MaxFly
The reviews and reception overseas has been ridiculously and suspiciously much more positive than that in the US... I wonder why that is... lol
KevTastic
Overseas where? I'm still reading a lot of negative reviews throughout European Press.

Members Simon Lerkot Berglind
Some quotes translated with my faulty but functional english: Svenska Dagbladet 3/5: "The result, from Shyamalans leading the Smith family and to the almost computer game-like concept, has been mocked and criticised in USA. The F word has been mentioned. Fiasco, that is. And it's not a classic. But it must be admitted that this simple little story both plot wise and visually creates a special atmosphere. I liked it a little and don't want to make fun of it. If you can take it for what it is and nothing more, it's actually pretty exciting." Göteborgsposten 0/5 "Will Smith's grave serious acting looks very silly in this kind of movie. On Smith Jr you could say that he's doing as good as he can fighting a hungry CGI monster." Aftonbladet 2/5 Dagens Nyheter 2/5 Sydsvenskan 1/5 "Just like in the earlier Smith production, Karate Kid (2010), the son Jaden is going to learn how to be a real man. This time through a terrain run on the in the future enviromentally destroyed earth that still somehow looks like a overgrown californian Redwood jungle, where giant eagles, killer monkeys and the biotech invented monster Ursa, a mini version of the sea monster in Cloverfield, all want blood. Unfortunately not even the unintentional comedy gets entertaining because everyone involved, even the monsters, seem to suffer from deep depression. They probably read the script." Ale
M. Night Shyamalan’s Will Smith and Jaden Smith spectacle took $16.3 million (100 million yuan) in the week from July 15 to 21, according to statistics released on Monday on the microblog of the state-backed China Film News magazine. The film has now taken $30.4 million (187 million yuan) since it opened on July 12. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/china-box-office-earth-retains-590131 Edited July 22, 2013 by Ale
Ale
This is another periodic look at the box office fortunes of somewhat older movies and/or smaller movies and how they have held up over the weeks in the domestic and international box office. As the headline implies, Will Smith‘s alleged mega-flop After Earth isn’t quite the mega-flop it was presumed to be two months ago. With its international release in full-swing, the M. Night Shyamalan sci-fi adventure has now earned $175 million overseas. Coupled with its genuinely terrible $59 million in domestic grosses (that’s less than Seven Pounds and the original Bad Boys and just $1 million above Ali), the film has earned $235 million worldwide, with a possible final gross of over $250 million. Now that’s no smash hit, but the key is that it only cost $130 million to produce, meaning it doesn’t belong anywhere near the $220-$250 million catastrophes like John Carter, Battleship, or Green Lantern. For what it’s worth, had it been in 3D, we’d be looking at a $300 million+ global total.
