Ale
WILL SMITH has turned down the lead role in moviemaker CAMERON CROWE's new MARVIN GAYE biopic. The actor spent months in negotiations to portray the legendary soul man, and now Crowe, who has been trying to get the project off the ground for four years, is without a leading man again. But the Almost Famous director isn't rushing to find his Gaye - he's determined to hire the right man for the role. Crowe tells Daily Variety, "It’s all about getting the contact high in a movie theatre that you can get from music. A record can change your life. Somebody poured their life into that little piece of music. To me that’s a hero." http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/story/you-heard-it-on-the-grapevine---smith-says-no-to-crowes-gaye-biopic_1137789
JumpinJack AJ
I don't think FP was right for that role. I think someone who is unknown should have that part. I remember when someone suggested he play Sam Cooke and I thought that MIGHT work. Since FP typically takes roles that avoid too much drama, I don't know how it would work to see him play out his crazy demise.
Radewart
I don't know about this. On one hand, I want Will to work with qualtiy directors and this would be a prestigious project, but Will's already played Ali and I can't really see him in this film. Also, can Will actually sing, not rap?

Admin Hero1 Posted April 6, 2010 Admin Report Share Posted April 6, 2010 I'm glad he didn't do this. I just couldn't believe Will being Marvin Gaye..
JumpinJack AJ
Exactly, that's why I think an unknown should get the part if the movie is good enough to be made. It's very hard 2 find someone who looks and can sing like a musical legend but I think it's annoying when they do movies on legendary artists and the classic recordings don't match the voice of the actor.
