MaxFly
http://www.shoutwire.com/viewstory/15701/T...irmative_Action The Double Standard of Affirmative Action While watching TV today, because sleep simply would not come, a commercial showing Tyra Banks’ talk show was on. It portrayed a woman who put on a goatee and traditional male clothes to look like a man. She then went into the men’s restroom and then the commercial showed Tyra and the girl laughing about it. There were other men in the restroom and the “shim” stood at a urinal next to one. What she was doing is a mystery that probably should not be known. The question one must ask them self is: What would have happened if that was a man going into the woman’s restroom? The answer is simple. Someone would have been offended. The police would have gotten involved. He would most likely face charges as a sex offender. That is a double standard and it is not right. Sam Fulwood is a liberal Black columnist in Cleveland, Ohio. He wrote an article stating that Colin Powell, the former Secretary of State, "…flamed out after his ego no longer allowed him to be an unquestioning spearchucker in Mr. Bush's war." (What Fulwood did not know was that Powell said before taking office for Bush’s first term of office that he would only stay for one term.) According to Fulwood it is not racist for him to say “spearchucker”. If a White columnist claimed any Black man to be a spearchucker he would be flamed for being a racist until the day he died. The ACLU would most likely file a class action suit against this “hate crime”. Again, that is a double standard and is not right. A double standard is when a group is placed under stricter rules than another. So why do we allow that to happen in America? Aren’t we all equal under the eyes of the law? Could it not be construed that if you can say something or do something that someone else cannot, just because of race or gender, as a hate crime against that person that could not do said activity? It is ideas like these that have allowed Affirmative Action to become a standard. Affirmative Action is the most racist law currently on the books. It says a woman can get hired over a man just because you would be a sexist if you hired all men. If that woman was not as qualified as the man couldn’t that be considered sexist? She was hired just because she is a woman. The same happens for minorities. He is hired because he is Black, Asian, or Latino. This law was passed to make sure everyone was hired fairly. I have no problem with that but why can’t you have it the best qualified for the job gets hired. Wouldn’t that be fair? How can people advocate for equal rights when women don’t sign up for the draft and minorities are hired over the better qualified?

sonic1988
non issue :smart: there should be a hyphen there, Tim :smart: But Afirmative Action is a problem. Things like college financial aid should be based in income, not race. Edited June 11, 2006 by sonic1988
