  1. Yeah! A ten would suggest its a classic. An album that the majority of the hip hop community like! I dont think this is the case with L&F! Don't get me wrong its a blinding album but I wouldn't say a 10 out of 10! Well the majority of the hip-hop community hasn't really shown that much love to ol' school rappers except Dr. Dre and KRS-ONE, I can't believe how much criticism LL's last few albums have gotten, how many rappers does he have to slay to get the props he deserves? :confused3: If Jay-Z or Eminem made this album or Kanye West produced it, people would call it an instant classic, even if Jazzy Jeff produced it, people'd still criticise it 'cause they hate ol' school rappers and worship Eminem and Jay-Z, but one day they'll be considered ol' school too, "Lost and Found" has gotten about as much props as KRS-ONE's recent ones have gotten in the hip-hop community, there's always a few people that don't like them and want them to hang up their mics 'cause they don't like ol' school rap, so I don't take their criticism to heart. :afro:
  2. Happy B-Day! :antlers: :birthday:
  3. DJ Hi-Tek and Talib Kweli feat. Xzibit and Rah Digga "Down For The Count" :ali:
  4. Will Smith "I Wish I Made That/Swagga"
  5. I personally don't see nothin' wrong wit Will sayin' that 'cause he's a caring father and would tell his kids that music is just entertainment but I find it kinda odd that he'd say this after sayin' a few years ago in an interview: "Why is it so important to keep it clean? -To me theirs two issues. Number one rap music like movies is not kept away from children. There's not the ratings system to keep them from certain sections of the store. Rap music, people can act like its not, but rap music is for kids. You know its completely directed at children and impressionable minds and I just think it's dangerous to pump that kind of cavalier misogyny and hatred in young minds. A big part of it is a lot of the artists that are doing it are young too. You know so their people that haven't even really developed their point of view of life and are thrust into a position where their role models and their up on stage and can rile people up to do things and I got kids I don't want em listening to that trash." On that note though most parents don't care if their kids listen to explicit versions of the albums and that's when there's a big problem, so Will's doing the right thing by letting his kids listen to edited versions of albums, but they're gonna gradually hear cursing anyway so I don't see the difference, as long as you raise your kid right it's all good! :blabla:
  6. This verse from Rakim's "I Ain't No Joke" is one of my all-time favorites, he was only 16 when he wrote this: "I ain't no joke, I use to let the mic smoke Now I slam it when I'm done and make sure it's broke When I'm gone, no on gets on, cause I won't let nobody press up, and mess up, the scene I set I like to stand in the crowd, and watch the people wonder "Damn!" But think about it, then you'll understand I'm just an addict, addicted to music Maybe it's a habit, I gotta use it Even if it's jazz or the quiet storm I hook a beat up, convert it into hip-hop form Write a rhyme in grafitti and, every show you see me in Deep concentration, cause I'm no comedian Jokers are wild, if you wanna be tamed I treat you like a child, then you're gonna be named Another enemy, not even a friend of me Cause you'll get fried in the end, when you pretend to be competing, cause I just put your mind on pause And I complete when, you compare my rhyme with yours I wake you up and as I stare in your face you seem stunned Remember me? The one you got your idea from But soon you start to suffer, the tune'll get rougher When you start to stutter, that's when you had enough of biting it'll make you choke, you can't provoke You can't cope, you shoulda broke, because I ain't no joke"
  7. That "Switch" performance was the best performance of the night, the crowd was also lovin' "Party Starter" too! :afro:
  8. The Source sucks, I wouldn't buy it unless they put Will on the cover. :poke:
  9. That's cool man I was just curious that's all! :peace:
  10. Here's Chuck D's verse on "Timebomb" from Public Enemy's "Yo! Bum Rush The Show" album, this rhyme structure's way ahead of it's time: "You go ooh and ahh when I jump in my car People treat me like Kareem Abdul Jabbar No matter who you are - when I'm up to par I betcha go hip hop - hurray or hurrah But the ahhs and ohhs is my kind of news Pop your tape in - put your car in cruise I never heard the boos - I never drank booze Cause I just rock the rhythm - left alone the blues The L.I. mystique - you sneak to peek A look and then you know that we're never weak I know you can't wait - it's never too late No fear I'm here - and everything is straight Cycles, cycles - life runs in cycles New is old - no I'm not no psycho The monkey on the back makes the best excel The people in the crowd makes the best rock well The people in the back lets you know who's whack And those who lack - the odds are stacked The one who makes the money is white not black You might not believe it but it is like that When you come to my show - watch me throw Down with the other brothers toe to toe When you make a move - new not used And watch the bro here just bust a groove A fat lady soprano - loads my ammo Hear my jam - with a funky piano Easy on the wall but hard on the panel A fool smokes Kools cause he chokes on Camels In effect - the crew's in check Run by the posse with the gold around the neck Homeboys in heat - lookin' for sweet Ladies in the crowd so they can meet Somebody to body - makin' a baby Givin' it to grandma an' makin' her crazy I'm a MC protector - U.S. defector South African government wrecker Panther power - you can feel it in my arm Lookout y'all I'm a timebomb Tickin', tockin', all about rockin' Makin' much dollars while the crazy one's clockin' The rhythm - to shake the house downy down Bounce to the ounce is sound the crown The man - the enemy - Public King - no thing All fall to the force of my swing Like Ali - Frazier - Thriller in Manila A pinpoint point blank microphone killer am I No need to lie - got the Flavor Flave To prove I'll win and if not the save I'll pick up, rack up - put your whole shack up Just choose to lose the bet - emcee stick up This is the wiz - but the mike's not his, it's mine One time let the star shine And I'm tellin' you - yelling at you you're through Don't think you're grown cause your moustache grew I'm number one - you know it weighs a ton And I'll be the burger - you can be the bun, girl Surroundin' - my steady poundin' Get on down to my funky sound And rock the rhythm rhyme - one time your mind Rhythm roll - two times control The mauler and the caller of your doom And when I'm ready to leave - you're gonna know I go boom Three times y'all - rhythm rhyme and rock Then you'll that the D is on the block Four times y'all and never ever the whack It's the hour to the minute - time to blow BLACK"
  11. "Lost and Found" is basically on the same level as "Code Red" not "Born To Reign", since it's a hip-hop masterpeice and arguably his best solo release, we could probably still be able to listen to it 10 years from now.
  12. Well a lot of the albums that the Source give 4/5 mics to are mostly overhyped except for "Illmatic" and a couple others, Will don't need no help from the critics, he's doing a'ight on his own right now
  13. Hey there's no footage of Jazzy Jeff performing live? I know he's been doing a lot of solo performances over the years and I'd love to see some of them too.
  14. Well you could say the performances are helping "Switch" get more airplay since it's climbing but ain't helping "Lost and Found" out much, but if he's out performing it's all good, the most important thing is to make sure the fans are entertained! :afro:
  15. You could say LL was one of the 1st rappers to act if you consider Eminem acting in "8 Mile" when he played himself in "Krush Groove", one of the original hip-hop films that featured him, Run-Dmc, Kurtis Blow, Fat Boys, Beastie Boys, New Edition, and Shiela E., I actually think that the Fat Boys were the 1st hip-hop artists to actually be featured in a motion picture when they did "The Disorderlies", even though the movie's kinda corny(still better than Ja Rule acting though, lol), you could say they opened doors for rappers. MC Hammer did other endorsement deals too like Pepsi and a couple others I forget, maybe AJ might know, regardless though he did a lot to make hip-hop a billion dollar buisiness, and I don't see nothin' wrong with advertising toothpaste, it's better than advertising liquor like mostly every rapper does, tell our kids to be alcoholics, yeah that's keepin' it real! :mad8:
  16. Slick Rick's alive and doing well still, hopefully he comes out with a new album soon, but I do find it distubing and insulting that dead rappers get more props than rappers alive, anyways on a lighter note, I love this song "Me & Nas Bring It To Your Hardest" on "The Art Of Storytellin'", that album was slept on, it should've gone at least platinum: Finally, a change from these fake rap artists [Rick] Me and Nas bring it to your hardest Finally, real niggaz that are Billboard charters [Rick] Me and Nas bring it to your hardest [slick Rick] Skills provide the shows, also fright the foes And when I step into a room, pimps hide they hoes "Is that really him?" "Yes, that's his Highness and for the last time stop lookin at his fine ass" (Y'know!) Homosexuals, smirk, converse and say "That nigga box is WORKIN girlfriend!" You wanna talk about a fat phrase carrier to billionaire white chick jump the race barrier? You know a nice girl, but I didn't want a bit of her Sayin, "I like your slang what's with the wife, get rid of her" Son, Sony talkin Japanese with mice like, "Whattup Rick? You can have my cheese kid" I am such a heavy hitter even chandalier jealous off the patch ice glitter (bling!) Rappers walkin round, strappin fearsome, HERE SON and remember your rap career's done Finally, a change from these fake rap artists [Rick] Me and Nas bring it to your hardest Finally, real niggaz that are Billboard charters [Rick] Me and Nas bring it to your hardest Finally, we'll seperate the men from the heartless [Rick] Me and Nas bring it to your hardest Finally, a tag team from the top all-starters [Rick] Me and Nas bring it to your hardest [Nas] Runnin spots, pants leg tucked in my socks Puff and lay a spread, order drinks, Henn on the rocks Wintertime sport a fox, maybe a sable Three-quarter length mink sound right for this occasion Heard me John Blazin, see me in gangster flicks Life is so amazin, hate to be paperless Bill Gate in this, it must be God, I'm not a atheist Wanted like kingpins by ATF Your girl want my name on her chest Me and Rick argue about whose chain is the best Gucci boxers, my diet changed from sushi to pastas Wear my hat like the late Sinatra's Models pop the coochie when the spot us Finally rappers you could be proud of, from the Bronx to Queensbridge Houses WHAT? If you feel me then holla Thug niggaz, who bail be worth a million dollars, what Finally, a change from these fake rap artists [Rick] Me and Nas bring it to your hardest Finally, real niggaz that are Billboard charters [Rick] Me and Nas bring it to your hardest Finally, we'll seperate the men from the heartless [Rick] Me and Nas bring it to your hardest Finally, a tag team from the top all-starters [Rick] Me and Nas bring it to your hardest Trackmasters.. Def Jam.. Baby what the deal [Rick] Slick Rick, Big Nas yo"
  17. Well Reggie's career finally over, that's good news for the Bulls next year, lol! :kekeke: In all seriousness though, he played his heart and I was pulling for him to lead the Pacers to the championship 'cause he was a class act.
  18. Well Eminem needs help writing his lyrics 'cause his lyrics are wack, he should have me write him songs. :hilarious: I think Will doesn't even have to write any of his lyrics anymore 'cause all the lyrics he wrote on the JJFP albums proves that he's an all-time great lyricist and his flow is uncomparable, he coulda just retired after "Code Red" and still be considered an all-time great 'cause that was his best work anyway, cats could write rhymes all day but they can't bring the energy Will can, I think the reason why he uses co-writers is 'cause he takes too much time off of music doing movies and he might need help sounding current, that's why I think he should take more time off movies and put more focus into his albums, Jeff should lock him in the studio and just do ol' school hip-hop rhymes and not try to sound current, and I wouldn't mind if he quit doing movies either. Not many rappers have made classics like "Homebase", "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper", and "Code Red", so if they talk s*** about Will not writing all of his lyrics that's irrelevant, and if Kel Spencer is really more talented than Will, why can't he make an album? Kel Spencer's flow is weak compared to Will's that's why, he should just stick to writing while Will sticks to being an mc, which mean move the crowd like Rakim once said.
