  1. Bigted, I know that you so badly want the past to come back. But reality is, it's never going to come back. What we have now is just a different flavour of hip-hop. Agreed that 90's rap was amazing and nothing can ever replace it. But then some of the present artists are also in their own individual way trying their best. Nobody is blind or anything if they see the present hip-hop and find it enjoyable. It's just that people have different tastes in rap. Rap/hip-hop is not limited to only a certain artists, but it is a wide spectrum of different varieties of talents. So real hip-hop doesn't mean it only includes KRS 1, Rakim, etc. but it can also include 50 Cent, Eminem, etc. There is nothing wrong with it. You need not be a fan or anything of the current hip-hoppers, but maybe you should try and include some of the other artists too in the hip-hop world. Don't you think? :thumb:
  2. Melle Mel is the greatest rapper? Well Kool Moe Dee says Melle Mel is the greatest rapper ever, have you ever heard "The Message", that song's living forever in hip-hop history, that's timeless. I wouldn't mind if JJFP collaborated with Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel, that'd be one collabo I'd be down for, but on the most part there should be less collabos and more JJFP material.
  3. You sir, seriously need a clue. You're downgrading the audience, because not every video out has throwback jerseys, champagne, etc. A Good video is a good video, period - stop tryin to be a hip hop purist, and enjoy music no matter who puts it out.
  4. I knew that Bad Boy Records and New Edition wasn't gonna last too long, they need to go somewhere and get more creative freedom, P.Diddy controls his artists too much. :poke:
  5. I don't think Will will be abandoning hip hop anytime soon. About him possibly releasing wack music if he starts doing films again. That has no real basis. Look at Lost and Found. Will didn't have to take a year off to focus on the album. Even while working on other projects, he was in his music, focusing, writing lyrics for Lost and Found, even while he had I, Robot and Hitch in the works. Look how well Lost and Found turned out.
  6. :werd: My thoughts exactly, if this album doesn't do well sales wise, commercial hip-hop'll remain wack, I'm hoping for the best, the essence of hip-hop is dying, somebody has to save it!
  7. Hey if we don't like the Will Smith forum that much, shouldn't we post over at Jeff's forum instead? I was lookin' over there and there's hardly any new posts, we gotta show some love to Jeff too!
  8. All the wackest s*** right now are the ones that're sellin', the best single in hip-hop this year has been Nas' "Just A Moment" but it didn't even hit the top 40, Will ain't gonna sell 5 million unless he has a video with rims, girls in thongs, champange bottles, and throwback jerseys, all these chart rappers are lost, f the charts, this album's doing very well if u ask me, Will's gettin' a lot of props for it, would you rather have him put out some corny s*** that sells 10 million and have every hip-hop head diss him or do you want him to put out music that matters that doesn't sell much? The album is far from a failure if u ask me, even if it falls off the charts now. :poke:
  9. The album's still doing better than I expected it would, let's be realistic, people don't like ol' school hip-hop anymore, commercial fans like mostly 50 Cent, Eminem, and Jay-Z now, I don't think Will is gonna outsell them even though his music is better than theirs, that's why Will shouldn't even try to sound new anymore, he should go and just make JJFP hip-hop albums with no commercial artists featured on them with more storytellin' tracks that he's known for, who gives a damn if the critics call him ol' school when they even diss him now for sounding current,'cause he ain't gonna sell much from this point on.
  10. That's a bit much if you mean nonstop. That means 2 or three years without a new movie... Will can still record inbetween films... perhaps even inbetween shooting... I'm content with that. If Will just does rap as a side project to movies, he might start releasing some wack s***, he needs to put full focus into his albums or else should just consider retiring now on top, but that'd be depressing to see him do movies and never rap again. He should try to get his Overbrook label more established too than what it is, he gotta sign some more mcs, producers, etc. with some new talent to carry the legacy on too, he shouldn't abandon hip-hop forever!
  11. James Brown "Cold Sweat", Happy B-Day To The Godfather Of Soul! :birthday:
  12. "New Edition On Short-Lived Stint On Bad Boy Records LAUNCH Radio Networks R&B group New Edition is currently rehearsing for a national tour which kicks off next month and working with Paramount Pictures on the New Edition biopic. The group plans to head back into the studio sometime in the future to record new music, but following last year's fiasco with Bad Boy Records, they plan on taking their time. Ricky Bell says signing with Bad Boy Records did not live up to the group's expectations. "We thought it was gonna be like no limits," Bell said. "Let's go all out. Let's just get with the best writers, the best producers, let's just exploit New Edition, like, all the way, and that wasn't the plan. I mean, once we got in with him (P. Diddy), when we didn't agree with him on certain songs, we would get sent home for like six, seven months. You know, it would just be nothing being done." Bell added that the straw that broke the camel's back was an incident over a song titled "Keep In Touch" which was produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Bell said that Combs refused to pay for the song because the group was allegedly over budget, although they had only worked with in-house Bad Boy producers. According to Bell, Combs didn't respect Jam & Lewis, although the two produced many of New Edition's biggest hits. Eventually Jam & Lewis gave the group the song free of charge, but somehow it still wasn't included on the final version of One Love. Bell explained: "You know that song wasn't on there. It was taken off the album, then there was another song put on the album that wasn't even talked about initially of being on the album. A song that none of us liked. On top of that, Puffy paid himself $50,000, on top of that put a song on it that we didn't like, and we just felt like that was just a slap in the face. No respect." Following the fallout with Bad Boy Records, reports surfaced that the group was difficult to work with. Group member Johnny Gill addressed the rumors. He said: "Well, I want anyone, whoever has any doubts about us, working with us, look at our 22-year record. I mean, it's not ironic when you look at Bad Boy, not only just us, look at the artists that have come, the artists that are leaving, and everyone that's trying to get out of the situation." Calls to Bad Boy Records weren't returned at press time. " btw, "Behind The Music: New Edition" will be repeated tomorrow afternoon at 5PM EST in case you missed it.
  13. This is horrible news, Will is never gonna get enough hip-hop cred if he never does a proper tour, he needs to do a tour with Jazzy Jeff and do a JJFP album before going back into films! :mad8:
  14. Nice to see KRS-ONE do these great things to keep the essence of hip-hop alive, they should put some of this stuff on DVD! :thumb:
  15. Yeah I need to listen more to Rakim! I'm starting to buy some old skool albums! I bought "The Great Adventures Of Slick Rick" this week and I love it! I need to get me some Rakim albums!

  17. Yeah Selig finally put together a good proposal, he shoulda handled this more himself in the firstplace, the government shouldn't have to get involved in this issue.
  18. So what's the big deal about doing that, most of Jay-Z' punchlines come from Biggie and Big Daddy Kane songs, while Will makes up most of his punchlines, that was just paying homage to Rakim right there. U just noticed that now? Damn you gotta listen to more Rakim, he's a legend.
  19. Will has only 10 singles in 20 years? It has to be at least 20 countin' the JJFP days, and they do display Will's personality pretty well, Will ain't as serious as other rappers, people knock him for that, but that's who he is, he ain't ever gonna be as serious as KRS-ONE, "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" was a fun song, he's an upbeat person in real life, "Girls Ain't Nothin' But Trouble" and "Parents Just Don't Understand" shows that Will has a sense of humor which is true in real life, he likes to crack jokes but with 50 Cent, he does a song called "In Da Club" when he doesn't drink or smoke in real life or hang out in clubs, lives alone and doesn't even raise his son, which proves that his music is fake to who he really is since he only does music to sell records, hip-hop is too much like pop now, everyone follows the same format, Will made a song called "Just The Two Of Us" which expressed love for his son Trey, Will is a bigger man and mc than 50 Cent is and I don't understand why you have to defend him, but I wouldn't mind if Will hangs out with 50 if he could 50 get in the right direction, Will recognizes that 50's on top and might wanna give 50 some advice so he doesn't embarass the image of hip-hop, I agree with you, we gotta stop having so many posts about 50 Cent here, if you don't like him, don't listen to the radio, and don't talk about him. :blabla:
  20. Fehr: MLB Union Open to Steroids Penalties By BEN WALKER AP Sports Writer NEW YORK - The baseball players' union told commissioner Bud Selig on Monday that it was willing to talk to him about his call for harsher steroids penalties. "We will look forward to discussing the points you raised, and other appropriate matters," union head Donald Fehr said in a letter to Selig. Last week, Selig wrote to Fehr, asking players to agree to even tougher penalties than the ones that took effect at the start of the season. Selig now wants a 50-game suspension for first-time steroid offenders, a 100-game ban for a second offense and a lifetime suspension for a third violation. Earlier in the day, Minnesota Twins reliever Juan Rincon was suspended for 10 days after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. He was the fifth player banned under the Major League Baseball policy, and the most well-known. Under current rules, the first offense draws a 10-day suspension. The penalties increase to 30 days for a second positive test, 60 days for a third violation and one year for a fourth. The penalty for a fifth failure is at the commissioner's discretion. Along with stiffening the penalties under his "three strikes and you are out approach," Selig also wants the union to ban amphetamines, to increase random tests and to pick an independent person to handle the big league drug-testing program. Fehr noted in his letter that the union agreed in January to tougher penalties and said the program was working, adding, "You now request that we further modify our agreement." "Given the players' demonstrated commitment to make certain that the goals of our program are met, and their desire to continue to strive to make sure that is done, we are willing to discuss the matter with you," he wrote. Selig responded in a statement: "I am fully committed to the proposal made last week in my letter to Don Fehr." "Restoring public confidence in our sport through the elimination of the use of performance-enhancing substances and the establishment of more vigorous and effective testing programs are my highest priorities," Selig said. Washington Nationals catcher Brian Schneider, the team's player representative, liked what he heard. "If Mr. Fehr talks with Selig, obviously it's good news and they're going to try to work something out," Schneider said before the Nationals played at Los Angeles on Monday night. "You don't know if they're going to agree on it, and that's the thing we're waiting on. But whatever happens, something positive is going to come out of it," he said. "It's a serious issue, and everybody's going to deal with it. We're not going to take it for granted, and people aren't ignoring it anymore." Players agreed in the offseason to reopen the drug agreement, which was set to run through December 2006. "It was a signed document that I thought was etched in stone - at least until 2006," Dodgers catcher Jason Phillips said Monday night. "And for us to amend it at that point in time has never been done before. So it's not a surprise that they're going to keep talking about it." Along with Rincon, four other players have been suspended for 10 days: Tampa Bay outfielder Alex Sanchez, Colorado outfielder Jorge Piedra, Texas minor league pitcher Agustin Montero and Seattle minor league outfielder Jamal Strong. Fehr suggested that the sides "negotiate at the table, and not in the media." "Accordingly, I will not here otherwise respond to your letter," Fehr wrote. Baseball does not have any penalties for amphetamine use by players on 40-man major league rosters. Amphetamines, however, are banned for players with minor league contracts.
  21. Look at what Chuck D said in one of his recent terrordomes: "I would let folks know that hip hop is in their personal state of mind and within their souls. You don't have to buy all the advertised gear to be hip hop. You don't have to purchase every CD or watch every video to be hip hop. You don't have to ice-grill cats on the block or kick lock-down slang to be hip hop. In fact it's debatable in the new millennium that if you don't do those things you may be more hip hop than what's advertised." So on that note, I don't have to buy every hip-hop cd to be hip-hop 'cause hip-hop's in my soul!
  22. Hey I found out that Common dissin' Nas was just a rumor, I have no beef with him, I'm looking forward to his album now! :peace:
  23. Well maybe Will should start making songs about killin' women and gettin' high and still be real right? 50 Cent has to realise that most of the people that buy his albums are kids and put a better message in his music, I don't see him doing any powerful songs like "One Mic", "Tell Me Why", or "Dear Mama" to change the world. btw, I bought "Get Rich Or Die Tryin'" and that's enough 50 Cent I wanna hear, it's been sittin' there collecting dust for the last year and a half, I don't have the time and money to listen to the one million rap songs that were made, I only pick what I choose to enjoy, I think 50 needs to grow up as a person and learn not to diss everyone, somebody like Will needs to take him to the side and explain that to him 'cause someone'll murder 50 Cent if he doesn't learn how to respect people.
  24. Hey lambert I deleted your post 'cause I don't understand why you have to start an argument on all your posts, if you got a problem with AJ just ignore him and AJ should do the same, we don't need no childish beefs here, we're all stating our opinions here, I could listen to whatever artists I want to and what people say don't change my opinion, and it should be the same for you too, none of here are rap gods to say whoever we listen to are the ones everyone should listen to, we gotta respect each other here. Not everyone here likes Nas, MC Hammer, and Foxy Brown but I like them and if people diss me for that I could care less, you need to see that too not everyone is gonna like G Unit and D12 like you do, this is a JJFP forum, so any other artist could get dissed 'cause we all have different tastes, but if somebody disses JJFP then it's war! :ali: If you stop beefing with everyone here that doesn't like G Unit and D12 maybe more'll respect you, I don't like them but that doesn't mean that I think you're stupid, but if start dissin' me then I won't respect you, end of story.
  25. I feel what you're sayin' there, but Ludacris produced "Party Starter" and FP was flowin' like that even before Ludacris came out especially on "Code Red" and "He's The DJ,I'm The Rapper", I bet when Public Enemy comes out with their new album people'll think they're biting political rhymes off of Kanye West when it's the opposite, new school bites off the ol' school and the ol' school gets put down for trying keep up with the times, I still think this album's great for what it is 'cause he proved that he could be more versatile than hip-hop fans thought he was, but I think on his next album he should do more storytelling comedic type tracks that he's known for, commercial fans might not like that but he should sitck to what he's best at and let KRS-ONE, Common, and Nas make serious tracks that they're known for, if hip-hop was more diverse, Will wouldn't have made a song called "Lost and Found" in the 1st place. I personally would take the worst song on this album over "Freakin' It" too.
