  1. These young cats won't know who Afrika Bambataa is if they don't even know who KRS-ONE is, hip-hop history month ain't celebrated on the mainstream like it should be and that's why it's so messed up, cats need to be educated.
  2. A lot of mcs tour but they don't all have huge record sales, for instance Talib Kweli, he started touring way before "The Beautiful Struggle" came out, but the album didn't even go gold, which is a damn shame, and LL was touring too when "The Definition" came out, but it could still go platinum probably and it's nominated for a Grammy so it has had success mainstream, one thing about LL that makes him so great is that he has mainstream success but still has respect in the streets, which is something very few have done, a lot of these mainstream rappers right now don't have a lot of respect that LL has.
  3. If you talk to people that listen to rappers like 50 Cent, Nelly, and Jay-Z and you mention to them about ol' school artists like KRS-ONE and PE they'll tell u that they never heard of them, like Kwame said in that interview a lot of fans think that hip-hop started with 2Pac and Biggie, they're ignorant of the history of the game, and btw there was nothing wrong with 2Pac having many sides, that's what made him such a great lyricist, I respect his whole career.
  4. I can't believe that the album dropped that far already on the charts, he definately needs to drop "I Got To Get Her" as a single so "The Definition" could go platinum, I hope he wins a Grammy Award for that album, it's another hip-hop classic!
  5. I got... D.Mcnabb Watch Philadelphia Eagles 2004 NFC East Division Champs Sweat Shirt Independence Day DVD-Special Edition I,Robot DVD Cologne Persian Blanket Money
  6. Thanks Tim! :thumb: Kwame has a lot of knowledge of the game, he made some interesting points there.
  7. I love "Christmas Rappin'" By Kurtis Blow, it was the 1st hip-hop Christmas song, a classic too!
  8. I'm thinkin' March 'cause that's when I celebrate my 20th birthday, that'd be a nice present for me! :dj: Hey now I don't blame Will here for the delay, it ain't his fault, it's the record company, if he had it his way the album would've came out already, all mainstream labels are the same, he's gonna have to go on an independent label to get artistic freedom and respect in the hip-hop game. :ditto:
  9. Hey y'all I was forced to listen to Christmas music all month at work, I don't feel like listening to anymore Christmas songs now! :bang: :lolsign: I couldn't believe that some of my co-workers never heard "Christmas In Hollis" by Run-Dmc before. :dunno: Anyway Merry Christmas y'all!
  10. Oh this is dope news, Jazzy Jeff's working on a new solo joint that'll follow Will's new album for JJFP to dominate in '05, I'm so excited!
  11. Thanks for that fuq, I'm gonna sign it too! :thumb: Hey lambert man, I feel sorry for you, you're brainwashed by gimmicks so much u don't know it, I hope somebody buys u some KRS-ONE, Public Enemy, Nas, Tribe Called Quest, and De La Soul CDs for Christmas so u would know what real talent is, I'd have no problem with them on a 2Pac album.
  12. Hey bigted, I didn't find those three songs in 1990. Particularly the Public Enemy ones. I mean exactly 1990. Really? What year are those songs then? I got Public Enemy's greatest hits album and it said that those 2 songs were released in 1990 and the "Love's Gonna Get Cha" was also released in 1990 according to "A Retrospective:KRS-ONE's greatest hits" album.
  13. Vince Carter is closer to being the next Penny Hardaway(who's now a backup on the Knicks) than he is to being the next Jordan, he had a couple of great years coming into the league, but he's been injury prone lately and if this keeps up, he'll be a bench player soon. The Nets can't make the playoffs this year even with Carter, J. Kidd is not 100% right now, and now they traded away their frontcourt, E.Williams, A. Williams, and A. Mourning are all good physical frontcourt players, so they're too small now, the Raptors might actually have a better team now 'cause of this deal, they got the distraction off their backs and have draft picks for the future they could be a championship contender a few years from now.
  14. I don't have enough time to name my entire collection but I'll list a few of my favorites right here: PE "It takes a nation of Millions To Hold Us back" PE "Revolvolution" PE "Yo! 15. I'm still trying to find his albums, they're hard to find! :bang: KRS-ONE did release an album where he didn't curse at all on, in 2002 he released "Spiritual Minded" which is a gospel rap album, inspired from his teachings at the Temple Of Hip-Hop, and it features a few gospel mcs on it including B.B. Jay, Russell Simmons' nephew, I heard B.B. Jay's "Universal Concussion" that he released in 2000, it's dope positive hip-hop that everyone could enjoy. And I'm not that much into Nick Cannon, he tries too hard to sound like FP, maybe if tried to be a lil' more original I would like him, I don't care if you like him or not, just don't ever say that he's legendary as FP, 'cause that'd be as dumb as sayin' Ja Rule's as legendary as 2Pac is 'cause he bites 2Pac's style a lot too and I ain't feelin' that, to make your mark in the game you gotta be original.
  16. One day you'll find the one for u, it's better to be friends with a girl for a while and get to know if u really do like her or not, don't trip if things don't work out, just be honest and you'll find love, don't rush anything. :ditto:

  18. Soul legend James Brown has prostate cancer NEW YORK (AP) — James Brown, the "Godfather of Soul" and a legend in rap, rock and funk, has announced that he has prostate cancer. In a statement released to The Associated Press on Friday morning, Brown, 71, said that he will undergo surgery for the ailment on Dec. 15. "I have overcome a lot of things in my life. I will overcome this as well," Brown said. Brown, best known for seminal hits like I Feel Good,Please, Please, Please, and Cold Sweat, is also a diabetic. Dubbed the hardest working man in show business, he just finished a two-week Canadian tour on Thursday night. He is expected to spend three weeks recovering from the procedure. Earlier this year, he faced other troubles when he was charged with domestic abuse after an altercation with his wife. The allegation was resolved when he failed to contest the charge. Brown is due to release an autobiography next month. Besides promoting the project with a slew of appearances, he still plans a tour of Asia and Australia early next year.
  19. Once again I'm gonna say that FP would be better off on an underground label, Interscope ain't no better than any mainstream label, the album would've probably dropped already and if he's been recording a lot of tracks over the last 6 months then maybe it should be a double album like Nas' album is that's why his was delayed, that'd worth waiting for! :thumb: I can't blame FP for wanting to do movies 'cause at least movies don't get delayed and you get paid in full doing 'em, while recording artists get pimped by record companies, that's why I wanna start my own label before recording 'cause ain't nobody gonna pimp me! :touche:
  20. Of course there's still racism in America, you'd be stupid not to believe so, why couldn't Al Sharpton become president then? :dunno: What about all the worser things that Eminem says, do you see anyone boycotting his music? :dunno: If he were black they would, I bet if Jay-Z dissed Michael Jackson, MTV would've banned the video and the album wouldn't go platinum. There's nothing wrong with what FP or KRS said and those that boycott them are idiots 'cause everyone has a right to their opinion and we have to respect that, it's not like they raped or killed people like some entertainers have been doing, what about R. Kelly and Kobe Bryant, ain't they still as famous as ever for doing worse things than just talking? FP and KRS are speaking for the millions black people in the ghetto that don't have a voice to say those things they did but they feel the same way, I don't see the mainstream crying over what happens in the ghetto like they do to 9/11 after 3 years now, in the ghetto we're told to let go, so why can't the mainstream let go too, like LL said too "I don't mean this in a disrespectful way/ but Columbine happens in the ghetto everyday".
  21. I think Xzibit has his own reality show on MTV called "Pimp My Ride" where he fixes broke cars, he's crossing over. KRS gave Xzibit a shout-out on his '01 song "Hip-Hop Knowledge", I like Xzibit better than most mainstream rappers like Nelly and Jay-Z, he ain't one of my favorites but I wouldn't be mad if he sold 5 million 'cause he does have a lot of skills.
  22. Congradulations to LL for getting nominated for another Grammy! No offense to Kanye, he's very good, but LL's still the best mainstream mc, he's gonna knock 'em out again! :ali:
  23. Thanks for the review FUQ! :thumb: There's no doubt about me picking it up, on a further note, I'm surprised that this album debuted in the top 10 on the Billboard Charts considering that the dope singles "Bridging The Gap" or "Thief's Theme" got no airplay, usually u need to have singles in heavy rotation to go platinum.
  24. So has anyone here heard the album yet? :dunno: I've been too busy lately working to get a chance to buy it! :bang: Hey AJ if you heard the album, I'd appreciate it if you post a review here for it 'cause I respect your knowledge on hip-hop.
  25. He didn't respond? You obviously didn't know what he said the next day after the comments came out, he said this: KRS-ONE’S RESPONSE TO THE DAILY NEWS October 15, 2004 "Like everyone I was shocked to read that I and other African-Americans actually “cheered when 911 happened” and that I have “declared my solidarity with Al Qaeda”. When I read my words taken out of context I was shocked and disappointed that the Daily News would go this far to assassinate my character and distort my views. Such statements with no follow up explanation or interview from KRS-ONE as to what he may have meant or even a complete quote of my point is simply irresponsible journalism on the Daily News’ part. I would never just say something as crazy as “we cheered when 911 happened!” I was making an objective point about how many Hiphoppas as well as the oppressed peoples of the world felt that day. I am a philosopher and a critical thinker, I speak truth and I urge people to think critically about themselves and their environment. Yes, my words are strong. Yes, my views are controversial. But to call me a terrorist is simply wrong! A young lady asked about what we can do beyond voting to change the political state of things in our country? I responded not by irresponsibly stating that “America has to commit suicide if the world is to be a better place” and that’s all. I am a poet and I speak poetically. My full statement was “America has to commit suicide if the world is to be a better place. If you want to go beyond voting American interests must put a gun to its head and commit suicide because as long as we are only interested in American interests we go out and invade the rest of the world. The real question is are you a citizen of the United States or are you a citizen of the world? And so for me, I would say voting in a corrupt society adds more corruption.” I was asked by the New Yorker magazine to discuss “different and personal beliefs musicians hold and the contribution artists like myself can make to the nation’s political dialog”. My views were indeed different and most were personal. However, when I was asked about why Hiphop has not engaged the current situation more (meaning 911) my responds was “because it does not affect us, or at least we don’t perceive that it effects us, 911 happened to them”. I went on to say that “I am speaking for the culture now; I am not speaking my personal opinion”. I continued to say; “911 effected them down the block; the rich, the powerful those that are oppressing us as a culture. Sony, RCA or BMG, Universal, the radio stations, Clear Channel, Viacom with BET and MTV, those are our oppressors those are the people that we’re trying to overcome in Hiphop everyday, this is a daily thing. We cheered when 911 happened in New York and say that proudly here. Because when we were down at the trade center we were getting hit over the head by cops, told that we can’t come in this building, hustled down to the train station because of the way we dressed and talked, and so on, we were racially profiled. So, when the planes hit the building we were like; mmmm justice.” And just as I began to say “now of course a lot of our friends and family were lost there as well” but I was interrupted. My intent is never to demean or disrespect anyone’s loss or gain; and of course I did not literally “cheer when 911 happened”. I made an objective statement about the feelings of those who were oppressed by world trade policies. I was just as saddened as everyone else on 911. However, for many of us that were racially profiled and harassed by the World’s Trade Center’s security and the police patrolling that area as well as the thousands of American protesters that spoke out against the World Trade Organization months before in Seattle, Washington there was a sense of justice, a sense of change, a wake up call watching the twin towers fall. These are not my views only; these views represent a popular truth that few people are really ready to hear. No one wished death on anyone or just sat and “cheered when 911 happened”. But some of us can see through the bull****! America must change its approach to the world and its citizens. This, I believe is what all Americans should be thinking about. How do we make our country better? For years my career has been one of promoting peace, love, unity and having fun; such has always been Hiphop’s cultural principles. So how all of a sudden now can I be aligned with Al Qaeda? What happened to honest debate and freedom of speech! I don’t speak for the African American community exclusively, I speak for HIPHOP! And let me be clear here; most of the Hiphop community is against the war in Iraq! But to align me with Al Qaeda is clearly an attempt by the Daily News to interrupt the street voice of our Hiphop community, KRS-ONE’s leadership and the increased momentum of our Hiphop political movement. I don’t think Al Qaeda needs my solidarity nor did I ever offer it, so what’s the point. For a major news organization to now align KRS-ONE with Al Qaeda shows the unwarranted contempt that such an organization has for me. Such is grounds for a law suit! Finally, no one should ever believe anything that the one-sided Daily News has to say about the same Hiphop community that it (the Daily News) has tried so desperately to undermine for years. The only thing the Daily News seems to be interested in is scandal and controversy and for years I have challenged the Daily News on its depictions of Rap artists and Hiphop as a whole. I know they don’t like me. However, I don’t give a ---- either! They never cover our efforts toward peace and all the charitable work we do within the Hiphop community. They never air our grievances or how we feel about the state of the world, nor have they ever aired our views on America’s invasion of Iraq simply because they just don’t want to hear them. The Hiphop community forces America to look at itself; and no one likes to take b.l.a.m.e. for their own for immaturity Because Looking At Me ain’t Easy! For the record, I am an American philosopher. I speak and seek truth. If the slander that the Daily News has printed regarding my political views has disrespectfully offended anyone in any way I truly apologize. Again, it was never my or Hiphop’s intent to disregard, disrespect or demean the tragedy of September 11th 2001 and those that died that day. However, we do have a voice and a point of view and if you are not prepared to hear what Hiphop has to say about its view of world events then don’t ask!" KRS-ONE is not a bastard, he's an intelligent man, the truth is controversial, you can't cry over 9/11 forever, you gotta move on, s*** happens everyday and people die but it seems like nobody gives a f*** unless it hits the rich people, every life matters no matter if you live in the 'hood or Hollywood! Grow up!
