bigted
The same people who say that Hammer's a weak lyricist are the same people who say Fresh Prince is a weak lyricist, they judge them off the singles like "U Can't Touch This" and "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" but if they heard the albums they wouldn't say that, he put out some dope ones, especially "The Funky Headhunter" which is like JJFP's "Code Red", an underrated classic!! I've been doing a search over the internet for some Hammer lyrics since he's made some dope hip-hop quotables that you could put up against anybody's favorite rapper, I found some but a lot they don't have so I went digging through my albums to find where he posts some in his album inserts, this is also something these so called mcs don't do these days since they know their music is meaningless since they just trying to sell records, they ignore the fans, I'm also gonna post what he said in some of his album credits, it's some real enlightning stuff, if Bill Clinton thinks Lil' Wayne is smart imagine what he'd think if he read this, Hammer for '16 president, lol, but it's true though if you think about it, he's a real head and on every message board I go on that disses him from now on I'm gonna copy and paste this post I made here since I'm saving it on my computer: "step to the rhythm of a sho-nuff winner (winner) I been here before (yo!) I ain't no beginner (word) but I been new tried and true survival of the fittest yo!.. it brought me through my crew (talk) we're ready to strike trained for the mission so believe the hype and sweat it (sweat it) cause you're gonna regret it the day that you dissed us you'll wish you never met us you remind me of a real short story one hit record and you start to bore me get ready cause this is it your crew is through and we too legit to quit...sang!.."-Too Legit To Quit"-the lyrics and the energy of this track is undeniable, the video's dope as hell too with the late great legends JB and MJ making appearances, no rapper could say that he had both of them in one video "Oaktown(Oaktown) And Your Town Are One The Same The Site Different But Is Still The Same Pain(Pain) You Hurt And I Hurt Where Can I Find Work Keepin A Brother Down And His Face In The Dirt(In The Dirt) My Mind is Tired And My Kids Are Sick I Gotta Make A Move And I Better Do It Quick(Do It Quick) Thinking About The Store I Might Hit It Tonight And I Pray To God That I Don't Take Lives(Take Lives) No I Don't Want To Hurt Anyone But I'm Loving My Daughter And I Love My Son(I Love My Son) The Pain Is Deep And When They Sleep I Cry Because I Know They Need Me And I Just Might Die(Die) If I Could I'd Switch Today Save My Kids And Take Me Away(Save My Kids) I Should Have Done Better With My Life Not Only Do I Suffer But My Kids Pay The Price When We're Living In A World Like This(When You're Living!) When We're Living In A World Like This(In A World Like This!) When We're Living In A World Like This(When You're Living!) When We're Living In A World Like This(In A World Like This!)"-"Living In A World Like This", if you can't relate to these lyrics then you ain't human, we all go through things in life, he tells it like we all feel from time to time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzhheAmx3AU "Sometimes you gotta do thangs To protect what's ours so what's ours remains Sometimes we gotta shed blood But the blood is the blood of them demonic thugs Sometimes we gotta lose life But the life is right if we die in the light The life is right if we die to unite The life is right if we die for what's right No greater love have a man than a man Who would stand and die for his friends Got bless, this a test We about to seperate the spirit from the flesh We ain't gone forget how you came at us It's deep in our hearts and we ah never let up U-S-A America respect us, U-S-A America that's us"- "No Stoppin' Us"(USA), this is probably the funkiest patriotic song besides James Brown's "Living In America", brought some inspiring energy after the 9/11 trajedy, keepin' it gangsta for the USA, this was actually the time in high school when I started getting into MC Hammer more seriously, I heard some of his songs as a little boy since his "Please Hammer.." album was the big hit back when I was 5 but when I wanted to learn more about hip hop