*mimi*
The fact is most people think all rappers are gangsta rap. That includes Jay-Z, Pac, Biggie. Most people think Pac was the biggest gangsta rapper. Does Will still listen to Pac? Yes. He says he's a fan. Pac said himself that he wasn't a gangsta rapper. But most ppl saw him as that. Most people see 50 and G-Unit as gangsta rappers, and they do try to act like it, but they do show different sides of themselves in their music. With 50 he doesn't always talk about guns, girls, money. Although those may be the predominant themes of his music, Will has said that if u show another side of yourself like Jay-Z, he doesn't have a problem. Now if u take the Cash Money Millionaires whose song after song is all about money cars and girls, then Will wouldn't respect u one bit. But he did say it with his own mouth. Maybe ya'll don't know it cuz u live overseas and the channel I saw his interview was on BET. The thing is though, ppl here on this forum, and I hate to attack some of u guys again, seem to really believe that Will Smith likes what you like, listens only to what u listen to, and hate what u hate. U seem to think he only respects old school rap and nothing else. I'm not saying he was ever a fan of gangsta rap, but who is he working with now that was the king of gangsta rap back in the days?? Snoop Dogg. Who did he work with in the studio who is considered gangsta rap? Petey Pablo. Do u honestly think that Will hates gangsta rap so much, just cuz ya'll detest it? He even said gangsta rap is the purest story. More than any movie could tell. So take this please. Will HIMSELF has said he likes Jay-z, Pac, Biggie, Nas, Ludacris, and 50 cent. So take it or leave it, but don't just assume Will is supposed to represent the people only you like.
*mimi*
Well if Will likes 50 Cent and The Game, he shouldn't ever diss gangsta rap then. :ditto: my last note was specifically towards ppl like you, but if u honestly think that Game and 50 are all about gangsta rap, u haven't given their albums a fair listen. Who are you a fan of in "mainstream music" BTW? Just wondering cuz I have some questions for u.
JumpinJack AJ
It's there really any 'gangsta rap' anymore?? I don't think so. 50 Cent + G-Unit, The Game, that stuff isn't gangsta rap. It's just common, meaningless rap music with no Hip-Hop or feeling 2 it. It's not 'gangsta' at all. N.W.A. waz 'gangsta.'
Admin Hero1 Posted February 28, 2005 Admin Report Share Posted February 28, 2005 "That brother with the platinum plaque With the strength to stand and say gangsta rap was wack" Will - who am i "Nine tre everybody want to be a gangsta Pup pup pup pup but no more thanks to me" - im looking for the one yeah wills always said hes liked artists like snoop, dre, 2pac etc what hes talking about is rappers who have nothing intelligent to say/only have misogynistic, violent lyrics..dont show all sides to them..different experiences etc etc so i'd agree with the majority of what you say mimi.. i think people need to be more open..their is room for all kinds of hip hop gangsta pop/gritty/underground/crunk whateva.. i'd just say that at the moment really only 1 style dominates the charts radio and sales..so its good will is coming back out..cause he offers a real alternative as jazzy jeff says i aint mad at the 10 records you do play im mad at the records you dont play..or sumthin like that :sonny:
*mimi*
^^^ah thanks. I'm glad u understand what I'm tryin to say. BTW, i'm not attacking everyone, just some ppl who see "gangsta rap" as some evil form of rap. Some aren't necessary and all about style, but some actually have stories to tell. bigted
:werd: To AJ there, I would say that 50 Cent and The Game ain't true gangsta rappers, the true gangsta rap is dead, I love ol' school gangsta rap, they had a powerful message in their songs, when BDP and Public Enemy came out they were called gangsta rappers too, 2Pac, Ice-T, NWA, Warren G, and Snoop Dogg are my favorite gangsta rappers. As far as mainstream mcs are concerned, the only ones that I like a lot are FP, LL Cool J, Nas, and my opinion on Ludacris is getting better now 'cause I see that he's putting work in. Snoop Dogg still is the king of gangsta rap, 50 Cent and The Game can't touch him. I used to love Dr. Dre but once he dropped Rakim and produces only The Game, GUnit, and D12, my respect for him has gone down quite a bit, I still think that he's a legend in hip-hop though and I appreciate the work he put in the game. freshstecki
Well, fact is that Will was always dissin gangsta rap and I can tell u that I'm with dat! Now he's askin 4 a beat from a so called "gangsta rapper".. well, his lyrics turned out well, I really like his lyrics.. much better than the game.. two different levels, no doubt. But how can he ask 4 a beat from da game, or however this guy is called, when he has something against this guys. I mean.. he could also ask 4 a nice DJ Premier Beat.. would also fit perfect. Than, Snoop doggy dogg is also himelf calling a gangsta.. why is he down with dat guy? I always like da Fresh Prince 4 being himself, but dis has nothing to do with it!! What is also strange.. back in da days gangsta rap wasn't so bad.. Ice T, Ice cube, smooth dr. dre beatz from da early nineties.. warren g.. all dis guys where true musicians, u can have something against their lyrics, but they had something like a message! I think it was ok 2 have something against their "hard way" of critizism, but 2 be down with snoop dogg nowadays.. one of da main reasons, why Hip Hop is not seen as a peaceful culture, but as a way of life who has 2 do with porn industry.. well, I don't think dat this make sense!!! In 93 this lines in "lookin 4 the one" where exactly 4 people like snoop dogg.. now big will is makin money with him! Da Fresh Prince is from da first generation after the old school.. now he's laughin about dis time, he's laughin about Schooly D or Just Ice as like "well, back in da days.. when we were young.. how where this guys called.. schooly d.." comon Fresh Prince, u are exactly from da same time! I don't know, but I have the impression dat the people at this forum are always turnin it that way, that their big idol "Will Smith" is doin the right thing and that all his stuff is good.. even everybody in here, except AJ and one or two others. Most of u are listenin 2 Will Smith and 1 or 2 other artists and think they know everything about Hip Hop. I don't know everything about it myself, but sure is that it is more important 2 make good music/to tell the trues and not as important 2 sell 1 million albums.. so there is no reason 2 talk about it all the time.. peace freshstecki Edited February 28, 2005 by freshstecki
Members diehardwill
i think will should have strictly worked with hip hop greats for this album and f**k mainstream music. i don't like the likes of snoop and luda on his album. he would have gotten more props if the likes of eric sermon, nas, rakim, slick rick, ll cool j, doug e fresh etc were on. hip hop ain't about selling records and having no.1 hits. real hip hop is truth that's why the likes of nas, rakim, krs 1 don't push records like the commercial HIP-POPpers, the likes of Jay z, nelly, 50, the game etc. but they are waht is still keeping hip hop alive. bigted
If the song's dope I don't care who's on it and I think that "Party Starter" is dope hip-hop, FP's still himself that's why I support him, doing a song with Ludacris might make Ludacris a better artist now, I think we should reach out to these cats in this game, they just need some direction about how to be creative, I don't think dissin' these wack artists forever is gonna help 'cause being mad at each other won't solve anything. :ditto: I don't think FP ever dissed Snoop Dogg, he dissed cats that were biting Snoop's style at the time, Snoop is original. btw, Nas ain't a gangsta rapper.
