Lerkot
Well as you might know until a couple of weeks I only listened to JJFP. Well, I started trying a lot of other artists but I didnt like ANYTHING of what I heard, until I found some tracks from Slick Rick. This guy is not as good as FP but hell yeah he makes really good music anyway. The voice is just extremely unique and the way he uses some kind of more classic singing is really cool, smooth! Slick himself seems to be a pretty cool guy if you check out what he has to say in interviews and such, and of course he is easily recognized with his very unique style and not to forget his look... Anyway, my favorite Slick Rick from the tracks ive heard until now is Hey Young World but most of the stuff i've heard is really dope. What do ya think about Slick? DevilsJim89
I have't really listened to much from him except for "So Fresh" and "Teenage Love" which I think was his biggest hit. I didn't like his voice when I first heard "So Fresh" but I've grown to like it.
WesSyde
i'm not sure how much i'd like him. i love old school hip-hop no doubt, but i like edgy rap! for example, my teacher told me about De La Soul so i looked them up on allmusic.com and it said their best album was 3 Feet High and Rising. so i listened 2 it and it just is too soft and has too much soul for me! i love they're new album and some of their stuff from the '90's, but a lot of the stuff from the '80's is just too soft 4 me. i prefer the roughness of JJFP's Code Red and Naughty By Nature than that of say A Tribe Called Quest, who i'm tryin 2 get in2. i don't think i'd be 2 fond of Slick cuz his accent and voice is really annoyin on So Fresh and i can barely hear what he's sayin! The Ruler's back and Teenage love are my favorite tracks from him
Jonny 5
I've been waiting to try and get a cheap copy of one of his albums for a while now. I think someone recommended him to me kind of like "If you like JJFP, then you might like Slick Rick". I'll get one sooner or later, glad you like him Lerkot, it's definitely good to listen to more than just one artist/group because then you appreciate their music more when you go back to it :thumb:
bigted
Slick Rick is the ruler of hip-hop without a doubt, he's the most sampled rapper, and his storytellin' is incredible, "Great Adventures Of Slick Rick" is one of the best albums ever made "Teenage Love" "Hey Young World" and "The Ruler's Back" are my favorite tracks on there, that's the type of album you could make a movie too, I'd suggest to you reborn2reign to get "The Art Of Storytellin'" for some new school Slick Rick flava. bigted
Slick Rick's alive and doing well still, hopefully he comes out with a new album soon, but I do find it distubing and insulting that dead rappers get more props than rappers alive, anyways on a lighter note, I love this song "Me & Nas Bring It To Your Hardest" on "The Art Of Storytellin'", that album was slept on, it should've gone at least platinum: Finally, a change from these fake rap artists [Rick] Me and Nas bring it to your hardest Finally, real niggaz that are Billboard charters [Rick] Me and Nas bring it to your hardest [slick Rick] Skills provide the shows, also fright the foes And when I step into a room, pimps hide they hoes "Is that really him?"
