  1. Nice job Turntable, I'm gonna make a poll!
  2. lol, yeah I popped in that "Elephant In The Room" CD and played that song and "My Conscience" with KRS when I was making that post on the Fat Joe mixtape thread
  3. btw like I said 2Pac's a great mc but he wasn't Jesus, there's other great mcs out there too, Fat Joe deserves to be mentioned among the greats 'cause he put out a lot of great songs too and who knows our beloved 2Pac probably would collaborate with Lil' Wayne too if he were alive then people would call him a sellout: I found this old 2000 interview of LL Cool J: http://music.yahoo.com/read/interview/12030328 He explains very well the perception that people have of hip hop, more people need to be open minded as him: LAUNCH: People don't receive violent lyrics in hip-hop the way they're intended. Do you agree with that statement? LL COOL J: It's not because people hate on hip-hop, it's 'cause you're talking about how you flip pies and kick doors and smack people with pistols, and then you put a spin on it and say you're exposing it to the world--that's not really what you're doing. What you're doing is making Goodfellas <http://music.launch.com/album/default.asp?albumID=73575>, the movie. You're making The Godfather <http://music.launch.com/album/default.asp?albumID=149894>, the movie. You're entertaining people with violence and drama and danger. The song "Homicide" I just described is what it is. I'm exposing it. I don't ever want to get out here and promote any kind of hate. And I don't want to promote any kind of separatism. I ain't into that. I think people should be [judged] based on their actions and on how they treat others. And with hip-hop, I think everybody's different. I think that it's important to remember there is room for messages in hip-hop, and there's room for messages in Hollywood, too. I'm in films, and I'm in Hollywood, but in society, perception is everything. There are so many double standards. You take a film like Goodfellas--Joe Pesci, I love him as an actor, but they take a guy, pistol-whip him with a gun until the gun breaks on his face, wrap him up in a sheet, throw him a trunk, stab him, up and bury him. You put that in a rap song, it's horrible. Nobody wants to deal with it, like it's not happening, or "How could you say something like that?" I have two versions of my album. One has profanity, one doesn't. Is it entertainment? Yes, but there's social commentary in there as well, and then there's a clean version for younger kids. Everybody's not the same. Some people like Barney, and some people like to watch Scarface <http://music.launch.com/album/default.asp?albumID=55980>. We all have a different way of expressing ourselves. That doesn't make you a better or worse human being. We all have a role to play, and if we did the same thing, then we would all be a bunch of robots. So when I listen to Will Smith <http://music.launch.com/artist/default.asp?artistID=1032011> and he says that gangsta rap is wack--you know, I'm not a gangsta rapper, but I don't agree with him that gangsta rap is wack, I just think that he has a different way of expressing himself. Now if you tell me it's not appropriate for kids, then I tell you [you're] right. Gangsta rap is for a certain age, you know what I'm saying? I just think that we need to be free to express ourselves as artists.
  4. i'm listening to marley marl's classics mix on wbls, he was some playing eric b and rakim now he's playing swv
  5. fat joe and krs rap about the critics of hip hop music on "My Conscience": [KRS-One] Would the critics come at you if you was Arnold Schwarzenegger? Killing cops in movies (BO! BO! BO!), promotin graphic anger You should run for governor, Republicans be lovin ya! [Fat Joe] Yeah, wave the Confederate flag like some Southerners?! Nah! I rather be on the block like a hustler Guns with the mufflers D's put the cuffs on us He's an MC and these streets put they trust in us [KRS-One] Yeah Joey Crack, but they also put they lust in us They fuss wit us, ain't nobody helpin us! One minute they cheerin us Next minute they cussin us! [Joe Crack (KRS)] **** 'em! **** 'em! **** 'em! **** 'em! **** 'em! That's that nigga bitch-hoe **** (OHH!) I don't even trust 'em (OHH!) My conscience says no I wanna hit 'em wit a '9 (Haaaaaah!) These are some thoughts, re-occuring on my mind, now
  6. fat joe doesn't praise cocaine use, to say that is just as ignorant as when politicians criticise rap without even listening to the song, they pick apart one line and make it look like it's all negative when you could pick apart scenes from an arnold schreigner film, it's all art, it's a concept behind it
  7. kelly rowland "motivation"(i like that wbls plays the version without the lil' wayne rap on it)
  8. 50 ain't getting arrested every 5 minutes like DMX is, sure that's true, but musically DMX is a better performer than 50 Cent is and is one of the best to ever get on the mic, it's just like Tiger Woods is a womaniser but he's one of the greatest performers in the history of golf, 99% of golfers are probably better people than Tiger Woods but they can't touch him on the golf course...
  9. Chris brought this up in Fat Joe's mixtape post about how he uses the n word in his songs so I figure it'd be good to have a debate over it...Personally as a young black man I don't say the n word at all in my conversations or in the lyrics I write since I feel it's disrespectful to my ancestors but it's understandable that rappers try to take a negative word and turn it into something positive something with power as 2Pac did by using it as: Never Ignorant Getting Goals Accomplished I found an article here which shows a video of a white girl using it in her raps and other videos of other rappers opinions of the word: http://www.sohh.com/2011/08/whats_the_future_for_the_n-word_in_rap_m.html
  10. The truth is that you shouldn't criticise a rapper you don't like for doing something that a rapper you like does too, for instance if you're gonna criticise Fat Joe for using the n word in his music, you can't overlook the other 99% of rappers who say it as well which obviously would include some of your favorite rappers... Obviously some entertainers are more talented than others, that's why I think Ice Cube's better than 50 Cent but the reality is that neither are perfect people, I always liked 2Pac better than Biggie as well but I'm gonna front and act like I approve everything 2Pac said and did...
  11. Technically this ain't really the first mixtape for Fat Joe since he released a G-Unit diss mixtape a couple years ago called "Gay Unit" http://www.livemixtapes.com/mixtapes/2766/gayunit.html You could really say that a lot of artists are predictable at times, and like I said there's nobody that's perfect, at times people call Will a hypocrite for saying gangsta rap is wack and then doing songs with rappers like Snoop Dogg and Lil' Kim... I admit that people can call me hypocritical sometimes too for dissin' 50 Cent for putting out violent songs when Ice Cube's one of my favorite rappers but they both release albums with parental advisory stickers, people act like 2Pac was Jesus as well but he put out violent material too, at the end of the day it's entertainment, the parents should raise the kids not the rappers 'cause they ain't preachers... The rap game would be boring if everybody sounded like Jay-Z and Fat Joe just like it'd be if every rapper sounded like Will and LL, I like variety...
  12. JJFP "Higher Baby" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW1-N717Ttc
  13. I'll start off round 2, got somethin to get off my chest here: Like Nas I'm about to "Ether" any "takeover" This flow's all clear to break all jokers You'll be fleeing from fear once the game's over You'll be stumbling like a drunk queer while I remain sober Like James Brown "Papa Don't Take No Mess" Like LL Cool J I'm delivering 14 shots to your head You better be like Wu-Tang and "protect ya neck" Since I'm taking no prisoners in this contest Like Hammer I'm too legit to quit So I'm putting an end to your foolish s--- Sure I might be stuck in the 90s When these sucka mcs today don't excite me I'm bridging the gap at the turn of this century I'm set to bury all the wack cats in the cemetary When I justify every reality scene in my poetry So there's no questioning my punchlines It's like Jordan in the 4th quarter, crunchtime Or an NFL lineman when it's lunchtime There no way you could front this time
  14. Aight Turntable check this out Watch how I step in this bout It's like Jay-Z on "Reasonable Doubt" Will bringing out the "Lost and Found" Or LL Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out" The undisputed words bring on the rout Sure like Game I name drop But it's all for the love of hip hop Which runs nonstop like songs on an ipod Leaving peeps hungry for more like this was an ihop Tracking out the time like Flava Flav's clock Any diss against this will flop So it's time to settle this endless debate About who's real and who's fake Even if I never sell a millie like Lil' Wayne I'm gonna stay true to the game Big Ted's representing the essence always
  15. aight i'll start it off in a fresh thread
  16. dj premier salutes james brown mixtape: http://www.livemixtapes.com/player.php?album_id=1212
  17. whats up Jim, that's dope stuff bro, glad to see you enjoyed yourself!
  18. JJFP Feat. Nicole S. If You Can't Dance Slide
  19. a lot of times when rappers put out a lot of music at one time it sounds rushed, there is some exceptions like j. cole and b.o.b.,they both got jay-z and ti to co-sign them though, even though will put kel on "wild wild west" soundtrack and "uhhh" on "willenium" they didn't release those tracks as singles, maybe if they got released as singles then it'd be a different story today, there's still a chance though maybe if will gets involved with kel's mixtape or they release a single on will's album then he could get some more exposure that way
  20. well kel was releasing a new song every week on youtube a couple years ago but i notice they didn't get that many views/feedback, that probably bothered him, it's sad 'cause those songs were dope ish, a lot of good stuff's being slept on these days though, it took a legend like rakim 10 years to get his album released, hip hop's changed for the worse, i bet if jjfp was starting out now they'd have a hard time getting on too
  21. yeah both bad boys movies are classics, there definately needs to be another one and i wanna hear some JJFP tracks on the soundtrack
