The problem in mainstream hip-hop comes from the fact that most rappers like Jay-Z and 50 Cent make gangs, drugs, and crime look glamourous, but most of the underground and ol' school mcs rap about these things in a conscious way to let you know that it ain't cool to do these things, you have to move on in life and make a living in a more positive way, that's what 2Pac did, and that's what rappers like JJFP, LL Cool J, Nas, Talib Kweli, Rakim, and KRS-ONE do, and they do it in their own individual ways, you can see them mature when they do another album, while rappers like Jay-Z rap like they're still teenagers they don't grow up and mature as artists, people criticize Nas for not trying to sound like "Illmatic" all the time but you have to move on and talk about other things like he did on "God's Son" when he talked about the pain of losing his mother and rapping about his life now not 10 years ago, you have to be yourself and mature if you wanna seperate yourself from the pack.

Since 2day's Halloween the song of the day is... "Nightmare On My Street" By Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
-
Hey I ordered that CD the other day at the BMG Music Club that I'm a member of, this will be the 3rd Slick Rick album in my collection, I love "The Great Adventures Of Slick Rick" and "The Ruler's Back", he's a great artist! Does anyone have any of The get Fresh Crew's albums that he did wit Doug E. Fresh? :dunno: I hope he comes out wit a new album soon, he's still on the Def Jam roster, only him and LL Cool J are the only ones left on Def Jam from the '80s: EPMD, Public Enemy, and The Beasties Boys ain't there anymore.

Nas "Book Of Rhymes"

Hip-hop is street music, it was originally created in the streets of the South Bronx in NYC, so of course rappers are gonna talk about the streetlife in their songs 'cause that's what they've seen most of their lives, that's just keepin' it real to who they are, FP doesn't really talk too much about the streetlife in his songs 'cause he didn't live the type of streetlife that most rappers lived and that's just keepin' it real to who he is. :werd:

Congradulations the Red Sox for winning the World Series! They played together like a team should and ended the Yankee monopoly of going to the World Series every year, money can't buy championships, teamwork should! :ditto:
-
:werd: I like underground hip-hop, that's where the heart's at, I try to discover different artists at an underground hip-hop forum on the internet, but the peeps that post there talk more about Jay-Z and Eminem than they do any of the underground artists! :bang: Most of the hip-hop that I listen to these days are either underground or ol' school artists, when hip-hop started it was all underground, in my opinion the problem now is that there's too much money involved, so there's less talent displayed, when you have to sound a certain way to get a record deal, underground mcs are rebels 'cause they stay true to who they are and don't change their images to get famous, it's too bad though that the least talented artists are the ones making the most money, and I hear that Def Jam is gonna name Jay-Z president of that label that LL Cool J built, that's disrespectful towards LL! :nhawong:

I'm actually listening to R.Kelly's "Chocolate Factory" album right now, it's a dope album, he's an artistic genious, he's still the best in R&B right now, he don't need to be doing albums with Jay-Z. :ditto:
-
Kanye's album did go #1 the 1st couple weeks it came out, but currently after almost a year since its release date it's only double platinum, it's an incredible album and should've sold 5 or 6 million by now, but it's a surprise that it made at least platinum when most quality albums don't go platinum these days, once in a while it happens, the Outkast album is a quality album too so in between people buy good music! :ditto:
-
:werd: I ain't buying it 'cause I don't like Jay-Z that much anymore and "The Best Of Both Worlds" was wack, it'd been dope if LL Cool J was doing a whole album with R.Kelly 'cause I love that song "I Got To Get Her", what's R. Kelly thinkin' to do 2 albums with Jay-Z! :dunno: :bang: R.Kelly's a great artist but the worst move in his music career was to do a whole album, I could take 1 or 2 songs collaborated together but a whole album! :what:
-
People are gonna think that Will's corny unless his albums start having PA stickers on them 'cause they don't like it that he doesn't curse when 99% of rappers do and I wasn't talking about him doing that right now, hell no, not after releasing all those party singles, he needs to release some more serious songs like "The Rain', "Chasin' Forever", "Momma Knows", and "Potnas" to get some respect in hip-hop but unless he starts cursing in his songs, these same people will think Will's corny, u'll never please everyone 'cause if he starts cursing in his songs, some of us would lose respect for him, it wouldn't bother me if he cursed a lil' bit, but if he started cursing every five seconds like Eminem, I'll be pissed! :lolsign:
-
:werd: I don't think that it would ruin his career if he released a few Christmas songs as an EP 'cause quite a few mcs have released Christmas songs before including Ice Cube and the Westside Connection, Kurtis Blow, Snoop Dogg, and Run-Dmc to name a few and I don't think anybody's made fun of them 4 that. :ditto:
-
Hey I still listen to "Nod Ya Head" once in a while but I can't stand "Men In Black" anymore, I think that song's mad corny! And lerkot, u obviously didn't listen to the "Born To Reign" album 'cause there's some good tracks on there. :dj:
-
:werd: Yeah man that's why I'm not sayin' the names anymore of artists that I dont like 'cause I don't wanna offend anyone that likes them, that's their opinion, but I've been a fan of LL since I started listening to hip-hop and I think that he inspires more than even Nas does, but that's just my opinion of course, some people think that LL's the wackest mc out right now, while I think he's the best mc out right now, he was the best mc out, and will continue to be 'cause I look up to him, even when his sales slip, I'll still support him 'cause I'm a fan of his. Hey I think some of 50 Cent's tracks are dope, but not enough them to say that I'm his fan, but that's my opinion, no disrespect towards him. It's also my opinion that I think most of hip-hop is garbage right now, but you might think all hip-hop is dope right now but that's ur opinion, I won't get offended by it! :ditto: Personally though I wanna see a rapper go #1 on the charts not flashing jewelery, rapping about hoes, or rapping about shooting everybody, but that's just my opinion, since most people like that, which is sad, but that's just my opinion, since u might think it's great for them do rap about that all the time, I personally find it boring! :dunno:
-
:werd: Me too, they rather go buy that other hip-hop trash out right now than buy LL's album, it should be platinum by now! The sad thing is that I think Nas' new album is gonna do worse record sales wise 'cause his new single "Bridgin' The Gap" ain't getting any airplay while you could hear the same trash getting played over and over, "Hush" ain't doing that well either right now as it should, but at least it's getting some airplay! :ditto: It all comes down to fans liking trash music! :sad6:
-
I could tell that u wrote that song from ur heart and the best songs are the ones that come from ur heart, they don't have to be great lyrically, but if you say something important, then I think that it's dope, great job! :thumb:
-
 This is great news, it's sad though that he and Will are the only ol' school mcs that can hit the top 40 on the Billboard charts these days! :sad6: De La Soul's new album debuted at #87! :what: I wanna see LL's album go multiplatinum and sell more than you know who(I won't say their names 'cause these artists don't even deserved to be mentioned anymore, we hear their names too much already as it is) 'cause his music is more quality than theirs!
-
How about if they start touring when "Switch" drops would that be a good idea? What about all the people that bought a JJFP album, they wouldn't go to the show just to hear the old school tracks? These are not new artists, they already have plenty of hits under their belts already and are household names in hip-hop, so I'm sure fans would be interested in seeing them, it's kinda sad that they haven't toured since the late '80s, maybe that's why they lost a lot of ol' school fans! :sad6:
-
What's up y'all so who's gonna win? :dunno: I don't usually watch much baseball until around the playoffs, my favorite team the Mets are out of it, I think the Red Sox will finally win the World Series for the 1st time since 1918, they lost to the Mets in 1986, I was only a year old so I don't remember that! :lolsign:

Yeah, no more Born To Reigns. There is STILL no excuse 4 how poorly it sold. It may have been an experimental album, but that's no excuse 4 it 2 at least go platnium. It's up 2 us 2 get the word out there, pick the album up the week it drops, and try 2 keep people from uploading/downloading the album. "Born To Reign" shoulda gone platinum but Jazzy Jeff's mixtapes should go platinum too 'cause he's a legendary DJ and veteran mcs like KRS-ONE should go platinum too 'cause they're still in the game and deserve the recognition rather than a lot of these cats in hip-hop that're going platinum making CDs with no heart, I wouldn't be surprised if Will never goes platinum again not 'cause his skills are falling but it'll be 'cause people like garbage music these days, how many hip-hop CDs in this decade that went platinum are great? :dunno: In order to go platinum you have to promote prostitution, drugs, greed, and gangs to make your album appealing, people don't buy that much hip-hop that has a positive message only Nas and LL Cool J are going platinum by rapping with heart but barely platinum unlike those ignorant mcs(no need to name them) are going multiplatinum with no heart and talk about killing their wives, hip-hop was created originally to clean up the streets, we should be rapping about stopping prostitution, drugs, greed, and gangs, not making it sound cool! :what: What's out there these days is polluting the streets! :sad6: That's why most hip-hop with heart doesn't go #1 on the charts anymore! It's like what I said on my song "Dark Ages Of Hip-Hop" "Uh, Uh, hip-hop lost it's head Too much pop s**t That's we gotta stop again Few wanna stop it And plenty don't just plot hits Many performers are knocked with the gimmick Taken over from them industry heads Who wanna just bust elementary lyrics With more imagery pics Taken the place with filthy graphics What kind of great generation are we livin' in? When controversy outsells talent!" "Code Red" and "Born To Reign" are still great albums even though they didn't go platinum but they're not the only albums in hip-hop history that were slept on, a lot of great albums right now are being sleep on and FP should do a tour whether the album sells a lot or not 'cause he owes it to the fans, we still show him love! :ditto:
-
:werd: That's true, record companies end up making more money than the artists do, that's why DMX retired from rapping and is doing movies too, you can't make a luxurious living being a rap artist like you could from being an actor, you only get 1 million instead of 10(I'd take 1 million in a heartbeat though, damn :lolsign: ) but FP was already a millionaire before he started acting so he doesn't need the money and he also said "Movies are just a chick on the side, I'm in love wit the flow", I'm starting to think it's the opposite now! :what: :sad6: People just think of FP as a Hollywood actor and are forgetting that he's a legendary mc, he needs to put more focus on hip-hop again! :bang:
-
How is it that he never won an Oscar yet, every movie he does goes to #1? :dunno: Hopefully Will's movie success will lead to more multiplatinum CDs! It's great that FP doing all these great movies but I want to hear more rhymes from him, he's been dropping about 2 hit movies each year since 2000, but only one album so far, what's up with that?!! :ditto:

Jazzy Jeff's "In The House" Out Now
bigted replied to WildWildWillennium's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
I agree with that point Jazzy Jeff made about hip-hop now: "Hmm… I’d say hip-hop isn’t as good as it used to be to me. The appeal is a lot broader now, and hip-hop is all over the world which is a beautiful thing. I just think the commercialism has really been a real blow to hip-hop." -
Hopefully none until he releases a few more albums, I can hold on a few years watching his DVDs but I don't think I could hold on a few more years waiting for a new CD, I'm more of a music fan than a movie fan! :dj:

:werd: Me too, NJ Rebel in the house! :lolsign:
