bigted
LL Cool J Remembers Jam Master Jay, Wishes Run-DMC Would Do Reunion Shows The legendary MC takes a look back at his long history with Run-DMC on the anniversary of Jay's death. by Shaheem Reid NEW YORK — On October 30, 2002, LL Cool J had been partying, celebrating and shooting the video for his soon-to-be-hit single "Paradise." But suddenly, he had a terrible feeling in his gut that something had either gone wrong or was about to go wrong. Later that night, he found out that one of his closest friends, former mentor Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell, had been killed in their home borough of Queens. "When I got to the airport [later that day], that's when they told me he had died," LL said. "That's why at the end of my 'Paradise' video I put Big Momma [LL's grandmother] and JMJ up in the sky. That was my man, B." Tuesday (October 30) is the fifth anniversary of JMJ's untimely death, but the memories of their more-than-20-year friendship are vivid in Cool J's mind. He laughed heartily in New York's Chung King studio when thinking about him and Jay nearly coming to blows during a silly argument, and smiled even bigger when he talked of opening shows for the road-hardened Run-DMC as a youngster. "What people don't know is that Run-DMC basically taught me how to perform," he said. "I had to go on tour with them every night and just get brutalized. It wasn't fun. "Me and Run-DMC, we had a lot of history and Jay was definitely a friend," he continued. "I just remember hanging around with him so many times and going around the world, going to radio stations. We been through so much. ... It was a brotherly thing." Cool J said even though Jay is no longer here, he would love to see Run and DMC get back on the road and do shows, incorporating taped footage of Jay in their concerts. JumpinJack AJ
I'm with LL, i really wish Run + DMC would do shows every few years. Hip-Hop knows that Run-DMC is a trio and that JMJ has gone to a better place. They officially retired so their legendary legacy is set in stone. Bless the fans and bless Hip-Hop with reunion shows every once in awhile. It would be dope 2 see other pioneers like LL joining them for those shows. I'm sure something will happen at some point. It's still hard 2 believe Jay is gone and that it's been so long.

KevTastic
DMC just can't cut it live anymore. Its a shame but his voice just doesnt hit hard anymore. Even upto a few years back he could put on a decent show but now im really not sure.

JumpinJack AJ
I think since DMC's sound has changed a bit, with the right set up his shows would be fine. But in the style of an old Run-DMC show, i don't see how it would work very well. I got the 2001 Live Run-DMC show that recently got released and he had 2 rap over his own backtrack 2 fill in the gaps or push the lyrics further for when his voice got swallowed up. It was kinda painful 2 hear him that way since he once had the most powerful voice in Hip-Hop but i still love the album. I waz gonna pick up the DVD for it soon. It waz only $12 or something at Circuite City when i looked 4 it.
KevTastic
Yeh i saw Run DMC in 2001 and AJ is exactly right. It would have to be adapted. You see any recent show of DMC live and it just sounds like someone completley different. Don't get me wrong, i am easily as big fan of Run DMC as anyone here i own all their albums. I just think some things would have to be questioned when and if they did it.