  19. I was just listening to KRS-ONE's "Mc's Act Like They Don't Know", this song is slept on, this verse is nasty: "If you don't know me by now I doubt you'll ever know me I never won a Grammy, I won't win a Tony But I'm not the only MC keepin' it real When I grab the mic to smash a rapper, girls go "Illlll!" Check the time as I rhyme, it's 1995 Whenever I arrive the party gets liver Flow with the master rhymer, that's to leave behind The video rapper, you know, the chart climber Clapper, down goes another rapper Onto another matter, punch up the data, Blastmaster Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everybody Call up KRS, I'm guaranteed to rip a party Flat top, braids, bald heads or natty dread There once was a story about a man named Jed But now Jed is dead, all his kids instead Want to kick rhymes off the top of they head Word, what go around come around I figure Now we got white kids callin' themselves niggas The tables turned as the crosses burned Remember You Must Learn About the styles I flip and how wild I get I go on like a space age rocket ship You could be a mack, a pimp, hustler or player But make sure live you is a dope rhyme sayer"
  20. Yeah Hieroglyphics got some great punchlines, I love this verse that Pep Love did on "Fight Club": "I paint pictures with my scriptures it grabs ya and it grips ya and takes ya on adventures to dimensions I can't even begin to explain I tantalize your senses with sentences since it's senseless to attempt this my plan to rise is endless i'm generally known to be off the hinges with a microphone with me ya wanna fight? come on hit me, I ain't gon stop beating that ass until the cops come get me refuse verbal abuse to cook your goose I serve superb turbulence, when I get loose the beat get battered and bruised you nerds get hit from every direction after the herb gets lit who wanna come? can test me now let's get down (get on up) and get the mess beat outta you pesky clown ass pathetic competitors won't last around after I blast a round, at ya casket cats get disfigured and eat a fist f****n with this nigga when I'm pissed and even when I'm feelin bliss it'll be an unworthy risk to disturb me cuz I'm impervious to the words you speak I split nucleus's when I shoot the gift it's ridiculous to dispute me if you don't wanna shoot me, just watch me do my duty my rap slaps your ear like sticks, pucks and hockey I don't give a big f*** at all about all your jewelry and tomfoolery you can get the balls if you don't wanna be cool with me we can brawl we do it every weekend yall, at the fight club"
  21. This verse is from LL Cool J's "Murdergram", one of the most slept on songs he's done: "The big showdown the display is skill I'm the type of Picasso witcha girl on the pill Take a family snap shot kiss ya wife Cause I'm like a knife, the concrete is right And I'll take ya life and take ya like python I'ma do you wrong Any emcee who you wanna name? I want pain that I can be tamed Talkin about guns punk it don't alarm me Got enough cash to make a whole damn army I can't hold back the way that I feel Cause when I bust a rhyme it's like ya slippin off banana peels Ya like fruit cake ya fruit cocktails First your title now I'm takin your female All of a sudden you're so proud of a black A baseball hat but you ain't sayin jack The ripper is back and you can't escape Cause one of my records will sell more than your whole tape I want beef so bring on the rookies I got more than just Cool J cookies Rip Rock, crush, stop, cop, I'm poison come and take a drop I bet ya teeth will end up around the corner kid Don't ask me why I did it I'm civilized damage to a nobody And I'm carrying a gun if I'm rhyming at the party New York, Chicago, Detroit, LA I'll slay wherever ya play D.C. or Philly, or Baltimore I'm worrying the rich, invading the poor Perpetrating in your video, here's the real smoothing Country accents, who do you think you're foolin? 22. Well I'm hoping that this album sells well 'cause it's a great album, but most great albums don't sell much anyway, I just'd like to see Will do well and get the props he deserves and knock some of these overrated rappers off the charts, deep down though I honestly don't care about sales and am just enjoying the great work he's done.
  23. Run-DMC were the 1st rap artists to have a sneaker deal with Adidas, MC Hammer sold his own toothpaste, LL Cool J was the 1st rapper to start appearing in films. Hey I like some new school hip-hop too don't get that twisted either, but I give props to ol' school cats mostly.
  24. Slick Rick is the ruler of hip-hop without a doubt, he's the most sampled rapper, and his storytellin' is incredible, "Great Adventures Of Slick Rick" is one of the best albums ever made "Teenage Love" "Hey Young World" and "The Ruler's Back" are my favorite tracks on there, that's the type of album you could make a movie too, I'd suggest to you reborn2reign to get "The Art Of Storytellin'" for some new school Slick Rick flava.
  25. Damn I forget the name of the DJ but I remember them playing "Summertime" at the start of the show! :thumb:
