  1. Well like Chuck D has said many times there needs to be a proper hip-hop hall of fame in order so that the true pioneers of hip-hop could get the props that they deserve.
  2. BBD "Thought It Was Me(BBD)", my favorite BBD song of all time, could never get tired of it
  3. Well he should be nominated for best rapper next year after "Tell Me Why" comes out, that's good to see that he's nominated for best actor even though he might not win.
  4. That's dope news, I'm gonna check out for it! :afro:
  5. Was that neccessary? :poke: i agree with u Braces. i tnink Born 2 Reign was the most creative album. sometimes taking a risk and tryin 2 be creative with different styles doesn't always work so well, but there's no denying that it was his most creative album even tho it's my least favorite solo album I'd still bump "Born To Reign" more than any Jay-Z album except "Reasonable Doubt", I could say half of "Born To Reign" album is hotter than anything I've heard from Jay-Z in recent years, btw his Volume 3 album is garbage, anything you could say that Jay-Z has done original I bet I could say another rapper's done it before, even though he's been arguably the best mc out on the commercial scene at the moment, until "Lost and Found" has dropped! :poke:
  6. Justo Faison, Founder Of Annual Mixtape Awards, Killed In Car Crash 05.16.2005 9:18 AM EDT Hip-hop promoter who began honoring mixtapes in 1995 was 36 years old. Justo Faison (file) Photo: Ray Tamarra/Getty Images The hip-hop world was dealt a crushing blow over the weekend by the news that Justo Faison — who founded the annual Mixtape Awards back in 1995 — had been killed in a car accident on Friday night. Faison's sport utility vehicle ran off of a highway in Richmond, Virginia, striking a guardrail before flipping over and slamming into a tree. According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Faison, a 36-year-old New York resident whose real first name was Orpheous, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the crash occurred around 1:12 a.m., when Faison's 1998 Lincoln Navigator ran off the left side of Interstate 64, just west of state Route 716. Faison founded the annual Mixtape Awards, which acknowledged the efforts of innovative underground hip-hop, R&B and reggae DJs nationwide. This year's ceremony, held in New York on March 9, honored Bad Boy Records boss Sean "P. Diddy" Combs for his notable achievements as a hip-hop producer, as well as his contributions to the genre (see "Mixtape Awards To Honor P. Diddy As Top Executive "). The event featured performances from Kanye West and Cuban Link (see "Jadakiss Named Artist Of The Year At Mixtape Awards"). Faison was also a renowned rap record promoter, who held positions at Nervous, Atlantic and Epic Records over the course of his career.
  7. The Rev. Run to Star in Reality Show NEW YORK - The Rev. Run is in the house. "Run's House," a reality show featuring the Rev. Run of Run DMC, his wife, Justine, and their five children, will premiere later this year on MTV, the network announced Monday. The show will give viewers "an inside look at the lives of hip-hop royalty," Brian Graden, president of entertainment, MTV Music Group, said Monday. The air date for the first show wasn't announced. In "Run's House," the Rev. Run, whose real name is Joey Simmons, must balance recording his first solo album with raising five children, ages 9 to 21. "My family is my ministry," he said in a statement. "I'm gonna raise it up with or without cameras. But I'm excited to do it on MTV." Sean "P. Diddy" Combs and Russell Simmons, brother of the Rev. Run, are among the executive producers. Both Simmons brothers live in Saddle River, N.J. Russell Simmons described the show as "`Father Knows Best' on steroids." "Rev. Run is ... one of the most interesting individuals I know." Combs said. "He's going to show the world what hip-hop family life is really like."
  8. Well all I was saying was those who set good example in society should get more credit for what they do, why can't we hear a KRS-ONE song on the radio instead of 50 Cent 'cause KRS' a man that stands by what he says on his songs, 50's a fake, even if he is a drug addict, he shouldn't brag about it so much, kids believe what they hear on the radio, he's not a good example for the youth, at least 2Pac released songs like "Keep Ya Head Up" and that situation was a gold-digger comin' after him but when that happened his sales soared, people should've listened to Pac when he was doing "Keep Ya Head Up", I'm a fan of Pac myself, I wasn't tryin' to diss him when I said that, I was just questioning why doesn't society focus on the good things that he did, they'd do nothin' but criticize him, then everyone got curious to buy his albums, he had a good heart and I didn't like how the media dogged him when some women do deserve to be called hoes by the way they act but some women deserve respect, some rappers don't respect women at all, but when LL and Will show love to women they get called soft, btw I read a lot of interviews from 50's and I never saw anything about him saying he's drug-free.
  9. Well all I gotta say is cats like LL, KRS-ONE, Chuck D, and Will Smith should get more respect for not "allegedy" getting accused of any domestic charges, they're the only ones keepin' it real!
  10. Great news! btw, I saw "Switch" on BET today! :thumb:
  11. :werd: I know that you're a female mimi, don't you feel offended? It's messed up that rappers who disrespect women in their songs and call them hoes get the most street cred and rappers like Will and LL that try to show love to women get called soft. :mad8: And even 2Pac didn't sell that much albums until he went to jail, then his record sales went through the roof, society doesn't make sense! :confused3:
  12. Will's albums are like movies too, more like Disney movies, but it seems that the only rappers that get respect are the ones that make Steven King movies for their albums, if Will cursed a few times and put drug and alcohol references in some of his songs and called "Freakin' It" "F****n' It", he'd be played on black radio as much as Jay-Z! :hilarious: What Will talked about in that "Big Willie Style" album is his real life, he makes 20 million a film, so of course he's living large and deserves to boast about it, other rappers that make less money do it get more street cred, it doesn't make sense to me! :poke: I think that Columbia ruined Will's image, he'd been better off retiring from making albums and sticking to movies, I really think he won't stop getting criticism until he does another album with Jazzy Jeff, it'd be nice if "Lost and Found" is his last solo album that'd be a nice way to usher in a new JJFP album, "I Wish I Made That" is a must to be released now! Remember though "Big Willie Style" was released around the time that Biggie and 2Pac were murdered so Will didn't wanna come with something too hard at that time, he wanted to make the music lighter in the somber times of hip-hop, but every rapper samples, even Jay-Z, this is hip-hop, it's known for sampling. There's nothin' wrong with braggin' either I love Jigga's "Love The Doe" about as much as I love FP's "Y'all Know", hip-hop's a braggin' art, I personally feel that FP has better punchlines than Jigga that's all, you shouldn't have to rap about the streets if you don't live in the streets anymore, it's good to keep the reminiscing to a minimum when you're a hip-hop vet and keep the themes current, look at "Lost and Found", "Scary Story" was the only song FP rapped about his childhood, he raps about his life now mostly but usually gets knocked for that, I don't understand why?! :confused3:
  13. Well Will's the only one of few mcs that're "keepin' it real", a lot of rappers talk about how they're still in the streets but they're rich as hell, 50 Cent ain't the only one, but I feel these cats should stop frontin' and rap about what their life's really like not put on a fake stunt for record sales.
  14. I don't get why Will doesn't sign more artists, he has the money to get his label going in a strong direction.
  15. :cwm: Hey man I got no problem with Jay-Z but I ain't gonna say he's a legend, there's a thin line between good mcs and legendary mcs, he's a good mc at best, Nas is the closest mc out now to becoming a legendary mc, JJFP and LL Cool J have set the standard for commercial rappers and I don't see Jay-Z doing anything differently than what anyone else is doing and I'm gonna stick to that opinion and there's only a handful of albums that are definite classics like "Paid In Full", "Mama Said Knock You Out", "Criminal Minded", "Raising Hell", "It Takes A Nation Of Millions...", and "He's The DJ..."(people don't give JJFP enough credit for this album, they earned the 1st rap Grammy and Chuck D says so himself) so "Reasonable Doubt" is not in that class, it wasn't even the best album in '96, "All Eyez On Me" was, which I feel was truely the last classic album in hip-hop. Look man it's all love go play your Jay-Z man, I'm gonna bump some more KRS-ONE! :peace:
  16. Here's an example of Jigga's materialistic rhymes, check out "Jigga That N***": Roc-A-Fella y'all [Jay] It's the Roc! Jigga, Jigga, that nigga Jigga [Jay] R.O., R.O.C. niggaz, R.O. R.O.C. niggaz (Roc-A-Fella y'all!)"