and I started rapping myself I remember seeing this video on VH1(the MC Hammer Story movie was shown on there too, I gained respect by seeing that too) and I decided to check some of his albums, respect for MC Hammer started growing for me "Five Years Of The Hippin' And Hoppin' '87 Is When The Hammer Started Poppin'(Poppin) Got Strong And Now I'm Stronger The Ladies Love A Man Who Could Last Longer(Longer) Feels Good That I'm Holding My Own Ducking The Sticks And Dodging The Stones(They Throw) Dis Me But Never Dismiss Me Cause The Hammer Is Strong So I'm Rollin' On This Is The Way We Roll... We Roll...This Is The Way We Roll... Rollin...Rollin.. Rollin...I'm Rollin' On This Is We The We Roll...We Roll...This Is The Is The Way We Roll... Rollin'(Rollin.Rollin.All Through Oaktown(I'm Rollin' On!)"-"This Is The Way We Roll"-he's more than the one-hit "You Can't Touch This" wonder since he's been in the game since '87 like he points out here in this verse, longer than most of these Jay-Z fans been living, Hammer keeps rollin' on, as you see by the video Hammer was rollin' with the NBA ballers way before Jigga had a record deal while everyone makes a big deal about Jigga with the Nets, they need to check their facts "My Mind Is Poisoned From The Pictures That I See(On TV) All The Hookers Or The Killers Always Seem To Look Like Me (Black) A Silly Plan Or A Super Stupid Plot(Always Gotta Hustle) It's Always Me That The Rock Seems To Got(Hooked) You Let 'Em Tell It And I'm Already Through(He Won't Be Nothing) I Just Can't Take It, What Am I Supposed To Do?(What Am I Supposed To Do?) And All My Hero's Rarely Ever Seen(Only In Trouble) You Killed Off One Just For Having A Dream(Long Live Martin) Everytime we get it together Uncle Tom's Breaks Us On Up We're Just Like Crabs In A Basket Won't Nobody Let Nobody Up(Why Do We Pull Each Other Down?) Can't Find A Job..With Decent Pay(Nowhere) I Hate The Neighborhood Where I Stay(Rats, Roaches, and Rock Stars) I'd Call On God But I Don't Pray(No I Don't) I Don't Think I'll Make It Anyway(I Don't Look Good) My Mind Is Gone! Hang On Brothers Hang On!(You Gotta Hang On! Oh Yeah!) Hang On....Brothers Hang On!(Don't Let Go...Don't Let Go...)"-"Brothers Hang On"-Hammer breaks down the black stereotypes of reality just like Will did on "I Wish I Mad That", sure we got a black president now but the reality's still there for the way brothers and sisters are treated, it's like Nas said on Jadakiss "Why" Remix, "Why do they hate for us wearing our caps backwards? Why are there no Jesus roles for black actors?", arguably this is my favorite MC Hammer song of all time "Children don't be fooled(fooled) And learn about the way that man once ruled This country where we live And read about the '60s About what they did So that we won't forget And love one another and give respect When I see a man who's old(a man's who old) A woman's who's grey it touches my soul 'Cause I know they paved the way So we could be here and live this way There was a time not long ago When in front of the bus to the back I had to go It appears that things have changed Many things are different but it's still the same game(game, game) Will you let them be?(Help the children) Will you let the children live to see?(Help 'em) A generation's striving(Help the children) (Bombs and crack)Oh how we're dying Dance(Will you let 'em be)"-"Help The Children", Hammer drops some positive vibes over the Marvin Gaye sample, what more could you ask for when you want the realness? "Now you're in the music biz Here's a little pop quiz You take but do you give? Back while you're talking about me What are you doing for our communities? Little kids are looking up to you They want to grow up be like ya So talk with 'em in your spare time 'Cause your skin's black for a lifetime"-"Black Is Black"-Hammer spit some real lyrics over a funky JB track it don't get no realer than that, those lines he put on there are directed to all the haters and critics who talk about him but don't give back, Jigga take notes brother, kids look up to you stop hating on brothers like Hammer and give back, unfortunately this ain't on youtube but it's on the "Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em" album, track #11 "Now check it out, how could it be? 7 years out and fools still trying to diss me They labeled me the bad guy Straight flipped on the Hammer and now I ask why I came out dancing, getting it hyped Giving the people what they liked Did a lil' touring people rocking with me And when all started to diss I outsold Run-Dmc I used to say I never go out White people bought my records, black people said I sold out I got a catchy slogan put it on a Rick James' loop And sold 20 million records, truth So I owe no apologies, no regrets No my pride's not swollen G You're gonna make me start cussin' God damn it, I just wanted you to clap yo' hands" "Clap Yo Hands", this lyricism on this song is amazing, he broke down his career in one verse, he works hard but keeps it real at the same time, couldn't find the link for youtube but it's on "The Funky Headhunter" album, track #8 "Hammer, Hammer's rollin' wit a rhythm That sold many mill's, plus skills is what I give 'em I got the dance steps to pump in ya boom box The tracks are nothing less than phat now Feel the vibe of the vibe while I'm doing my thing I tell them folks that it's on Hammer's phat, right and exact You might whet that but respect that So tell who's got the props(I got the props) So tell me who's got the loot(Hammer got lots) Crazy doe luciano Cool fellow mellow with the piano(woah!) Yeah feel the funk that I bring The oaktown swing Everything I drop proper Now the song that I drop Hit the top 'cause it's top It's like that and it don't stop" "Don't Stop", this reminds me a lot of JJFP's "I'm Lookin' For The One", these songs could get the party going, this is why I think Teddy Riley is the greatest producer as well "Ya tryed to play me soft, Now ya set it off If ya got something on ya chest, Let it off Cause we can get it on, Don't let the dance steps fool ya Cause if I catch ya slippin, I'ma have to do ya, do ya One to the chin, Another to the jaw I know ya just bustas purpetrating like ya raw Mash it, Trash it, Serch couldn't pass it The trick's last album didn't even go plastic Some claiming towns that they ain't even from Some claiming they hard, But never shot a gun, Bustas! [b-Down] Yeah, You runners, Beware of hammer [MC Hammer] The funky headhunter! Chorus 4x [bridge 4x] Bust 'em in the back, Bust em, Bust em, Bust 'em in the back Bust 'em in the back, Bust em, Bust em, Bust 'em in the back And watch those suckas play dead!"-"The Funky Headhunter", this shows you that Hammer's a good battle rapper, these lines and flow hit ya hard, out of all the rappers that battled Hammer over the years only the GOAT LL Cool J could match his energy, this song hits ya hard like "Better Run Run" to Jay-Z, once again hopefully somebody posts this song on youtube one day so peeps could check it, it's on "The Funky Headhunter" CD, track #14 "Come listen to my truest thoughts My truest feelings All my folks doing years behind all these killings How many bodies do we witness Before we see It's hard to live this life without God So we must ask forgiveness Ask mama why I got this urge to die Witness the tears fall through her eyes Before she could reply For we were born without a silver spoon My broken TV show cartoons in my living room(Hey!) One day I hope to make it A player in this game Mama don't cry As long as we try Maybe things change Perhaps it's just a fantasy A life without welfare and help our own family Perhaps it's me that caused it The fighting and the hurt in my room crying 'cause I didn't wanna be a burden Watching my mama open up her arms to hug And I ain't worried about a damn thing 'cause she still loves me" MC Hammer "Unconditional Love"(Unreleased), 2Pac and Hammer wrote this song together since they were homies, haters front on that though, some are foolish to hate on this but Hammer's flow is deep on here, this reminds me a lot of Will Smith's "The Rain", he really did it well on Hip Hop Honors on VH1 back in 2004, if you front on that performance you got no soul, if Pac were alive more of the real rappers would get recognition since he wouldn't go for wack rappers ruining his songs like they did, I wonder if Hammer and Pac did more work together that never came out "I be settin' it off I've been waiting on this, now let me let off I'm hot, I'm on fire I be breaking off heat, making you a liar Now what? I got it on lock Keeping it hot like I'm holding on to the pot You could try me all you want But I'm putting one on ya West coast, that's the style I be sellin' records in a big ol' pile Dance floor, in hot demand I'm in control of everything I'mma make you a fan Do you look like you wanna get served? Well step to the plate, you're gonna get served Oaktown, the heart of the bay I'mma set if off on the yay Full Blast I'm the mack Thought you had it for a minute Well I'm getting ya back Full Blast Time To Smack Thought You Had It For a Minute But We Attack" MC Hammer 'Full Blast', if enough of Eminem's fanbase was smart enough to comprehend the power of Hammer's battle skills then hip hop would be in a better position right now, the video reminds me a bit of "Turn This Mutha Out", he takes performance to another level

VIsqo
HAHAHA Turntable wont be able to doubt the Hammer anymore with all this! Mc Hammer is a good rapper, he is underrated because the hits that made him more famous are not his finest works, just like Will Smith solo career.. JumpinJack AJ
MC Hammer will always be one of my favz. So many people want 2 put him in a box as a rapper who made popular dance rap songs who burned hot then went broke. They ignore that he actually came from rags to riches, that he actually lived the street life that many rappers claim to have lived but didn't. Sure, he can rock a party and do a dance track better than most but he's a very layered artist. You posted some of his deeper tracks in this post. He's touched on the state of the world, the streets, racism, faith, etc. The sad thing about him loosing his money because he was hiring his entire block to keep them off the streets, away from violence and drugs. That man sacrificed himself for others and people clown him for it. Not many emcees have half the heart that Hammer has. He changed Hip-Hop more than most emcees/rappers ever hope to. He got called out for being a sell out for things that EVERY popular rapper does now. Hammer just paved the way for it. Shoot, MC Hammer even made a song produced by Lil' Jon bearable!! That's no easy feat! After all the years that have passed, he is still going strong and when he performs the industry cheers him on with genuine excitement. Keep on, Hammer!! JumpinJack AJ
I couldn't find the music video. This is one of his best!
JumpinJack AJ
Unreleased heat...MC Hammer w/ 2Pac and Big Daddy Kane 2Pac was hands on with Hammer's Deathrow album Too Tight. 2Pac wrote "Unconditional Love" for Hammer thinking it was his type of song. There's a YouTube video somewhere of 2Pac in the studio during the mixing or recording of the title track of Too Tight.

bigted
I posted "Bring Our Brothers Home" in the Jay-Z/MC Hammer thread and mentioned how MC Hammer's good at addressing current event issues, it shows you he could have a career in politics since he has the intelligence but there's too much dishonestly in politics that I don't see him doing that.... FP "Switch" remix was produced by Lil' Jon as well and yeah Big Daddy Kane was gonna sign to Death Row before Pac passed on... bigted
Hammer spitting realness on a song with gangsta rap legends: People forget that Hammer was dancing in NWA's "Express Yourself" video as well, if Eminem was really such a big NWA fan that he claimed he was then he'd know that: Hammer's Verse: Sittin' on the ave, about quarter to nine All the homies going blind at the eightball line And on this tip they started running at the lip Run at the beats, took a lil' trip Hit the block at about 12 and the 10 They went down and the nines went click People started yelling, bodies started bailing Bullets started flying send us to hell and It's all gotta stop, we don't need all the violence Peace in the 'hood and a moment of silence We got together not for ego or fame We got involved 'cause we're all in the same gang another personal favorite "Crime Story" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCtBGK7UT6g Edited November 9, 2010 by bigted
JumpinJack AJ
I have the West Coast Rap All-Stars album with that posse cut!! People don't realize that in the late 80's the west was doing some interesting things and even tho' MC Hammer was getting love on the charts, those emcees (some who later turned their back on him) supported him. He was an underground artist for awhile before he blew up.
