mfuqua23
I don't know how or why it happened. Apparently, I went somewhere I wasn't suppose to. Now in my taskbar, I have a red circle with an X in it. I tried clicking on it and nothing happens. How do I get rid of this infection? Please help.
Schnazz
Are you sure you have a virus? If so, and you don't have a virus scanner, you can get a free one here: http://www.avast.com/eng/down_home.html Have you tried to move your mouse over it? Do you get a pop-up hint telling you what it is? Also, have you tried to reboot your computer? If you have Windows XP, it may be telling you that your firewall is currently disabled. You can check that from going to your Control Panel (there should be a link in your start menu) and clicking on the Windows Firewall icon. Jonny 5
If the worst comes to the worst and you're running Win XP, use the 'System-Restore' feature, I've used it successfully 2 or 3 times when stuff like this has happened. Guest Guest
I put my mouse over that X and it said "Your computer is infected." I kept clicking it and this Sheriff thingy came up and scanned. But I couldn't get rid of it or whatever because I have to pay for it. *I put my mouse over the X and it went away* after I ctrl+alt+delete and end tasked winstall. (which I had never seen before) btw, I have Windows 98.
mfuqua23
Thanks Schnazz. Hopefully, this will help me find the source of the problem between tonight and tomorrow.