  17. Hey I was sayin' "99 Problems" was the only song that he attempted to be creative from the recent singles of his, but that ain't as aggressive as "F*** The Police", and other than that he's doing the same s*** as every other pop rapper with club anthems like "Change Clothes", "Just Wanna Love Ya", "Big Pimpin'", "Izzo", "Dirt Off Your Shoulder", and "La-La-La" that sound similiar to the club anthems that Will has released in recent years that keep his recent albums from being classic, so I feel the same should be with Jay-Z, he shouldn't criticize Will for not making reality based music when he doesn't always do that himself, I prefer Will's club bangers over his too 'cause he brings more energy than Jigga does, I wouldn't waste my money on his recent s***, I bought his 1st few albums which I rarely listen to now except "Reasonable Doubt" but since 2000 I haven't really been feeling him, I downloaded a lot of his stuff and borrowed "The Blueprint" from the library and it's nothin' impressive. That term classic gets throws around too easily, there's no way "The Black Album" could be a classic with a garbage song like "Change Clothes" and there's no way "Blueprint" could be a classic with a garbage song like "Izzo", to be a classic every song has to be great, he has some good songs on his albums and some forgettable songs, every rapper could make good songs, but he doesn't hold weight compared to what JJFP, PE, and KRS-ONE have done, legends make great songs. I haven't seen Jigga release a single as personal as Will's "Just The Two Of Us" and "1000 Kisses" yet, so I don't think he should criticize Will for not making reality music, but it's dope that he acknowledges Will as a hip-hop pioneer and I'd prefer him over most pop rappers today but in no way would I say that he's better than even Nas 'cause Nas releases powerful songs like "One Mic" and "Just A Moment", "99 Problems" is garbage compared to them.
  18. Well Jay-Z has fans stick with him 'cause he does the same thing over and over again, he doesn't try to be that creative with his music compared to Will, basically every one of Will's albums are different and some don't like that, they actually stick with those who don't take risks with their music,"Willenium" didn't sell as much as "Big Willie Style" 'cause it was a lil' more relaxing than "Big Willie Style" was, which people consider more of party album, if Will kept on making albums like "Big Willie Style" then he'd still sell 12 million but wouldn't get much respect in hip-hop for doing the same thing over and over, Jay-Z basically tried remaking "Reasonable Doubt" everytime he comes out so doesn't get much respect by a lot of hip-hop heads for sounding repetitive just like every pop rapper, except for when he did "Black Album" where he tried to add a rock sound to it, but the same ol' rhymes to me, Jigga does more money talk on his recent albums than Will ever did, he only did that on "Big Willie Style", he doesn't have nothin' on Run-DMC and PE when it comes to rippin' a rock track! Public Enemy, KRS-ONE, and Run-Dmc among other legends also had sales slip 'cause they experimented with their music too, they don't try to remake their classic albums from the '80s either, those who try to offer something new don't get sales.
  19. Well remember when Martin Lawrence made a movie out of his experiences at rehab? That'd be dope if Dave Chapelle did something like that.
  20. Hey Naughty By Nature was on 106 & Park the other day and Treach said he's working on a solo album and Naughty By Nature is gonna do some work with Kay Gee again in the near future! :kool: btw, I'm listening to Wyclef Jean "80 Bars"
  21. Naughty By Nature "Hip-Hop Horray" Now everybody post future listenings in What Are You Listening To? V :peace:
  22. My favorites are: Indepedence Day Bad Boys II Ali Bad Boys I Robot Men In Black I ain't gonna front, I haven't seen "Hitch" yet, but I'm gonna get the DVD when it comes out.
  23. The song's a hit, how could sampling Stevie Wonder and having Kool Moe Dee on the track along with Dru Hill be wack? However as far as the movie goes, I haven't watched that in years so I'd say it's a miss, it sucks compared to his other movies.
  24. Hey I'm not underestimating 2Pac's greatness at all when I say that but I feel that we should appreciate the legends while they are living, 2Pac didn't get the fame that he deserved while he was living, that shows you how foul this society is, if he was still living I don't think he'd either was all that I was saying, KRS-ONE and Will Smith don't get enough props that they should get in my opinion! :mad8:
