  1. So what happened 'bout the interview on Power 106, did it happen or not? :dunno: :what:
  2. The last album that I bought was Ne's "one Love" too, i ain't getting Destiny Child's or Snoop's CDs for a lil' while though, but I'll defenitely cop them though, but I'm gonnna try to find Jazzy Jeff's CD this week, everybody's been sleepin' on him for a long time, it's a shame, but he ain't lookin' for fame anyway, he does it for the art like more should do, I think FP's album would come out faster if he signed to an underground label, but the long wait will finally be over 8-10 weeks as long as it's not pushed back again! :bang: I'm also looking forward to buying Nas "Street's Disciple" when it comes out in 2 weeks, has anyone seen "Bridging The Gap" on BET or MTV yet, I don't understand why it ain't getting airplay, his videos are usually in heavy rotation before his album drops over the past few years! :dunno: Damn Columbia's screwing up Nas now, he should go underground 'cause the mainstream ain't showing him love, he should have a Grammy by now!
  3. :werd: I just wanted to state my opinion about how I feel about the list, it ain't that bad, if MTV made a top-25 list they'd probably put Nelly's album instead of Aceyalone, so at least most of the list is albums that're classics without a doubt except for a few of the more recent ones, when you make an all-time list, props should go mostly to the ol' school albums 'cause the 1st great albums in hip-hop were the most original, sure there's some great albums now but I don't think that you could top hip-hop pioneers 'cause they laid the blueprint to what hip-hop is today, all props should go to them! I'm not gonna say no more 'cause everyone would make a different list 'cause we all have a different idea to what's great. :ditto:
  4. That's sad to hear 'cause Wu-Tang's one of my favorite groups of all time in hip-hop, it won't be the same without O.D.B., RIP baby! :sad6:
  5. "Ready To Die"'s a hip-hop classic but it shouldn't be ranked in the top 25, why ain't Big Daddy Kane or Slick Rick on this list, if there wasn't Big Daddy Kane or Slick Rick, there wouldn't be Biggie or Nas! "The Marshall Mathers LP" and 'The BluePrint" ain't classics, you skip through half of their songs on those albums, come on now even LL's worst album's better than those 2! "Infinite" and "Reasonable Doubt" are their only classics, the rest of their albums are just average mainstream material in my opinion, maybe not in yours, but that's how I feel so don't get offended by it! BDP at #21 below Mos Def? :bang: Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five at #22? They're hip-hop pioneers, they should be in the top 5 albums!! NWA's "Straight Outta Compton" was more revolutionary for gangsta rap than Dr. Dre's "The Chronic" album was and "It takes a Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back" was PE's best album and possibly the best album ever in hip-hop history! I don't like how they mention Lauryn Hill and Missy Elliot instead of Queen Latifah and MC Lyte either! :nhawong: Oh yeah where's the greatest mc ever 2Pac at on this list and why ain't "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper" or "Code Red" mentioned? :what:
  6. I loved reading that interview, I respect people that know how to speak their minds like Jazzy Jeff does, he's very inspiring also as a person not just as a DJ! :thumb:
  7. Hey I've been reading some of these "Terrordome" articles that Chuck D has written on publicenemy.com and this one point he made in January 2000 intrigues me: "MUSIC… The music biz is prehistoric in their handling of art. Lawyers and accountants are holding on to the old way because it pays their craft forever well. The 12-track album format is over. Seriously, when was the last time you named more than 3-4 cuts off any album? Hype has ruled in convincing the public that these albums are just that. Truly we are, and have been, in a singles market, only based on the popularity, or politics, pushing the play of the single/video. Twelve cuts? A waste of yours, and our time, only contractually warranted so retail can sell you a $1.00 CD for $11.99. It's not the artist's fault; it's just that there's more product out there. Don't make the mistake of comparing DR. DRE'S CHRONIC and 2001 albums. It's impossible because of two different ways and eras of listening. When was the last time you played a cut all the way through, not pressing the next track seek button? Technology has allowed this way of quickly moving through an album without even hearing the hook/chorus, thus people have collections of CDs in their crib that they've hardly heard but had to have, based on marketing." That's the problem in hip-hop now and music in general, these albums are too long and we skip over more than half of the albums but yet we keep on wasting our money on them, why do we do that? :dunno: The real good albums that you could play all the way through for an hour ain't the popular ones that's for sure! :ditto: Britney Spears sold about 50 million CD's in her career and all she does is lip-sync!! :nhawong: When you make a song you shouldn't make it to be an album filler that ain't gonna be a single, you should make all songs like singles where people could relate to you like FP, PE, LL, KRS, Nas, and a handful of others do, in fact the album cuts should be stronger than the singles but most of the time the singles are the only songs worth listening to on an album. Artists should take their time and not release albums so fast 'cause they need to make sure their product is quality that's why I ain't worrying how long it's gonna take for FP to release "Switch" and the album 'cause he's making sure that it's done right and that's what a true artist does, you don't have to write songs everyday either, I notice that when I take longer to write a song it comes out better, keep that in mind!
  8. Yeah man u gettin' stronger everytime, that's a verse that people who really love the essence of hip-hop will enjoy! :thumb:
  9. Hey man I feel u on that but don't u think that there's too much flashy videos out there right now? :dunno: Why can't there be more singles like "I Can", "I Try", or "Jesus Walks" where the song has a strong meaning to it and makes you think, that's why I don't watch MTV and BET as much as I used to 'cause having a video disrespecting women and promoting greediness all the time doesn't appeal that much to me and is not a good message to the youth, who only listen to radio and can't afford to buy all those albums! I don't think you're keepin' it real if you're teaching kids that it's cool to get high, shoot people, flash ice, and go to jail 'cause you'll get street cred. :what: Having street cred will have you dead before you turn 18, but I guess that's just keepin' it real right? :nhawong: How're black people gonna get ahead with an attitude like that, that's why white people put us down 'cause we make ourselves look and sound ignorant! :sad6: When we had NWA, KRS-ONE, and Public Enemy on top in the game, they came with a message that it ain't fun to be in gangs and gave us inspiration with songs like "Fight The Power", "Stop The Violence", and "F*** The Police" to fight back when racism comes to you but I don't see that message anymore! :bang:
  10. Thanks for the review AJ, I'm gonna cop the album this weekend! :thumb:
  11. A'ight I'm gonna get this back on track again, I wanna ask kwame: As an artist which do you prefer best, writing a song or producing a song?
  12. :werd: That's the reason why KRS-ONE left Jive after releasing "I Got Next" 'cause he didn't want to be on the same label as Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, and Nsync! :ditto:
  13. Yeah K-OS is a dope mc that is rarely mentioned,I'm gonna check out that album soon, I listened to some of his tracks on the internet and I enjoy them 'cause he raps with a lot of heart! :dj:
  14. I thought "1000 Kisses" was a great single but nobody really paid attention to it! :bang: I really think that FP needs to collaborate with mcs that are closer to his caliber than Petey Pablo and Ludacris, those mcs are better collaborating with Nelly and Jay-Z than with FP, FP should collaborate with mcs like Nas, Talib Kweli, LL Cool J, KRS-ONE or Rakim, but I'd rather see less collabos and just have JJFP rockin' it on the comeback album. :dj:
  15. It's November so we gotta teach a hip-hop history lesson Since there's a lot of propaganda in the game like elections Where there's more talk than action Who says all this talk brings satification? When fools choose to stay in ignorance
  16. 50% effort from De La Soul is better than 100% effort from talentless hip-hop groups that're dominating the charts! :ali:
  17. That "On fire" beat is dope but Llyod Bank's lyrics don't fasinate me, it's a waste of a good beat, I could've done better if I was rapping to that beat! :ditto:
  18. I'd take these CD's JJFP "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper" De La Soul "Stakes Is High" LL Cool J "Mama Said Knock You Out" The Roots "Things Fall Apart" Jay-Z "Reasonable Doubt" KRS-ONE "Return Of Da Boom Bap" Public Enemy "It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back" Heavy D & The Boyz "Peaceful Journey" Run-Dmc "Tougher Than Leather"
  19. Alot of mcs that're rappin' about material things won't last that long in the game 'cause there's gonna be a time where the fans'll mature and realise that this music is garbage and they won't buy it anymore, either that or they won't survive if they take the music too serious, more rappers have to realise that if they keep on disrespecting themselves in their songs by sounding ignorant, nobody's gonna respect them when times get hard for them, their fame can't last forever when it's tainted! :werd:
  20. There's a million people that have skills but only a handful could actually make dope songs, there's a difference between being a dope freestyler who puts together average albums like Jay-Z and being a versatile mc who puts together classic albums like KRS-ONE, there's 100 Jay-Zs for every 1 KRS-ONE. How could Jay-Z beat KRS-ONE when he can't even beat Nas? :dunno: Even though Nas sells millions of CDs, he still represents the essence of hip-hop, unlike Jay-Z who started to represent the bling-bling era once he started going platinum! :cya:
  21. Chingy's only rapping about money, hoes, and weed like every other rapper and his rhymes are so simple and predictable to figure out, he ain't creative, he's garbage in my mind, sorry that's my opinion, and not many people do think like me 'cause they go out and buy this garbage and my favorite mcs ain't dominating the charts like this garbage is but I could care less 'cause I like what I like and they like what they like. BTW, I read this article in the November 2004 issue of Vibe about Nelly who said that he did a BET uncut video with strippers to get streetcred! :nhawong: It's blind to say that hip-hop is as original now as it was when it started 'cause you could see everyone biting off of each other now, anyone can make an album about material things, but how many mcs can make a CD about something that really matters to them and the peeps the most? :dunno: not many! :werd:
  22. Well I base my fact on their career catolog's, sure Jay-Z is a multiplatinum mc and has a lot of platinum plaques, but how come only one of his albums:"Reasonable Doubt" is considered a hip-hop classic, while KRS-ONE has 13 albums that could all be considered classic albums, he still brings it strong with his post-2000 albums "The Sneak attack" "Spiritual Minded" and "Kristyles" as he did when he came out with "Criminal Minded" "Return Of Da BoomBaP" "I Got Next" and countless others before 2000, while Jay-Z skills are declining drastically each album after "Reasonable Doubt", Jay-Z is in the same category as Ja Rule 'cause he sings songs with Beyonce like Ja Rule does with Ashanti., while KRS-ONE ranks up there with 2Pac, LL Cool J, and FP as a legendary mc 'cause he stays growing as an artist, so there's no comparison, KRS-ONE could retire now and'll still be considered a legend many years from now while nobody'll remember Jay-Z after he retires wait and see but I don't picture KRS-ONE retiring yet 'cause he still got a lot of fire left, while Jay-Z is washed up! :ali:
