went out & bought enough I guess they think Will ain’t hard enough Maybe I should just have a shoot out Run up in the bank, bustin’, grabbin’ all the loot out Whoop somebody ass, taking my boot out Right on TV so ya’ll can see me Just ignorant, attacking, actin’ rough I mean, then will I be black enough Oh wait maybe I’ll jack a truck Full of cigarettes, guns & drugs & stuff CHORUS – (2xs) Get that I wish I would of made that Lean back I wish I would of made that I wish I woulda told the girls to ‘drop it like it hot’ Summer, Summer, Summertime Seem like all I got I always envied how ya’ll rock wit Dre & the Chronic The way that Tupac, Biggie, 50 and Jigga got it A lot like L.L., Chuck D, Slick & Dougie I think ya’ll love me, but ya’ll place other rappers above me & I don’t know if you feel my flow & be at my show & you’ll see where I should go On the charts of rhyme arts & thoughts in rap form Damnit, I expanded the platform Damnit, this Cat’s on a rap song Yeah, it ain’t no braids or plats on Ain’t on stage wit no gats on You know I’m afraid, getting’ my act on It might have stunted my growth But I wanted them both & I hope that it would be less tougher You do two things & then they both gonna suffer I chose to act & it broke my heart not to rap Prodigal son, clever, better than ever, back"
  16. Thanks for posting that mimi, Will gives some great advice, I wish more peeps would pay more attention to the knowledge he gives.
  17. It ain't Dr. Dre's fault, he's a great artist, it's the million people who try to copy Dr. Dre instead of being original is the ones I blame, you should be yourself if you wanna make it, I don't wanna be the next Chuck D, Will Smith, or Dr. Dre, I just wanna be myself, but not many people think like that. This reminds me of what I was reading in a book called "Where You're At?": "I'm talking to Bobbito Garcia, one of the most celbrated hip-hop DJs in New York. Bobbito, with his parner Lord Sear, is the host of CM famalam on WKCR but is best known for his show with Stretch Armstrong that just about spanned the 90s between WKCR and Hot 97. a member of the Rock Steady crew(the original B-Boy crew), in his time Bobbito has been a professional bsketball player(in Puerto Rico), a journalist for the likes of Vibe and The Source and head of the respected Fondle 'Em label, and he's a DJ who's in demand the world over. “Look”, he sighs. “When people say hip-hop is dead it just shows they're not in touch. People talk about the elements of hip-hop culture, but, I tell you, in any period of hip-hop, the best stuff always had to be searched for. That's why I say that search and discovery is the most neglected element of hip-hop.” But these days hip-hop is a global buisiness... “So? Just because hip-hop is accessible globally, that doesn't make it good. But people can always find a way to hear good music. I can't tell you the number of places I've gone where they know my show, through the Internet or their friends making tapes or whatever. It's just about good music. If people want to listen to Jay-Z, they can. If people want to listen to my show, they can. Everybody has choices and nobody has to listen to anything they don't want to.”
  18. 50 Cent stepping to Pac in a battle would be more dumb than when Cannibus tried to knock off LL Cool J 'cause at least he had some talent, new rappers coming out shouldn't battle veteran mcs, I don't think 50 Cent would be that stupid to battle Pac 'cause he ain't dissin' Will Smith or KRS-ONE even though he disses a lot of mcs, he knows not to diss a real legend and Pac wouldn't waste time battlin' those wack rappers in the 1st place.
  19. :word: The public doesn't know any better so you can't really blame them, I realise that after I think about it 'cause it ain't there fault that they only want to listen to what's advertised, instead of searching for something else that isn't advertised, I think these independent artists are very talented and if they had the same promotion as 50 cent they'd have successful careers but major labels don't sign them and sign only ones that sound like 50 cent 'cause that's the majority of what they hear on the radio so they rap like him, 10-15 years ago you'd have all kinds of different styles on a major label but since "The Chronic" came out, gangsta rappers became the majority signed on major labels, there's 1000 50 cents and eminem for every Will Smith and LL Cool J on major labels now, the problem would be fixed if there was more variety out there.
  20. I also find it kinda disturbing too that black radio hasn't supported Will as much as they should've who's been a positive role model for blacks and embraced gangsta rappers like 50 Cent that set a bad example, we can blame the people all we want but I think the media should be blamed too, if they played more positive rap on black radio, maybe 50 Cent and Eminem would sell less and Will Smith and De La Soul would sell more.
  21. Well those pics don't show everyone that's scheduled for performing so it's still a possibility that JJFP are performing there.
  22. :word: This ain't nothin' new really, most of the people who buy albums are white, that's been like that ever since hip-hop crossed over, whether it's gangsta, conscious, mainstream, or underground hip-hop, hip-hop is universal, if only black people bought hip-hop albums it wouldn't be popular anymore, but the point is how many blacks have sold out from buying the rap about their culture where they could learn something and just buy the ignorant fake gangsta crap that makes them ignorant like Tim just said, which I find kinda disturbing myself.
