Jaden Smith set for 'Karate Kid' redo

He's only 12 years old -- but last year, Jaden Smith pulled in SEVEN FIGURES to star in "Karate Kid" ... TMZ has learned.

TMZ obtained Jaden's "KK" contract from June 2009 -- back when he was only 10 -- and according to the docs, his up-front fee was split into two installments ... one for $900,000 and one for $100,000.

But Jaden's back end deal was even more lucrative -- since the film topped $150 million in the domestic box office, the young actor locked down another $2 million bonus.

But $3 million is the bare minimum -- based on several additional in-contract perks AND the astronomical success of the film, Jaden likely pulled in even more.

He's still the poorest person in his family. :pound:

Columbia Pictures has tapped "The Incredible Hulk" scribe Zak Penn to rewrite its untitled sequel to 2010's surprise hit "The Karate Kid."
Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris were hired to write a sequel just weeks after director Harald Zwart's "Karate Kid" reboot took in $55.6 million domestically over its opening weekend. China-set pic went on to gross $359 million worldwide.
While plot details remain under wraps, original stars Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan are expected to reprise their roles, though no deals are currently in place.
Overbrook Entertainment principals Will Smith, James Lassiter, Ken Stovitz and Jada Pinkett Smith will produce with Jerry Weintraub, while Sony exec DeVon Franklin will oversee the project for the studio.
Penn knows his way around fight scenes, having written the superhero pics "Elektra," "X-Men: The Last Stand" and "The Incredible Hulk." He also co-created the Syfy series "Alphas" and wrote, directed and produced the improvisational poker comedy "The Grand." Scribe most recently worked on a "Dirty Dozen" remake, as well as an original take on the classic "Argonauts" tale for 20th Century Fox.
Penn is repped by CAA.

‘Karate Kid 2′ Locks Breck Eisner To Helm Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan
EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures has locked Breck Eisner to direct Karate Kid 2, the sequel that will bring back Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan. Harald Zwart directed the 2010 original, which grossed $56 million on its opening weekend and ended with $343 million worldwide. Eisner, repped by CAA and Management 360, most recently directed the gritty horror film The Crazies. It is an important film for the studio that has placed a premium in the care and feeding of franchises with global appeal. The original 1984 Karate Kid is a beloved film, but let’s face it, that crane deal at the end would never have worked, and this kid is way more believable as a martial artist.

Breck Eisner Out For ‘Karate Kid 2′ As Sony, Overbrook Hire New Scripting Duo
Sony and Will Smith‘s Overbrook Entertainment have hired screenwriting team Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer to write Karate Kid 2, which now has an empty director’s chair as Breck Eisner has exited due to conflicting schedules. The scribes follow Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris and Zak Penn, who previously had been tapped to write the sequel. Friedman and Palmer’s action comedy script Family Getaway made the 2010 Black List, and the pair was subsequently hired to script the Bodyguard remake for Warner Bros-based Lin Pictures. They earned more press in 2012 when they sold their Die Hard-esque pitch Speeding Bullet to Universal in a mid-six-figure deal. Sony’s Karate Kid sequel will return stars Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith for more martial arts action in the studio’s blockbuster franchise reboot. Harald Zwart directed the 2010 Karate Kid, which scored $343 million worldwide with a contemporary China-set take on the crane-kicking 1980s original.
